27501 | P.J. Savage Dies From Heart Attack Patrick J. Savage, 74, of 735 93rd St., was pronounced dead on arrival at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital Monday (Aug. 14, 1961) after suffering a heart attack at his home. Mr. Savage, who was better known as P. J. Savage, was given first aid by a fire department inhalator squad before being taken to hospital. Born in Big Rapids. Mich., Mr. Savage came to this city in 1914 from British Columbia where he was a timber inspector for the Canadian National Railroad. He worked at the former S. M. Ryder Co. and retired from Union Carbide Co. where he was a machinist. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Culliton; a daughter, Mrs. Richard Machelor, this city, and six grand children. Two sons predeceased him. Patrick J. Savage Jr. died in 1953 and Lt. Thomas E. Savage, serving with the U.S. Army in France, was killed in action in 1945. Funeral services will be held at the Rhoney Funeral Home Thursday at 8:45 a.m. and at Sacred Heart Church at 9:30 a.m., with internment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. 27505 | Palma A. Girardo, 57, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on February 23, 2024 at South Buffalo Mercy Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of Anthony Girardo and the late Concetta (Fato) Girardo. Palma liked listening to music and watching TV shows. More than anything, Palma loved spending time with her family and friends, and especially enjoyed holidays and special occasions. She was extremely fond of her mother’s home cooked meals. She also loved watching her nieces play when they were younger. Throughout her life, Palma lived under the care of the Western NY DDSO Group Homes in Lewiston, Lockport, and most recently Bullis Road in West Seneca. The family would like to especially thank all of the many nurses, aides, and caretakers that have shown compassion and cared for Palma her entire life. In addition to her father, Palma is survived by her sister, Maria T. (Peter) Micale; her nieces, Amanda (Taylor) Rogers and Angela Micale, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins in the United States and Italy. In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her Godparents, Nicola and Maria Girardo. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27 from 5 – 7 PM at M.J. 27506 | PALMITER - Shirley B., retired math teacher 5/4/2005 LOCKPORT - A Celebration of Life for Shirley "Chuck" Beach Palmiter, retired math and computer science teacher, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday in Lockport Canalside Banquet Facility, 210 Market St., Lockport. The Niagara Falls native died Sunday in his Pendleton home while under the care of Niagara Hospice after a long illness. He was 78. After graduating from LaSalle High School, he served in the Navy as a seaman 1st class aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangrila. After the war, he received a bachelor of science degree from the College of Charleston in South Carolina and subsequently took many graduate school courses. Mr. Palmiter taught math and computer science at Starpoint High School from 1958 to 1960 and at Lockport High School from 1960 until retiring in 1983. He then operated his own computer consulting business for six years. Mr. Palmiter and members of his family were involved in many area youth projects, including the Pendleton Little League Baseball and working with Boy Scout troops. She was born in Niagara Falls on September 4, 1963, a daughter of the late Glenn and Virginia (Spencer) Goodwin. Pam attended local schools and graduated from LaSalle Senior High School. She then attended Cosmetology school and was a Cosmetologist and Hairdresser for many years. She also worked at Matrix Imaging Solutions in Sanborn and at Moog Aerospace in East Aurora. Born in Introdacqua, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Aristide and Assunta (Bevilacqua) Ventresca. On July 25, 1954, Paola married Antonio ‘Tony’ Ventresca in Italy. Mr. Ventresca predeceased her on February 14, 2001. Paola moved to Niagara Falls in 1956 with her family. She worked at the Como Restaurant in the Bakery for 57 years until her retirement in 2020, and was well known for her famous Pizza Bread recipe, among many others. Paola enjoyed traveling with her late husband and children, including trips to Venezuela, cross country United States, trips to Europe and countless trips home to Italy. She enjoyed gardening, which she maintained until recent years. She was passionate about cooking for so many people, including her family and those she loved and was extremely generous and loving to all she met, even strangers. Paola was deeply devoted to her loving spouse, two sons and their families. She lived a life filled with faith and was a long time parishioner of Sacred Heart and St. Raphael parishes. Paola is survived by her two sons, Dr. Edward (Paula) Ventresca and Joseph (Tara) Ventresca; six grandchildren, Maria Ventresca, Ross Ventresca, Alec Ventresca, Maureen Ventresca, Anthony Ventresca and Brendan Ventresca; brother Egidio (Anna) Ventresca , sister Franca (late Beniamo Faiella) Ventresca and brother-in-law, Giovanni (Anna) Ventresca as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins both in the U.S. and Italy. Two brothers of 'this city are among the Rev. Mr. Nemeschy's survivors. They are John and Benjamin Nemeschy and one sister Lydia Schultz. At the time of his death the Rev Mr. Nemeschy was pastor emeritus of Town Line Lutheran Church in Alden and St. Nicodemus Lutheran Church in Porterville. He resigned as pastor of the Town Line Church in 1956 after 43 years of service. Services today were held in the Town Line Church. 