27101 Obituary of Edwin Dunn

Edwin P. Dunn, age 85 of Ransomville, died Friday January 15, 2016 in the Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport after a long illness.


Ed was born June 6, 1930 in Lockport, NY, the son of the late Perry E. and Lillie May (Ryan) Dunn. A veteran of the Korean War, Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to his honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal in 1952 and was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with 5 bronze stars.


He was a Millwright/ Carpenter, employed out of Union Local #280 Lockport and Tonawanda for 38 years, retiring in 1992. Ed was a member of American Legion Post #410 and V.F.W. Post #2535, both in Lockport. He played the wash tub in the "Jone's Lonesome Trio Band" for 10 years. He enjoyed carpentry, welding, fishing, the outdoors, and spending time with his family.


On July 23, 1977 he married Gladys (Giertz) Dunn. In addition to Gladys he is survived by his children, Debbie (Frank) Wagner, Donna M. Massaro, Joy Lynn Cummings, Thomas A. (Sherry) Dunn, Brenda J. (James) Glaser, and Gail (Ralph) Friedrich; his step children, Allan (Carrie Anne) Huth, Rita (Matthew) Fritton, and Marvin (Linda) Fry; three sisters, Mary Dietz, Irene and Joyce Moore; three brothers, Ray, Robert, and Bernard Dunn; several grandchildren, one great grandchild, many nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by two step sons, Arnold and Albert Huth; a sister, Alice Mault; and two brothers, Donald and John Dunn.


Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 20, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. Geordie Davey, Pastor of the Lewiston Assembly of God, officiating. Eileen V. Petti, 82, of Lockport passed away on May 18, 2016. She was born on July 9, 1933 in Newfane, NY a daughter of Harry and Verna (Zanow) Klee. Eileen was a Factory Worker for Fisher Price and Feree Plastics. She loved to play Bingo.

Eileen is survived by her son Douglas (Rebecca) Petti, a daughter; Darlene Smith; her siblings Jerry Payne, Richard Klee, Joyce Murphy, Lucy Kowalski and Carol Roberts. She was predeceased by her daughter; Denise Kron. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Elaine Seeloff passed away January 17, 2016. Born in Lockport on October 22, 1937 she was the daughter of Adelbert Sharpe and Alice (James) Pearl Blackley. Elaine was a register nurse and worked for Niagara County and part-time for the Lockport School District. She enjoyed cross stitching, reading and knitting. Elain was predeceased by her husband Bruce Seeloff on February 17, 2014.

On February 14 1981, Elvina married Frank J Sciuk who predeceased her on June 6, 2006.Elvina attended Wilson High School and later Graduated from Kelly Business Institute. She enjoyed Bingo, Gardening, her pets, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.


Survivors include siblings Donna (late Sidney) Pettit and Shirley (Kenneth) Beyer and Larry Reed and former husband Duane Schoelles. Eugene Jakubowski, age 90 of Lewiston, died Tuesday March 8, 2016 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness.


Gene was born July 20, 1925 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Victor and Valeria (Dobraz) Jakubowski and he attended Trott Vocational High School. In 1947 he married Olga (Poltorak) Jakubowski and they moved to Lewiston in 1952. Gene was a Mechanical Supervisor, employed by the NY Power Authority for 25 years, retiring in 1986.


He and Olga are communicants of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston. Gene was an accomplished carpenter and wood worker. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and being outdoors. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.


In addition to his wife, Olga, he is survived by his children, Cheryl (Gene) O'Neall of Los Angeles, CA, Patricia (Jeffrey) Budde of Youngstown, Deborah (Dr. Peter) Kanter of Plymouth, MA, Loretta (Stepon) Jamgochian of Largo, FL, and Joseph (Kathi) Jakubowski of Youngstown; his grandchildren, Edward (Bonnie) Lynch, Jessica (Matthew) Parker, Christopher (Jessica) Budde , Elisabeth and Hannah Kanter; his great grandchildren, Thomas and Tyler Parker, Edward, Melanie, and Ashlynn Lynch, and Emily Whitaker; and a sister in law, Genevieve Jakubowski of San Marino, CA. Frances L. Earl passed away Sunday March 20, 2016. Born in Royalton on April 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William and Mina Brigham Webster. Frances worked at Gi-Ro Dry Cleaning for many years, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking and spending time with her family. She is predeceased by her husbands, Lester Reabold, who passed away in 1962 and Lawrence Earl, who passed away in 2013.

