Mielke, Cambria Farmer Drops Dead on Farm Stricken at 4 o'clock Wednesday while working on his farm, Cambria road, town of Cambria, William P. Mielke, collapsed and died. Coroner Jacob B. Helwig, North Tonawanda, attributed death to a heart ailment. Born in Germany, Mr. Mielke came to the United States he was 18 years of age and had lived in the town of Cambria ever since. 3152 | August 29, 2012 Harold Dale Ankenbauer Niagara Gazette ERIE, PA — Harold Dale Ankenbauer, son of Harold and Eileen (Tuttle) Ankenbauer, was born on June 15, 1940. He attended Red Brick School in Youngstown and Lewiston Porter. Harold worked on the Power Project and at Bell Aerospace before joining the Marines in 1962. He was one of the first waves of Marines that hit the beach in the Gulf of Tonkin, where he saved many of his crew when they hit a land mine. Harold was a highly decorated Marine. He also was an avid fisherman, golfer and hunter. Harold was predeceased by his wife, Viola (Jean) Ankenbauer in 1995. He is survived by a daughter, Patti (William) Yoe of Madison, OH; a son, Dale (Corine) Ankenbauer of Erie, PA; two grandsons, Mario and Dominick; a brother, Richard J. (Bonnie) Ankenbauer of Erie, PA; a sister, Joanne (Paul) Hargrave of Lewiston, NY; his longtime companion, Shirly Ward of Erie, PA; and several nieces and nephews. No prior visitation. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Theresa (McArdle) Harrington. Mrs. Hilts attended Niagara Falls High School where she was in the choir. In 1943, Mae married the late Robert M. Hilts. She worked at Hilts Pharmacy for several years, Page’s Whistle Pig for four years, operated Sunny Acres Grocery Store for nine years and worked for the LaSalle Sportsman’s Club for nine years. She lived in Niagara Falls, NY until 2005, when she moved to Cordova, TN. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Stephenson of Cordova; four granddaughters, six great- grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; a daughter, Elaine Martinez; a sister, Dolores Hartman and her brother, Clinton Harrington. Born on August 25, 1955, she was the daughter of Henry and Betty (Lunn) Wojtowicz of Pekin, NY. Cindy served as Director of the Newfane Golden Agers club with love and as a fierce advocate for HER senior members. She referred to it as her perfect job, stating "Where else can I work and be friends with those I love and respect-and get so much more in return?". When her health prevented her from returning to work, she looked forward to joining as a member when able. Among her greatest loves and joys were her family, painting with dear friends and time spent at the family cabin in Tidioute, PA. with family and special friends. Klizek, 88, formerly of 25th Street, Niagara Falls, NY, died on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Anna (Swierat) Kliczek. Stan was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and attended local schools including the former Trott Vocational High School. During World War II he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from January 29, 1946 until his honorable discharge on April 8, 1947 and was the recipient of a World War II Victory Medal. On September 10, 1949 he married Ruth J. (Turczynski) Klizek at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Niagara Falls. Mrs. Klizek predeceased him on June 8, 2009. Stan was employed as a pipefitter at the former Niagara Alkalai in Niagara Falls and following that he worked at Hooker Chemical Company later known as Occidental Chemical Co. also in Niagara Falls and retired in 1982 after forty four years of service. Stan was a longtime devoted member of the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church where he served as a parish trustee, usher, choir member and was their primary altar server. He also served in the Miraculous Medal Novena at the former Our Lady of Lebanon Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus all in Niagara Falls. Stan enjoyed socializing with the Senior Citizens Clubs of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and the John Duke Center. Throughout his lifetime Stasiu liked to dance and even as a resident of Our Lady of Peace he often asked people there to dance with him. Most importantly, StanÕs life was centered on his family and he will be remembered as a respected family man. Mr. Klizek is survived by two sons, Ronald D. (Denise L.) Klizek, M.D. of Lakewood, NY and Rev. Duane R. Klizek of Niagara Falls, NY; two grandchildren, Matthew D. Klizek and Emily A. Klizek, Esq.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born on June 3, 1927 in Wolcottsburg, NY, the son of Arthur and Fredericka Landow Wendler. He is survived by his wife, Lorna Bruning Wendler. They were married on July 29, 1950 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, NY, and were 53-year residents of their Gasport home before moving to Lockport. Mr. Wendler served in the Army after graduating from Parker High School in Clarence, NY, in 1945. His service included the mustering out of returning World War II veterans at Fort Dix, New Jersey. After five years of working at Pratt & Lambert Paint Co in Buffalo, he began his employment at the GM Harrison plant in Lockport, retiring in 1989 after 37 years service. Besides his wife, Mr. Wendler is survived by four children, Paul (Judith Maher) Wendler of Raleigh, NC, Curtis (Paula Class) Wendler of Lockport, NY, Heather (Dale) Borget of Pleasant Garden, NC, and Robert (Ruth Crutts) Wendler of Barker, NY. She