27652 | Peter Castiglione passed away on February 12, 2018 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. He was born on December 3, 1927 to Salvatore and Annunziata (Guido) Castiglione in Niagara Falls, NY. A union carpenter by trade, Peter worked on several notable projects, including the Capitol Records building in Los Angeles and the Niagara Falls Power Project. In his retirement, he volunteered for 15 years for the North Tonawanda Food Pantry. He was most proud of his work as a volunteer for the Heart, Love, and Soul Food Bank, working the crowd for donations as they entered Artpark on Tuesday nights. He made many fans there and was responsible for raising many funds for his efforts. His mother died when he was very young. During the Depression, when his father was unable to support the family, he had to place them into foster care. However, he insisted that Peter and his three siblings all remain together. Thankfully, the Arnone family of Niagara Falls took great care of them until his father was once again able to support them all. As a result of those beginnings, the most important thing to our father was his family. We will always cherish memories of Fourth of July picnics hosted in his backyard for over 40 years, Sundays at Elco Beach, playing “zoo” with the grandkids and sitting at the head of the table for Sunday dinner which he did until the week before he entered Hospice. And we promise, Dad, to always remember to drive carefully…. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Eleanor (Gabriel) Castiglione. He is also survived by his five children: Jane Killewald, Jerry (Maureen) Castiglione, Donna Castiglione, Marie (Lance) Lillian, and Paul (Chris) Castiglione. He had 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers: Benny (late Collie) Castiglione, Joe (late Gloria) Castiglione, and a sister, Rachel (late Gregory) Foran, all of Lewiston, NY. Visitation will be Friday February 16th from 4-7 P.M. at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Rd, Niagara Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. Everyone please assemble at Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Church or Niagara Hospice. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences. | CASTIGLIONE, Peter (I186200)

27662 | Peter Mascaro, 88, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on June 19, 2019 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cellara, Italy on January 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Francesco and Giulia (Fera) Mascaro. Peter loved his small town of Cellara where he lived with his two brothers and parents, attending church at San Sebastiano and doing the very best with what little was available during the war. In the late 1940s Peter’s father sat his sons down and spoke with them about emigrating to the US in hopes of a better life. Peter made his way to North America through Halifax, Canada and arrived in Niagara Falls in December 1951 where friends and family who arrived prior awaited him. He had $26 in his pocket. At a dinner dance at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Niagara Falls, Peter asked Laura Parenti to dance. Little did he know then that he would be dancing with her for the rest of his life. He asked to walk her home that night, and soon began a courtship that involved Italian movies on Wednesday nights and dances at the Marconi Hall on the weekend. Peter and Laura surrounded themselves with friends that would be with them throughout the years. They married in 1955 and went on to have 4 daughters that would fill their lives with much joy. They were blessed with 8 grandchildren and 4 wonderful great grandchildren. Peter lived for his family. Peter was determined to work hard and build a beautiful life in the US. He first began working with his brothers Tony and Aldo in concrete and waterproofing. He went on to build homes and later create a successful construction company of his own. Peter built his first house where he lived with his wife and children in Niagara Falls. He often went to Canada for grocery shopping, which was something he loved to do. One day after a shopping trip he came home and announced that this time he had bought a grocery store in Canada and the family was all moving. The years in Canada operating Mascaro Food Market were wonderful. Beautiful friendships were made and he remained close to many of the relatives that lived there. He missed the construction business and after several years with the store, decided to move back to the US to pursue building. He started Peter Mascaro Construction, Inc. in 1968, building many commercial and residential structures in Western New York, and operated until his retirement in 1995. He built homes for family and friends - and for those that weren’t yet friends, although they always became so afterward. Some of Peter’s most cherished friendships came from his work in construction with wonderful people that he and his company built homes for and worked alongside. In his retirement from the construction business, Peter continued to focus on managing his many properties, advising his family and grandchildren on everything from school to work, and on bringing back into the forefront of his life some of the simple pleasures he carried with him from his upbringing in Italy. He loved to tend his garden and share what came from it with his family and friends. He took care of chickens and other animals at his “Yard” on Porter Road, too. He went on to organize an annual gathering celebrating San Sebastiano of his home town, the “Cellara Picnic,” which celebrated old traditions with a new generation of family and friends. Peter enjoyed making wine and soppresatta with his family and friends, passing the tradition onto his grandsons. In addition, he was an avid Sabres fan, Yankees fan and enjoyed playing bocce. With all of Peter’s success in life, he was most proud of his family and the legacy he created Peter’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Jain for his wonderful care and friendship and also to Millard Filmore Suburban and Buffalo General Hospitals for the compassion, comfort and care he received. Peter is survived by his wife of 64 years, Laura A. Mascaro; his daughters, Julie (John) Polka, Eda (James) Buzzelli, Franca (Frank) Romeo, and Gina Mascaro-Lore; his grandchildren, John (Adrienne Muia) Polka, Laura (Dr. Tim) Lukasik, Angela Lore, Stefania Romeo (Lee Hnetinka), Domenic Romeo, Gino (Nadeen) Buzzelli, Dr. Peter Lore, and Gabriella Buzzelli; great-grandchildren Nicolas & Francesca Polka, and Alexa & Ariana Lukasik; his brother Aldo (Pauline) Mascaro, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Anthony (late Clara) Mascaro and his brother-in-law Jerry (late Mary) Parenti. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23 from 3 – 7 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where funeral services will begin on Monday, June 24 at 9:15 AM followed by Peter’s Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 North Military Road Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