Frances was the mother of William (Barbara) Reabold of Burt, Susan (Greg) Verdun of Pontiac, Il. And the late Audrey Reabold Cronk; grandmother of Charles Reabold, Andrew (Kerry) Reabold, Christina (Todd) Troutman, Sarah (Brent) Harms, Robert Verdun, Maureen (Francis) Koziolek, William (Kerry) Gross and the late William Reabold Jr.; she is also survived by several great grandchildren. Frederick N. Butz, age 71 of Ransomville, went to his heavenly home on Saturday January 23, 2016 surrounded and cared for by his loving family.


Fred was born January 30, 1944 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Frederick W. and Dorothy (Schultz) Butz and was a lifelong resident of Ransomville. He was employed as a Welder by GM Harrison Radiator in Lockport for 28 years, retiring in 1993 and also had many part time jobs as well. On January 5, 1963 he married Gayle J. Zahno.


Fred was a lifelong member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge where he proudly served as an Usher for many years. Fred built and raced stock cars at Lancaster, Spencer, and Hamilton Speedways. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a big Dale Earnhardt fan. He enjoyed cruise nights in his 1978 Corvette Indianapolis Pace Car Edition. Fred was always working on projects around his home and loved helping his children. He enjoyed snowmobiling and camping but most of all loved playing and spending time with is grandchildren. Fred also enjoyed his daily visits for coffee at the Hillview Restaurant. For the past 26 years on the first Saturday in November, Fred and Gayle hosted “Chowder Day” for their many friends and family.


Fred is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gayle; his children, Debra Butz (Susan Slye) of Ransomville and Daniel (Jackie) Butz of Lawrenceville, PA; his grandchildren, Ryan Sargent, MaKayla, Kylee, and Trevor Butz, Jessica and Victoria Slye-Butz; a sister, Audrey (Richard) Woolson of Lewiston; two brothers, Wayne (Diane) Butz of Ransomville and Gary Butz (Paula) of Cheektowaga, NY, and a brother in law, Randall (late Janice) Zahno of Ransomville, and several nieces and nephews.

27111 Obituary of Genevieve Jakubowski

Genevieve (Lopacki) Jakubowski, 91, originally of Lewiston, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, August 24, while residing in California. She was the daughter of the late John and Victoria (Kajdasz) Lopacki.


In 1949 Genevieve married Edwin Jakubowski. They moved to Lewiston in 1955, into the home they built. Her beloved husband passed away in 1999, after they enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage and many wonderful travel adventures together. Genevieve was employed by Moore Business Forms on Buffalo Avenue for more than 15 years, retiring in 1992.


She is survived by her children, Susan Jakubowski (Bruce Weiner) of San Marino, CA., Ronald Jakubowski of Niagara Falls, and David (Delores) Jakubowski of Lewiston, also left behind are her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, whom she cherished and enjoyed very much. Genevieve is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sophie Lopacki, and sister-in-law Olga Jakubowski.


Genevieve was loved by all who knew her. Her humble, kind, and gracious ways stayed with her throughout her entire life. She was a woman of so very many talents, but when she took a break from her extended family, she loved vegetable and flower gardening. She was a member of St. Peter church in Lewiston for over 50 years, and was frequently involved with flower plantings, decorating, and cooking for events there. She was also a member of the Niagara Frontier Relic Hunters Association.


Genevieve was predeceased by her sisters, Stella Ohol, Victoria Wegrzyn, Valeria Dryja and Jenny Lopacki, and brothers, Stephen, Joseph, and John Lopacki. Genevieve also leaves behind special friends Ana Suarez and Michele Drabik.

St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.Genevieve was born September 10, 1923 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Blaise and Agatha (Ciolek) OBara. She was a 1941 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and had attended Kelly Business School. From 1942 to 1948 she worked at Carborundum Co. During WW II, Genevieve was pen pals with a young serviceman, Frederick Skurski, and in 1947 they were married. Frederick predeceased her in 2007. Genevieve is a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #1451 in Wheatfield. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, playing cards, as well as ceramics and many other crafts through the Cornell Cooperative Extension. Each spring for 18 years, Genevieve worked at the Wienke Greenhouses in Sanborn. The last two years she has resided in Brookdale Assisted Living on Nash Rd. where she enjoyed bingo and playing cards.She is survived by her daughters, Judy (late Robert) Willard of Ransomville and Agnes (Phillip) Ross of Dublin, OH; a son, Fred (Denise) Skurski of North Tonawanda; her grandchildren, Nicole (Michael) Janowsky, Jennifer (Thomas) Mangan, Marc Skurski, Katasha and Selena Ross; and her great grandchildren, Jarrett and Kaylin Janowsky, Alex and Frederick Mangan. George A. Amsdill, Jr., age 74 of Lewiston NY, died Monday November 7, 2016 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston after a lengthy illness.