was born in Wallace, NY on June 28, 1919, the daughter of the late Lyman and Mattie Edwards. In 1941, she married the late Alan Lusk, who passed away in 1982. They came to Niagara Falls on their honeymoon and decided to make their home here and raise a family. Mrs. Lusk worked in retail for the Maid of the Mist Corp. and as a sales clerk at Sears Roebuck. She was a hard working woman who didn't retire until she was 90 years old. She loved animals and enjoyed having her own pets, especially her dog, Darby. Mrs. Lusk is survived by her son, Alan (Cindy) Lusk of Youngstown; and her beloved grandchildren, Daniel and Allison. On June 1, 1940, she married Mario F. Cortellini at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Cortellini predeceased her on May 4, 2008. In her younger years, Pauline worked on the Zuccari Dairy Farm in Bergholtz that is owned and operated by her family. Pauline loved being a homemaker and took great pleasure in cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed gardening and working in her yard, but most of all, Pauline will be remembered as a devoted grandmother who loved spending time with her family. Pauline is survived by her devoted daughter, Gloria A. Cortellini of Niagara Falls, NY and was predeceased by one daughter, Geraldine (Virgil of Alabama) Cross. After graduation, Rosemarie was employed as a typist by the Niagara Falls Board of Education and then as a window decorator for F.W. Woolworth. She had also worked for Harris & Lever as a flower arranger. Rosemarie was a communicant of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and oil painting. She was married to William L. Newton for 28 1/2 years until his passing in 1969. Her second husband, Charles W. Moyer, Sr. passed in 2004 after 30 years of marriage. She is survived by two sons, Bruce D. (Diana) Newton of Youngstown and Robert C. Newton of Lockport; two stepdaughters, Linda Whitesell of Wheeling, IL and Suzanne (Lynn) Stein of Princess Ann, MD; a brother, Robert W. (Kathryn) Miklitsch of Lewiston; ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, William L. Newton, Jr.; a stepson, Charles W. Camann was called to her heavenly home to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 2, 2014, in Williamsville Suburban Nursing Home, Amherst, NY, at the age of 86. She was born in Lewiston, NY, on June 15, 1928, the daughter of the late Edward William and Eleanor Hulda (Walck) Haseley. Mrs. Camann attended Niagara Falls High School. She was employed with Carborundum and was a cook at both the Bergholz Restaurant and John's Flaming Hearth, where she met Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Walmore, where she helped prepare meals and served on the Bereavement Luncheons. She was an avid supporter of the Sanborn Fire Company Band. Mrs. Camann was a beloved aunt and sister-in-law known for her baking of delicious cookies and pies. Family events were very important to her and she treated her nieces and nephews like her own children. She was the wife of the late Warren E. Camann, who died on July 26, 2003. They were married on October 8, 1949. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on January 2, 1939, the son of the late Willard H. and Helen (Frombgen)Broderick. His family moved to Wilson and later to Lockport, where he graduated from DeSales High School in 1956. He served with the US Marine Corp, 8th Engineer Battalion, Fleet Marine Force out of Camp Lejeune, NC. After returning from the service, he attended and graduated from Niagara University. Mr. Broderick was the assistant district executive with the Boy Scouts of America and then became district manager of Marine Midland Bank leasing corporation. He was appointed Niagara County Treasurer by the late Governor Nelson Rockefeller in 1973, a post he held for 37 years before retiring in 2010. Mr. Broderick was the longest serving county treasurer in New York State History. Mr. Broderick was Past President of the New York State Treasurers and Financial Officers Association. He was actively involved with the Niagara Falls Jaycees, Past President of theSt. Mary's Board of Associates. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Niagara Frontier County Club and the Lockport Town and Country Club. Mr. Broderick is survived by his wife, Jane A. Townsend, 77 of Youngstown, NY, passed away after a short illness on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls on February 22, 1936, he was the son of the late Elwin and Gladys (Oakes) Townsend of Niagara Falls, NY, later of Youngstown, NY. Norman attended Maple Avenue School, North Junior, Niagara Falls High School, graduating in 1953. He also attended Niagara University School of Business from 1953-1957 and received a Bachelor's Degree. Norman entered the United States Army in 1959, serving in a personnel company at Fort Dix, NJ and was honorably discharged as a SP-4 in 1961. In 1964, Norman moved to Youngstown, NY and became a member of St. Bernard’s Church where he regularly attended mass. Following his military service he went to work in the family auto parts business in Niagara Falls, with his brother. In 1978, they moved their NAPA store to Porter Road in the Town of Niagara. In 1995, that business was sold and moved a short distance to Military Road by its new owners, where it remains today. Norman remained with the new company until his retirement in 2002. His droll sense of humor and many years of experience were great assets to the businesses he worked for and enjoyed by his co-workers