struck by Central engine No 210, pulling a
gravel train on the Tonawanda branch at
the crossing near the Catholic church in
that village about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon

was coming east, came in sight of the
crossing he saw Mrs. Peard standing in
the center of the track, looking in the opposite
direction As she did not move as
the train neared the crossing be blew his

Mrs. Eunice Knowlton Blood, aged 71 years,
died In Bethany on Saturday, January 10th, at
5 o'clock p. m. Pneumonia, in connection
with the asthma, with which she had suffered
many years and at times very severely, was
the cause of her death. Mrs. Blood was twlce
married. Her first husband was Hiram West,
with whom she lived, near Pavilion Center, a
few years, by whom she had two children a
son and daughter. The son lives In Iowa.-
The daughter married S. P. Andrews and resides
In Rochester. Mrs. West married Nason
Blood, of Bethany, her second husband, in
Oct. 1st, 1840. In this union there were two
families brought together, and in time the
third. Mrs. Blood was one of that claas of
women ot strong resolutions; whatever she
undertook must be done and well done. She
adopted Mr. Blood's children as hers, and
made an excellent mother tor them She used
her influence to have all the children well educated.
They loved and esteemed her as a
mother should be. The Savior was her daily
companlon; her bible bore the evidence of
daily use; she was an excellent bible student,
always ready to converse on religious sub
jects. This prepared her for a mother's duty
and a wife's help to her husband. She fell
asleep in Jesus with no fears for the future;
she died as the christian digs; her sun-set was
all that could be desired; she had the utmost
confidence In prayer. She Is greatly missed
by the attentive family, who watched over
her so closely to the last. The neighbors say
"our mother is gone-she was a mother to all
of us." She was buried In the beautiful cemetery
at Bethany Center by the side of other
kindred. Funeral services conducted by Rev.
R. H. Dexter, assisted by Rev. J. M. Scarff.