George was born October 26, 1942 in Lewiston, the son of the late George A. Sr., and Loraine (Britton) Amsdill and was a 1960 graduate of Lewiston-Porter High School. A Vietnam Veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from March of 1964 to his honorable discharge in March of 1967. George spent 2 years in Japan as a Military Policeman and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. He devoted his life to serving the Village of Lewiston from 1967 to 2003 when he retired as Deputy Superintendent of Public Works.


George was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 584 in Lewiston, and a former member of the Ransomville F&AM Lodge # 551. He enjoyed hunting in Alleghany County for many years.


He is survived by his children, Anne, Harold, George H., Ernie J., Dennis P., and Scott D. Amsdill; his grandchildren, Alexandria, Christopher, and Olivia Amsdill; and a great grandson, Christopher Amsdill, Jr. a niece and nephews, Mark and Julie Zimmerman. He was predeceased by a sister, Joan Zimmerman.

"Hard working mother and wife and loving grandmother"


Anna Rose Marie Germaine ''Gerry'' (LePine) Hlavenka 93, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Northgate Health Care Facility. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada on September 9, 1922 she was the second youngest of 13 children and the daughter of the late Cyrille and Marie (Goupil) LePine. The family moved to the States from Quebec when she


was four years old and she attended Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School and Trott Vocational High School. She married Joseph Hlavenka in Niagara Falls, New York, September 27, 1941 and he predeceased her on November 14, 1997.


Gerry worked part time to help support her family. She worked for the Niagara Window Cleaning Service and finally Bowl-O-Drome. She loved to help her husband with his car repair business, loved painting (houses, not


canvases), loved bowling so much that when she lost the ability to bowl right-handed, she learned to bowl with her left hand and kept her average the same. Gerry also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was also very proud of her beautiful teeth. She would always smile, which led to the question "where did you get that great set of false teeth".


She is survived by her daughter G. Jeanette Schultz; son Joseph Hlavenka; granddaughters Lora(Joseph) Kolmer, Lauren(Rosario) D'Urso ; grandsons Michael Schultz, Jason(Michelle)Hlavenka, Nicklas(Lauren) Hlavenka ; great-granddaughters, Naomi Kolmer, Colette Hlavenka and Evelyn Hlavenka and great-grandsons Shae Kolmer and Ethan Hlavenka; younger brother Lucine LePine of LasVegas, Nevada and sister-in-law Julie Stone of Arizona.


Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by her brothers Fernand, Armand, Henry, Hormisdas, Leopold, Phillip, and Joseph and sisters Lea and Laura. The family sends a Special Thanks to: Nurses, doctors and social workers at Northgate Nursing Home and Niagara Hospice.

Grace (Simpson) Baker, age 98 of Ransomville, passed into the arms of her Lord on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family.


Grace was born November 8, 1917 in New Castle, PA, the daughter of the late Rev's Thomas and Hattie Simpson who were former pastors of the Ransomville Free Methodist Church. She was a 1934 graduate of Wilson High School and on March 11, 1939 she married Frank Baker and joined him in the operation of Frank Baker Farms in Ransomville. Grace was the first woman to be appointed to the NY State Agricultural Commission by Gov. Wilson, and was the first woman President of the Niagara County Farm Bureau, serving three terms. She was the Coordinator of a statewide Agricultural Youth Power Program; served many years on the Town of Porter Republican Committee, the Niagara County Planning Board, and the Town of Porter Zoning Board. Grace owned and operated a beauty shop in her home in Ransomville for 40 years.


She attended the Ransomville United Methodist Church. An avid reader, Grace read her bible every day. Her love of God and family, and strong faith were most important to her.


Her husband, Frank, predeceased her in 1981. She is survived by two sons, Peter (Barbara) and John (Karla) Baker; her grandchildren, Debra (Bill) Mussel, Jeffrey (Gloria) Baker, Susan Goodnough, Elizabeth (Frank) Shephard, Karyn Grace Baker and Jonathan Baker; 14 great grandchildren,1 great great grandchild,her former daughter in law, Karen Baker, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Grace Luff; a granddaughter, Melissa Fazzolari; her siblings, Rev. Thomas B. Simpson, Joseph, Laura, Mary, Fletcher, and Hannahbelle.

