She was born March 4, 1918, in Waterboro, NY, daughter of Ambrose and Emma Siter Beha. She attended West Leyden schools and later graduated from the Utica State Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She married Agatino (Scotty) Cravotta in 1949 in Brooklyn,NY.He died in l972. She was employed as an R.N. in hospitals in the New York City-area and came back to this area in 1965. She was a member of St Anne's Church, the Ladies of St. Anne's and sang in its Senior Choir. She was also member of the Heenan Spiritual Group for the Handicapped and was a volunteer Red Cross worker. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ann M. and Richard B. Hineline, Whitesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel J. and Judith Cravotta, Glens Falls, NY; five grandildren; three sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Cecelia) Roldon, Vista, NJ, Mrs. Walter (Dorothy) Dunn, Oneida, NY and Mrs. David (Bertha) Rowley, Waterville; three brothers, John Beha, Ontario, NY, Donald A. Beha, Utica and Joseph Beha, Waterville. Services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wells & Lloyd Funeral Home, 100 Main St., and at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. 26902 | Utica NY Daily Press - 2/7/1957 CONSTABLEVILLE - Mrs. Marion Edith Schwenk, 76. widow of Henry W. Schwenk, died Feb. 6, 1957, at the Lewis County Hospital, Lowville. She had been in ill health since last June and seriously ill since September. She was born April 18, 1881 in Town of West Turia, daugh- ter of Thomas and Elizabeth Davis Wynn. She was educated at the Constableville Union Free School. She was married to Henry W. Schwenk on Jan. 11, 1905, in this village. He died April 21, 1921. The couple lived at the Schwenk Brothers Hotel (now the Hotel Parquet) here, which they operated until 1821. She was a life resident of the Constableville vicinity and was a member of St. Paul's Episco- pal Church, its Women's Aux- iliary, and St. Agnes Guild. She was a long-time member of the local Home Demonstration Unit. Mrs. Schwenk served as treasurer of the Constableville Central School for the past 36 years. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Henry Taylor of Constable- ville, Mrs. Sidney Johnson of Sauquoit, Mrs. Leo Northam of Constanbleville; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, mrs. Dorothy Ainsworth of Con- stableville; two sisters-in-law. For 22 years he had operated a restaurant in UUca, retiring many years ago. On Oct. 5. 1898 he married Ida C. Vaeth in St. Marys Church. Mr. Buckley was a member of St Agnes' Church and Holy Name Society He leaves his wife, four sons, John C.,, Eugene M., W. Gerald and Timothy J. Buckley, all of Utica; two daughters, Miss Mary E. 26905 | Utica NY Daily Press - 3/21/1970 Rocco Basi, 59, formerly of 1216 Leeds St., the man who helped make Utica's traffic °'stop and go," died March 18 in. Clearwater Hospital, Clearwater. Fla. He moved to 815 Embassy Park, Clearwater, two months ago. Mr. Basi was superintendent of traffic signal maintenance for Utica's police and fire departments, retiring in 1968. He joined the Utica police force in 1939 and served in prowl cars and "on the beat" before joining~the late~~Capt. Samuel Martucci in establishing the Traffic Division. Together, ,they took over the installation and maintenance of Utica's traffic control equipment. As the division grew, Mr. Basi's responsibilities encompassed the supervision of linesmen and maintenance of miles of overhead and underground wires and cables. His advice in solving traffic problems was sought by community leaders and Traffic Inspector Paul Carl. Interested in reducing accidents, he changed traffic light cycles ,when needed, thus facilitating traffic flow. A native Utican, Mr. Basi was the son of the late Bartholomew Basi and Angeline Pecorello Basi. He received his education in Utica and Italy, and at one time was employed by the Hotel Uti- ca. Mr. Basi was married to Doro- thy Marie Abiusi in Utica. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of the Utica Po- lice Department, and John E. Creedon Benevolent Association and St. Mary of Mt. After their marriage, they settled in Wheelertown For a time, lie was employed by the Herkimer County Highway Dept. In 1944. Mr. Koenig accepted the Gsition of Reservoir Tender at North J Lake Road home at that time. Mr. Koenig was a Lutheran, as well as being a member of Uriel Masonic Lodge, Forestport and the Whitetail Deer Association Besides his wife, survivors include 2 sons. She has been actively engaged in its operation since. 26918 | Utica NY Daily Press - 4/22/1972 ILION-The funeral for Miss Karen Wohler. 19. of 51 W. River St. will be at 1:30 Sunday from the White - Hendrlx funeral Home. Burial will be in the Middleville Cemetery. Miss Wohler. a 1971 graduate of the Dion Central High School, died early yesterday when she was thrown from her car in the Dion Gorge and then pinned under the vehicle in Steele Creek which flows through the gorge. According to East Herkimer State Police, the accident occurred at 1 yesterday while Miss Wohler was driving north on Route 51 through the gorge. She lost control on a curve and the car struck a tree. Miss Wohler was ejected at this point, troopers, said. and landed in the creek. The car continued on into the creek, pinning her underneath. A coroner attributed death due to drowning. Thomas Jacquays, 25, of 340 Otsego St., a passenger, suf- fered a possible broken left wrist and said he would see his own physician. Miss Wohler was born in Ilion, daughter of Gerald and Helen Preston Wohler. She was a prac- tical nursing student in the Her- kimer County Board of Coopera- tive Educational Services Pro- gram. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a past pressident of the methodist Youth Fellowship. Doyle, and Paul Buehler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Buehler, were married at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in a ceremony per- formed in St. Stephen's Church by the Rev. Theodore F. Shannon, pastor. The couple was attended by Miss Rose Buehler, sister of the bridegroom and Roger Healey of Springfield, Mass. The bridde wore a gown of white Spanish lace over white satin with finger tip veil fashened to a lace cap in halo effect and carried white roses. Her maid of honor was gowned in heaven blue mar- quisette and wore a tiara of blue flowers to wich a short veil was fashened. Her bouquet was of pink roses. Mrs. Doyle's gown was of blue crepe, with accessories of a darker hue, and corsage of pink roses. The bridegroom's mother wore lavender crepe with matching hat and a corsage of yellow roses. Following the ceremony, the young couple left by motor for Washington, D. C. and other pooints of interest. After une the willl be at home at 1195 Utica St. Mrs. Buehler is a graduate of the Oriskany Central School and the Utica School of Commerce, and is employed in the Utica of- fice of the New York State De- partment of Public Works. ALSO North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 8/17/1938 Believed to have been the victim of a heart attack, Benjamin Achterberg, 23 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs, Charles Achterberg, Tonawanda Creek road, town of Amherst, sank in the Barge Canal while swimming with a number of other young people at Pickard's Bridge early last evening. The body was recovered IS minutes later by members of the North Amherst Fire company, of which the youth was a member. An inhilator was Used by the First Aid squad. of the Eggertsville Fire company in an unsuccessful attempt to restore him. Physicians said that no water was found in the man's lungs, giving rise to the belief that he was the victim of a heart attack. Not Expert Swimmer Achterberg was not an expert swimmer,..He had been swimming with other youths of Pickard's Bridge in the canal all Summer and was considered able to hand- le himself fairly well in the aquatic sport. The point where he went down was less than 1,00 feet from the Achterberg home and only a short distance east of the bridge over the canal in the small settlement. Ria Survivors Besides his parents the youth is survived by two brothers, Leonard and Maynard, at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Dexheimer, town of Wheatfield, and Lorna, at home. Medical examiner Charles E Long was called. The body was removed to Hamp's morgue or Adam street. Dr. Long has not issued a certificate of death. Italy, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs Salvatore Grippe and was married there to Mr Paratore in 1905. The couple came to Frankfort soon after- ward Mrs. Paratore was a. Member of St. Mary's Church and us Altar Rosary Society. Besides her husband, she leaves seven sons, Victor, Mt. Holly, N. J.; Edward. Florida; James, Rochester; John. New York City; Samuel. Syracuse; Frank. L'tica, and Joseph, Frankfort; eight daughters, Mrs. Marion Arena, Brooklyn; Mrs. Anna Percola, Mrs. Fanny Bono, Mrs. Mary Ctru/.zi, Mrs. Florence De- Gristina and Mrs. Sarah Spina, all of Utica; Mrs. Rose Leonard!, New York City; Mrs. C o n s t a n c e Romano, Syracuse; a brother, Philip Grippe. Frankfort; and several sisters in Tunis. Italy, also 60 grandchildren. The funeral will be from the V. J. locovozzi Funeral Home at a time and date to be announced. Italv. the daughter of Antonio and Theresa Ruffo Rocco. she came to this country and to Utica 'in 1901 She married Frederick Brindisi in Utica in 1906, He died here in 1957 Mrs. Brin- disi was a member of the Parkway Se- nior Citizens and a communicant of St Agnes Church She leaves two daughters. Mrs Jospeh (Theresa) Tropea and Mrs Richard (Rose) Clair, both of Utica: three sons, Rosario (Rusty). Salvatore (Sam), both of Utica. and Anthony (Shimp), Deerfield; a son. Benny, died in 1975; also surviving are seventeen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews The funeral will be held Thursday at 8:30 am. from the Matt Funeral Home and at 9 a m. in St. Agnes Church where a mass of Christian Burial will be cele- brated. D C Mr Wohler was born June 2. 1889. the son of the late Peter and Mariah Field Wohler. He was married to the former Nellie M Grower, who died in 1975. He was a member of Newport United Methodist Church. For many years, he was employed in the construction business. Survivors include 4 grandaughters. and 4 step-grandchildren Three sons. Kenneth. Edward, and Gerald. all died previously The funeral will be from the Autenrith Funeral Home. Newport on Monday at 11:00 am Interment will be in Newport Cemetery.
