His affinity for Michigan State remained strong throughout his life, symbolized by the university's flag that he proudly displayed in his garden alongside numerous memorabilia that could be found all over the house. His bond with his high school peers from the LaSalle Class of 1963 also stayed unbroken throughout the years.
Embracing the entrepreneurial spirit, Basil founded and operated BCS Forms/Vending with great pride. In time, he would pass this mantle onto his son, Basil Stahlman III, fostering a legacy that allowed his vision to live on.
Passionate about the outdoors, Basil found serenity in boating, fishing, and hunting. His dedication led him to the LaSalle Yacht Club, where he served as Commodore and was bestowed the prestigious lifetime title of Honorary Past Commodore. His exceptional skills as an angler were nationally recognized, culminating in his selection to the distinguished First Team in a North America Fishing League tournament.
Beyond his business and outdoor pursuits, Basil dedicated his time and expertise to the Niagara Falls Youth Board. As both a Chairman and member for many years, his initiatives fostered growth and opportunities for local youth, leaving a lasting impact on the community. Yet, the cornerstone of Basil's life, his greatest pride and joy, was his family and grandchildren. The love and memories shared will endure in their hearts forever.
Basil's life was beautifully enriched by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Betty (Searles) Stahlman, and their three devoted children: Dawn (Mark) Mueller, Christie (Thomas) Putnam, and Basil C. (Ranee) Stahlman III. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Albert J. Stahlman, sister-in-law Monie Stahlman, and numerous cherished nieces and nephews. He now joins his predeceased brother, Bernard L. “Butch” Stahlman, in eternal rest.
Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects on Friday, beginning at 10 AM at LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls. A touching eulogy will be delivered by his nephew, Reverend Adam Frank Searles, at 12:30 PM. Interment will be private. In Basil Stahlman, Jr.'s memory, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Visiting Nursing Association (VNA) of Niagara County, an organization that provided exemplary care to Basil and his family during his final days. Please send contributions to VNA of Niagara County, 3780 Commerce Court, Suite 100, North Tonawanda, NY 14120. Your generosity helps honor Basil's legacy of community giving.
As we reflect on the life of Basil C. Stahlman, Jr., we find ourselves remembering a man of steadfast courage, humble service, and deep love. His influence within his family and community was profound and remains as his enduring legacy. Though he will be dearly missed, the cherished memories of Basil will continue to inspire and comfort those who had the privilege of knowing him.