James L. "Jimmy" Delaney passed away peacefully with family by his side on September 7, 2016, in Niagara Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. James was born in Lockport on November 2, 1938 to J. Leslie Delaney and E. Marie "Dolly" Stoll Delaney. The youngest of 4 children, Jim was predeceased by his oldest sister Mary Chetney. He is survived by sisters Sally Rog and Noreen (Leo) Borner. He attended catholic schools his whole life and proudly graduated from DeSales Catholic School in 1956. Jim married Mary Carol Magin on September 13, 1958 at St. Patrick's RC Church. Jim worked in the grocery industry for many years and recently retired last year from Modern Disposal, as a security guard. Fuzzy, as he was affectionately called by his friends, belonged to the Knights of Columbus Counsel #319 as well as the Screwball Club. Jim was an avid bowler and especially enjoyed his Sportsman Three Man League. Jim and Mary had three daughters. He was such a devoted and loving father who gave his love and devotion unconditionally. Jim had 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Nothing brought him more joy than watching them achieve all their accomplishments. He never missed a school function, sporting event or dance recital. Jim especially loved attending all the kids sports games, even traveling to PA for every game at Bradford High School. His latest joy came just last week when he watched his youngest grandson, Austen, (Friday night under the lights) opening football game at St. Lawrence University. He shared his love of sports with all of his grandchildren and his favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Notre Dame. Jim was fortunate enough to attend two games at Notre Dame.

Jim is survived by Mary Carol and his three daughters, Beth (Dan) Holler of Lockport, Patti (Frank) Arlington of Bradford, PA, and Karen (Rick) Lauricella of Akron, NY; loving grandchildren David Bowes Jr. of Lockport, Erin Bowes of Charlotte, NC, Kristen (Michael) Lokey of Lockport, Tyler (Nikki) Arlington of Concord, NC, Stefan Arlington of Bradford, PA, Erik, Adam, Ashley, and Austen Lauricella all of Akron, NY; as well as his great grandchildren Brennan and Brylie Bowes of Lockport, Dylan Arlington of Bradford, PA, and Otice and Lukas Lokey of Lockport. James Robert Griebner, age 54 of Lewiston, died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at his residence.


Jim was born May 21, 1962 in Lewiston, NY, the son of the late Robert C. and Lois (Rickert) Griebner. He graduated from Lewiston Porter High School in 1980 and then completed diesel mechanic school in Ohio. Jim has had a long career as a diesel mechanic and recently received a ten-year commendation from his employer, Modern Disposal.




He loved his family and loved spending time with them. He attended numerous concerts and shows at ArtPark with his nephews George and Robert, and enjoyed sailing and fishing with his late uncle, William Rickert. Jim also cherished the time he could spend with his friends who, along with his family, will miss him dearly.

He enjoyed helping his neighbors with yard work, shoveling driveways, and any other chores they needed help with. A friend referred to him as a "neighborhood angel."


He is survived by his sister, Kristin G. Lathrop (Lloyd), and two nephews, George A. and Robert W. Wright.

Jenny was employed as a cashier in the cafeteria of the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for 15 years. Previous to that she worked at Moore Business Forms and as a Proof Reader for the Niagara Gazette.


In 1949 she married George Poulos. He predeceased her in 1962. She is survived by her daughter, Deidra (William) Ashton of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys A. Kciuk of Lewiston.