27528 | Pastor Edwin Williams was born the second son of Arthur and Alvina (nee Whittcopp) in Buffalo, NY and was raised in rural western New York near the towns of Sanborn and Lockport. His father farmed in various locations and was employed by Bell Aircraft during WWII and later Nortons in Lockport. Ed was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Walmore, NY and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Lockport. He overcame many obstacles throughout his education. Since Low German was still spoken at home, Ed had to learn English when he started school, and he was the first in his family to graduate for high school. It was while attending Trinity Lutheran School that he first felt the call to become a pastor. He graduated from Lockport High School, from the former Concordia Junior College in Fort Wayne, IN, and from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. He was ordained in Trinity Lutheran Church in 1961. In Ontario, he met his future wife, Carol (nee Hoover).They were married August 13, 1966 after a long-distance courtship between South Dakota and Toronto, Canada. Before cell phones and Skype, the courtship was conducted via written letters. Their daughter Joy, a physician, and her husband, Tim Peterson and grandsons, Matthew and David reside in Ann Arbor, MI. Son, Patrick, a neuroscientist, resides in Allentown, PA. Also surviving are brother, Richard (late Sharon); sisters-in-law, Jeanne (late Roger Williams), Lois (Ross Arnold) and Emma (Mike Depner); brother-in-law, David (Jean) Hoover and many nieces and nephews. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Giuseppe ‘Paul’ and Mary (Paone) Ruggirello. Pat honorably served in the United States Air Force as a Firefighter from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1962. On August 12, 1967, he married Marjorie A. (Allotta) Ruggirello at Our Lady of Lebanon Church. Mrs. Ruggirello predeceased him on June 9, 2015 after 47 years of marriage. Pat was employed for 34 years as a Postal Supervisor for the United States Postal Service, working out of the Main Office in Niagara Falls, retiring in 1992. Pat enjoyed puzzles and watching football and hockey. Above all, Pat enjoyed spending time with his family - his life was centered around his daughter and grandchildren. Garlock, at St. Teresa’s Church. Patricia worked alongside her husband at Garlock’s Auto as a bookkeeper for over 42 years until her retirement in 1998. She was a longtime member of the FOE 1411 Eagle’s Club, St. Leo’s Church, the Town of Niagara Senior Citizen Center, and the Town of Niagara Yoga Program. In her leisure time, she enjoyed country-western dancing and traveling with her husband. In addition to her husband of 61 years, Patricia is survived by her four children, Bernadette (Gary) Howarth, Daniel (Janice) Garlock, Allen P. Patricia was energized by travel and invigorated by her experiences abroad—bringing her memories to life for those at home. She deeply valued learning the ways of others—a testament to her keen spirit and connection to our world, a gift instilled upon all she loved. For over 30 years, Patricia and Paul enjoyed the life of snowbirds, spending over half the year in Fort Myers, Florida. She indulged in her love of nature while exploring the beaches and dunes across Sanibel and Captiva Island with her family. When day was done, you could find her quietly appreciating every sunset over the Gulf’s horizon.She is survived by her five children: Ann, Mark (Nancy), Claire Gertz (Glen), Paula Jordan and Colette (John Sammis). Mr. Berds predeceased her on November 10, 2011. Patricia worked side by side with her husband as a hardwood floor sander and refinisher owning and operating Berds Floor Sanding for 20 years. After her retirement, she volunteered daily as a chef for Little Wonders Daycare at St. James United Methodist Church in Niagara Falls, where she was adored by both the children and the staff. Pat enjoyed gardening, sewing baby quilts and was the ultimate cook at holiday times. Above all, Pat loved spending time with her family especially her great grandchildren and children at Little Wonders. Pat is survived by 3 daughters, Wendy L. (Kirk) Orr, Lisa M. Mesler, and Vicki L. Mesler; 2 stepdaughters, Barbara (Norman) Barry and Lori (Chris) Berds; 4 grandchildren, Philip W. She was born in Lockport, NY, on September 28, 1947, the daughter of the late Joseph and Marcia [Boyland] Drew. Mrs. Barone graduated from Lockport Senior High School. She was active in the Girl Scouts and with the the Pendleton Boosters Association. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing and quilting. Mrs. Barone is survived by her husband of 49 years Francis V. Barone, four sons Geno (Alisa) Barone, Michael Barone, Francis (Jane) Barone, Jr. and William (Andrea) Barone, four daughters Susan (Andrew) Raynor, Tricia and Lisa Barone and Sarah (Justin) Reynolds, fifteen grandchildren Daniel, Rachael, Bailly, Jacob, Hannah, Cody, Matalin, Joseph, Charliana, Talon, Elliana, Cooper, Caylyn, Reese and Cienna, three great grandchildren Lexii, Conner and Canyon, one brother John Drew, also many nieces and nephews. 27549 | Patricia J. McGrew, age 60 of Newfane NY, died Wednesday April 20, 2016 in the Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness. Patricia was born in Lockport, the daughter of the late Harold and Betty (Meloon) Lockwood. She married Eugene F. McGrew on July 7, 1979. Together they raised three sons, Thomas McGrew of Lockport, and Eugene (Kristi) and James McGrew both of Newfane. Patricia enjoyed her animals, being outdoors, and mostly spending time with her family. Her husband, Eugene, predeceased her on July 2, 2010. In addition to her three sons, she is survived by Aiden and Lily McGrew and 5 other grandchildren; two sisters, Diane Redman and Kathy Danker; five brothers, David, Paul, Pete, Chris, and Harold Lockwood; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joe Meloon and David Lockwood, and a sister, Darlene Pentwright. Her children will be receiving family and friends at Patricia's residence on Friday, April 22, after 3:00 pm.