and customers. Norman enjoyed boating and fishing for many years often in the Niagara River, Lakes Ontario and Erie and numerous smaller lakes in Ontario, Canada. He spent part of many vacations with his life-long friend, George Mack at his family home on Lake Muskoka in Ontario, Canada. His devoted friend and companion on many fishing trips on Lake Erie and elsewhere was David Stevens of Lewiston, NY. His interest in hunting and fishing led to many pleasant days pursuing those sports. Norman also became interested in trap shooting, becoming quite skilled in this sport and later in small-arms target shooting. He was a member of the 3F Club in Lewiston for many years. After his retirement in 2002, he became an ardent canoeist and enjoyed paddling the streams, lakes and rivers of New York, northern Pennsylvania and Ontario, most often with his brother Louis. He especially enjoyed camping and canoing in the Adirondacks Mountains and spent several summers with his brother paddling the canoe wilderness areas of that vast park until medical problems required him to lead a few remaining quieter years at his home on the border of Fort Niagara State Park. Walking often there often, in the park he loved. He is survived by his brother, Louis (Sandra) Townsend of Niagara Falls, NY; his nephews, Paul (Dawn) Townsend of Niagara Falls, NY and David (Stephanie) Townsend of Corona, CA. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his nephew, Michael Townsend. There is no prior visitation. Gloria was later employed as a Nursery School Teacher and Licensed Real Estate Agent. In 2006, she moved to Elma, NY. Mrs. Elmer was very active in her community and was an elected member of her homeowners association. Gloria was an avid card player and especially enjoyed playing Bridge. She also liked swimming. Proefrock, age 87, of North Tonawanda, passed away on August 6, 2011, at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was born February 5, 1924; his parents were the late William and Augusta Proefrock. Roger was a 1942 graduate of North Tonawanda High School, where he was active in sports and other activities. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in the South Pacific. He was stationed in New Guinea, Borneo and the Philippines. After the war he was stationed in Japan for several months before returning home. As a professional carpenter for more than 50 years, Roger built and renovated many homes in North Tonawanda and the surrounding suburbs. He liked helping families create a living environment that was functional and enjoyable. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church for over 35 years, where he was active in the church’s Senior and Male Choirs. He also had served as an Elder, Stewardship Chairman and on many other committees. He and his wife were past members of the Twin City Camera Club, spending many hours together photographing wherever their travels took them. Their other interests included tennis and bicycling. She was employed at the Carborundum Corporation for 15 years. On April 28, 1951, she married Anthony A. Volpe in St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. For the past 40 years, she worked for the Food Service Department at Niagara University, where she developed lifelong friendships. Sallie was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Sallie was predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years, Anthony A. Volpe, who passed away on February 10, 1988. Sallie is survived by one son, Daniel A. Staniszewski of North Tonawanda, entered into eternal life on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at the age of 89, at Buffalo General Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, Mr. Staniszewski resided in North Tonawanda for forty-five years. He graduated from Holy Trinity School, Niagara Falls High School and Niagara University. Ted was a US Army veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict where he served with the 100th Infantry Unit and the 520th Police Honor Guard. He was a retired employee of Hooker Chemical Co. and was a ticket agent for the Maid of the Mist. Ted was a longtime parishioner of O.L.C. Church where he worked with the ladies making pierogies, was a member of the Wheatfield Lions Club and read for the blind. He leaves a legacy of a strong work ethic, his faith in God and a love of reading and conversation to all his family. Dearest father of Patricia (James) Spannagel of Arlington Heights, IL, Kathryn Staniszewski of Ocala, FL, James Staniszewski of Pasadena, TX, Robert (Susan) Staniszewski of Pell City, AL, Frederick Staniszewski of Niagara Falls, NY and Carol Staniszewski of Pearland, TX; proud and loving grandfather of fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Jaenecke, 89, of 107 Zimmerman street, a life-long resident and a member of the St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran church, died this morning at his home after a prolonged illness. He is survived by two sons, Julius and Arnold of North Tonawanda; two daughters, Mrs. Rose Kaufmann of North Tonawanda and Mrs. O. F. Gentzke of Tonawanda; 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a brother, William Jaenecke of North Tonawanda, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hake of Alden, Mrs. Elizabeth Kopp of Ransomville and Mrs. Anna Goltz of North Tonawanda. Two of the grandsons, Pvt. Norman Jaenecke of the U. S. Army and Pvt. Otto Gentzke of the U. S. Marines, are serving with the armed forces.