27126 Obituary of John "Jack" Lymburner John "Jack" E. Lymburner, age 94 of Ransomville died Tuesday March 17, 2015 in his son's home in Lewiston after a brief illness. Jack was born October 30, 1920 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Isaac and Marie (Piper) Lymburner. He graduated from Trott Vocational High School and worked for Shredded Wheat in Niagara Falls before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1940. Jack served throughout WW II and was honorably discharged as a Machinist Mate 1st Class in 1946. He was a "Tin Can Sailor" serving aboard the Destroyer's USS Benson and USS Grayson. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the European Theatre Medal with 5 stars, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Defense Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal. Jack married Dorothy L. Gomersall on March 20, 1943 and they moved to Ransomville in1956. Dorothy predeceased him in 2003. Jack was the Post Engineer for the Army Reserve Center in Niagara Falls for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Ransomville Masonic Lodge F&AM #551,a member for over 50 years of the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co. as well as an Exempt member, and a member of the American Legion O. Leo Curtiss Post #830 in Ransomville. He was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed golfing as well.He is survived by his children, John "Jack" L. 27130 Obituary of John Wielgus John Wielgus, 60, of Niagara Falls, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at his home, following a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. John was born December 6, 1954 to Edward and Mildred (Bechtel) Wielgus. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School, Class of 1974. John made his living as a house painter who worked side by side with his father but his true love and passion was music, Blues Music. Known to most as "Harmonica John," John was a member of a number of formidable Blues Bands, including The Buffalo King Snake Band, The Excellos and The Electras. John was one of the regular house musicians at the Imperial Garage in the 1980's that hosted several famed old time blues bands. Within this time his true success was with Stevie B and the Rhythm Rockers, they recorded an album "The Real Thing" and played live at Attica State Prison. In the 1990's John went on tour with James Peterson. John was honored by Buffalo Music Award for top blues Harmonica player in 1994 and again in 1995. In 2004 Blues Beat Magazine presented him with the Muddy Waters Award for excellence in the field of blues "Class Act Award." Last November, John played his harmonica for the last time at a tribute for him. Family and friends gathered to watch and listen to the talent of this amazing man. A very gentle and humble man, John played his harmonica every night referring to it as his prayer to the Lord for giving him the talent to share with others. John loved to read and was an animal lover. He was also an avid Yankees and true Buffalo Bills Fan. Family and friends found it entertaining watching John watch the games, rather than the games themselves. John is survived by his wife Heather, stepson Richard Kraft of Florida, two brothers, Edward Wielgus (fiancée Terri) of Middletown Ohio. Richard (Michele) Wielgus, of Lewiston, NY, two grandchildren Allison and Cooper Kraft.John and Heather shared a major role in raising his niece, Chelsey Wielgus, and he lovingly assumed the role "judgie" to Chelsey's' two children, Carly and Scotty. Donald predeceased her in 2005.


Judith worked as a clerk at Montondo's Seafood in Lockport for 31/2 years before becoming the Seafood Manager at the former Jubilee Store in Lockport for 10 years until 2000. She retired in 2003 from the Lakeside IGA in Wilson after 3 years of service.


Judith was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Middleport where she was a member of the Women's Guild and Quilter Group. She was also a member of the Johnson Creek Home Demonstration Group as well as the LewPort Class of 1958 Alumni Group.


She is survived by her children, Donald "Ted" (Sue) Cloy of Perry, NY, Kristen Cloy Wasnock of Barker, NY, and Melissa (Robert) Cloy Gogolack of Attica, NY; a daughter In law, Elizabeth Cloy of Middleport, NY; a brother, Thomas (Sharon) Dibbley of Dumfries, VA; a brother in law, Dave (Joyce) Cloy of Ransomville; two sisters in law, Connie (Alan) Schultz of Ransomville and Denise (Clinton) Hoerner of San Marcos, TX; ten grandchildren, one step grandson, five great grandchildren, one step great granddaughter, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Kevin Cloy, n 2014.

Lamont attended the Tuscarora Indian Mission where his late wife Karen E. (Jones) Kneeppel had served as Pastor from 1987 to 1998. He had served as Maintenance Superintendent at the Mission for many years as well. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his beloved family.He is survived by two sons, Marvin (Carolyn) Kneeppel and Wayne (Barbara) Kneeppel; two step sons, Donald (Alexis) Robinson and Kent G. Stainbrook, Leslie Mark-of Getzville, NY passed away October 16, 2016 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Buffalo on May 31, 1950 he is the son of Leslie R. and Bernice (Brunner) Stainbrook. Leslie worked for Laub International Warehouse for 31 years retiring in 2015 as forklift operator. He was a member of the Teamster Local 264 and also the Teamster Horsemen Motorcycle Association Chapter 46. Leslie enjoyed motorcycles, cars, hunting, country dancing, camping and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

Leslie is survived by his wife Catherine (Hamilton) Stainbrook; father of Mark (Scott LaMonte) Stainbrook, Steven (Amber) Stainbrook, and Michael (Jennifer) Stainbrook; step-father of Michael (Cassondra) Long; grandfather of six; brother of Sandra (William) Marschall.

27135 Obituary of Lewis Bell Lewis Turner Bell entered into rest October 19, 2015 in Batavia, NY. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Mildred and Lewis M. Bell.Born and raised in Lockport, Lew entered the Army, 1st Infantry Division in 1965. He earned the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Marksman (RifleM-14) Medal. Lew served as a Chaplain during the Vietnam conflict.After his return, he was employed and retired from HSBC (previously Marine Midland) where he had many friends and associates that enjoyed Lew's kind, warm ways. Lew was very active in Politics and in the Community. He volunteered to serve in the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Salvation Army Board of Directors, Cold Springs Cemetery Association and the Mason Lodge. Lew would volunteer to help anyone at any time, unconditionally. Lew also enjoyed playing the trombone in many different bands including the Barker Community Band, The Federation of Musicians, and many small bands that played around the community. He was always pleased to play on the Holidays and at the area nursing homes, when he felt it brought the most joy to his audience.Lew was a lifelong Episcopalian, serving as a lay reader and Eucharistic Minister. He was a quiet soul with a great sense of humor who touched many lives with his kindness. He will be fondly remembered by cousins Karen Sherwood and Buddy Turner of Lockport and Dana Castle of Virginia, close friends, Cyd Bennett Cehulik, Dave & Bonnie Seaman, James Hoste, Ted Hadley, Joe Kibler, Mary Brennan Taylor, Robert Bush, Doug Bowden, Lou Cain, Father Don Seekins and Clyde Locke. Linda, was born April 27, 1948, in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late William H. and Mildred (Buttery) Crewe. Her parents lived in the Barracks housing at Fort Niagara at the time of her birth and she has resided in Niagara County all of her life. On April 27, 1968 she married her husband Robert R. St. Cyr Sr. in Niagara Falls, NY and they made their home in the Porter area, celebrating their 47th year of marriage in April of this year. Linda had attended public schools in both the Lewiston Porter Central & Niagara Falls City School Districts. As a child she worked for several farmers in the area including the Nichols Farm on Route 104, picking fruits along with her parents and after her marriage, with her husband & son. She had also been employed as a Cleaner at the former Fairchild Manor Nursing Home in Lewiston. Upon becoming disabled Linda had attended the Dukes Center on Hyde Park & the Guild Care on Pine Avenue. She loved doing all types of handicraft work. Linda loved being with her family especially her great granddaughter, Faith. She also loved her daily phone talks with her sister Alice and looked forward to seeing her brother Ken ride his moped over to visit with her in good weather. Linda was an avid Bingo player and loved to go fishing with her husband and son. Lois Rickert Griebner, 85, of Lewiston, NY, passed into the arms of our Lord on Friday, April 1, 2016, at Niagara Hospice in Lockport after a long battle with cancer. Lois was a loving wife to Robert Clarence Griebner, who was taken from her much too soon, and mother to Kristin and James.


Born on June 20, 1930, in Niagara Falls to Elsie Rickert (Haseley) and Arthur Rickert, Lois had one brother, William Rickert (predeceased 2005). She graduated from LaSalle Jr./Sr. High School in 1948 and soon after went to work at DuPont in Niagara Falls. After her husband passed away, Lois returned to school, attending Niagara County Community College for Business then securing a position with Staff Builders.


Lois was a strong woman and a pillar of the community. For more than 50 years, she was a very active member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Lewiston as a Sunday School teacher as well as singing in the choir, serving on the women's guild, and being named Church Woman of the Year. She was also an active member of the Lewiston Garden Club, the 48ers group from LaSalle High School, and the Lewiston Historical Society. Lois loved her family and holidays, and family gatherings meant the world to her, as she found great joy in her family, both immediate and extended. Her love of the Lord shined through her.


Lois is survived by her daughter Kristin Griebner Lathrop (Lloyd), son James Griebner, and two grandsons, George Aron Wright and Robert William Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert (1978) and brother William (2005).

Lyman Fredrick Glynn, 101, of Lockport, New York, entered into rest on February 20, 2016 peacefully in his sleep.

Lyman was born in Lockport, New York, on June 16, 1914. He was a lifelong resident of Lockport, the city he loved to call home. Lyman married his loving wife Dorothy on July 13, 1940 and they were happily married for 62 years until her passing in 2002. Together they loved to travel and spend time with family and friends.

Lyman worked at Upson Co. for more than 30 years. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in giving his produce to family and friends throughout the growing season. He also loved to entertain at his house in the north end of Lockport. Many memorable games of shuffleboard were played in his home where he lived for 74 years.

Lyman is survived by his two children, Sharon (Richard) Palladino of Gasport and Fredrick (Joan) Glynn of Lockport; his 7 grandchildren Randy Palladino, Deanne (Capt. Joseph) Polanin, Michelle (Brian) Bradley, Sharon (Gregory) Saraf, Sean (Barbara) Glynn, Susan (Robert) Brooks and Tara (Michael) Wasik; great grandfather of Emily, Elizabeth and Erica Bradley, Alexis, Arianna and Cole Saraf, Alex, Brady and Chase Glynn, Zachary, Joshua and Jacob Brooks, Natalie Wasik, Kiana and Sydney Polanin.

Lyman is preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Mary Glynn; as well as 7 brothers and sisters. Lyman lived a truly blessed life and spread joy to everyone he met throughout his nearly 102 years on this Earth. Long live the beauty that comes down and through and onto all of us. Mary Elizabeth Garlock, 89, of Lockport, NY passed Wednesday, November 18, 2015. Mary was born in Lockport, NY on January 26, 1926 to Edward and Anna Ritz Ryan. She is an alumni of St. Joseph's Academy and later graduated from Mount St. Mary's Nursing School in 1946. Mary enjoyed a successful nursing career at Lockport Memorial Hospital, serving many years as an RN Nursing Supervisor. After her second retirement from LMH (she was recruited to return after her first retirement), she became an Ombudsman volunteer with the Dale Association. In 1948, Mary married Ralph M. Garlock. Mary and Ralph travelled across the country, including Hawaii-twice. An accomplished seamstress, Mary also enjoyed puzzles, playing Bid Pitch-a true Lockport card game-crossword puzzles, and ceramic painting.


She is predeceased by her Husband Ralph and brother Jack. She is survived by loving sibling Edward (Eleanor) Ryan living in Arizona. Mary also leaves behind 5 loving children: David Garlock (spouse Kathy), Thomas Garlock (spouse Laurie), Maryann Quartararo (nee Garlock) (spouse James Quartararo), James Garlock (spouse Terry), and Patricia Degan (nee Garlock) (spouse Raymond Degan). Mary also leaves behind her pride and joys, 12 grand-children and 4 great-granddaughters: Shawn Costello (spouse Lynne), Shannon Volland (nee Costello) (spouse Geoff Volland), Jennifer Garlock, Kimberly LaGreca (nee Garlock) (spouse Angelo LaGreca), Timothy Garlock, Courtney Garlock, Erin Moss (nee Garlock) (spouse Paul Moss), David Degan (spouse Emily), Lindsay Degan, Kate Garlock, Alex Garlock, and Elly Garlock. Known to the little ones as "GG", Mary held her family nearest and dearest to her heart. Sunday dinner was a tradition in the Garlock household with the whole family coming together for a delicious dinner and many rounds of Bid Pitch. Mary's family would agree that she was a wonderful cook. She would be celebrating her 90th birthday this coming January, surrounded by her loving family, and perhaps another round of Bid Pitch in her memory.

Knize, age 97 formerly of Lower River Rd. in Lewiston, died Sunday March 29, 2015 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, where she has been a resident since 2009.Mary was born August 12, 1917 on her family's farm in Pendleton, NY, the daughter of the late Howard and Rose (Landel) Melancon. She was a 1936 graduate of Grover Cleveland High School and had worked for Grant's Department Store during WW II. Mary had also worked as a bookkeeper for several years. On December 25, 1942 she married Henry "Hank" J. Knize and they moved to Lewiston in 1950.Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston and a former member of the Niagara County Cooperative Extension "Thursday Niters". She had volunteered at Artpark for many years and volunteered and provided the baked goods for many of the functions at the Church.Mary took great joy in watching her backyard birds and viewing the sunsets over the river from her front window. All of her life, Mary loved to sew, making her own and her daughter Linda's clothing. She also made several unique machine quilts. Mary enjoyed working in her extensive vegetable garden and numerous flower beds. Her baking abilities were widely recognized especially her sweet rolls, almond coffee cake, and all kinds of pies, most notably her grape and raisin pie. She and Hank liked to search for antiques together and spent many hours refinishing furniture as well. Mary will be remembered for many of these talents and hobbies but most of all it will be her patience, kindness, and beautiful spirit that will fill our memories. Hank predeceased Mary on March 14, 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Knize-Harper (James Harper) of Colorado Springs, CO , her granddaughter, Eileen Harper of South Seoul, Korea, and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Kenneth Knize; her sisters, Norma Leininger, Selma Fetzek, and Victorine Marquardt; and her brothers, Howard and Walter Melancon. 27146 Obituary of Mary Rose Mary Rose of Lockport, New York passed away on May 23, 2015 in Odd Fellow & Rebekah HCC under the care of her family and Niagara Hospice. Born on October 9, 1921 in Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of Samuel and Priscilla (Kozi) Tisack. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Rose, in 1973. She is survived by her beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia (Dennis) Sheehan, Diana (George) LeCroy, Mary Ellen (Tim) Mulvey; grandsons, Matthew (Sylvia) Calos, Ryan (Josephine Brooks) Mulvey, Gregory (Laura) Mulvey; great grandchildren, Leah Mulvey, Charlotte & Henry Mulvey and Felix Calos, who brought so much love and happiness into the last years of her life. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Kathryn (late Willard) Bowers and Rose (Jerome) Seese and many nieces and nephews. Mary L. Taylor, age 77 of the Town of Cambria, NY, died Sunday December 27, 2015 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.


Mary was born January 3, 1938 in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late George and Mary (Sheppard) Gombert. She was a 1956 graduate of LaSalle High School and later received her Associate's Degree from Niagara County Community College. Mary married Douglas M. Taylor on March 28, 1959 and they have resided in the Town of Cambria since 1960. She was employed as an EKG Technician by Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center until her diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 42 forced her to retire.


Mary was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


She is survived by her husband, Douglas; her children, Timothy (Carol) Taylor of Sherburne, NY, Jeffrey (Susan) Taylor of Corfu, NY, Cynthia (Mike) Zanghi of Elma, NY, and Melissa (Doug) Jalovick of Holland, NY; two sisters, Georgina Gregory of Skaneateles, NY and Maureen Gau of Orchard Park, NY; two brothers, Michael (Quinn) Gombert of Scottsdale, AZ and David Gombert of Youngstown, NY; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Maulis, age 97 of Ransomville, died Saturday November 7, 2015 at her residence while under the loving care of her family and her three loving and devoted caretakers.Mildred was born February 15, 1918 in the home where she died. She was the daughter of the late William and Irene (Hurtgam) Hillman. She was a 1936 graduate of Niagara Falls High School as well as a graduate of the Kelly Business School in Niagara Falls. Mildred worked as a secretary for E.I. DuPont Co. in Niagara Falls until her marriage to Eman Maulis on June 14, 1941. They had lived in Lewiston for over 30 years before returning to her family residence in Ransomville.A lifelong member, Mildred was baptized, confirmed and married in St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge where she served on the Altar Guild. An avid gardener and floral designer, Mildred was President and an active member of the Ridge View Garden Club in Lewiston. She received numerous awards for her floral designs and horticultural endeavors and was a Horticultural and Floral Judge. Mildred was also a member of the Valparaiso Guild and the Cambria Historical Society. She enjoyed gardening, selling produce at the Niagara Falls Farmers' Market, collecting and refinishing antiques, playing bridge, and crocheting.Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Eman, in 1999 and a daughter, Dana L. Roemke in 2008. She is survived by a daughter, Joan L. Manchester, age 79 of Ransomville, died Friday November 6, 2015 in the Elderwood Health Care at Wedgewood in Amherst, after a lengthy illness.Paul was born September 11, 1936 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Howard and Ruby (Barrett) Manchester. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956. He was a Machine Repairman 2nd Class and spent three years of sea service, his last assignment aboard the U.S.S. Piedmont. He was honorably discharged in 1960 and served an additional 2 years as a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves. On September 8, 1962 he married Betty J. Aaron and they have resided in Ransomville since 1972.Paul was a Machinist, employed by Harrison Radiator Division of GM in Lockport for 30 years, retiring in 1998. He and Betty are members of the North Ridge United Methodist Church. Paul enjoyed auto racing and was a fan of Jeff Gordon. He also enjoyed shooting his black powder rifle in competitions.In addition of his wife Betty, he is survived by his sons, Dennis (Donna) of Gasport, and Brian (Dorene) Manchester of Ransomville; his grandchildren, Brittany, Rachelle, Tiffany, Taylor, and Trisha; and a brother in law, John Aaron of Niagara Falls, NY. Paul R. Norwich, age 67 of Youngstown NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday December 11, 2015 in Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo.


He was born on June 9, 1948, the son of the late Raymond and Jean Norwich. Paul was a graduate of Bishop Duffy High School. Upon retiring from Delphi Harrison in Lockport, Paul was a member of the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a woodworking enthusiast who won numerous awards for his outstanding work.


He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; his children, Christine (Norwich) Wells, Raymond (Sherry) Norwich, David Argy, and Virginia (Kevin) Winkworth; two brothers, Leonard (Franceska) Norwich and David (Muriel) Norwich; a sister, Maryann Murphy, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; his dear aunts, Irene Connors and Mary Orszulak; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Stephen Norwich.


A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 15, at 7:00 PM in St. John's Episcopal Church, 110 Chestnut St., Youngstown, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a charity of your choice are welcome
