4310 | Buffalo NY Courier - 12/12/1909 The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Souter on the morning of December 4th removed one of Buffalo's truest nobihty. Mrs. Souter, living at the time of her decease with her son, Jesse R. Souter, at No. 243 Maryland Street, had spent her more than seventy-slx years in this city. Her life had been full of deeds of kindness and her record one of unfailing faithfulness. She was most sweetly marked by that "meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great praise." Gentle and kindly, with flashes of genial humor, loving cheerfulness, but never forward, this noble lady lived as truly Christian a life as one could anywhere find, and drew hearts to her as the sunlight draws the birds or the flowers draw the bees. Left long years a widow, Mrs. Souter sought solace in her children and her friends, of which last there were many, and above all she found comfort and peace in the Saviour who was her all-in-all. Many and many a -time, when she felt scarcely able to go, Mrs. Souter was found in her place ln the house of God, whether she loved to resort for worship and for fellowship with believers who were bound on the same pilgrimage as herself. For thirty-flve years this faithful one was a member of the Prospect Avenue Baptist Church, where she will long be lovingly remembered for her most beautiful spirit and faithful service. Seized at last with a malady which took the heart in its clutch, this good woman ended her earthly journey with serenity and went Home. Mourned and missed by many besides her own. Mrs. Souter's memory will long be cherished. She is survived by Isaac J. Souter. Jesse R. Souter and Mrs. William H. Van Vliet of Boston, Mass. The funeral was held at tne home on Maryland Street, Monday afternoon. In the absence of her pastor from the city, the, service was conducted by the Rev. George Whitman, pastor of the Lafayette Avenue Baptist Church, once her pastor In the Cedar Street Church. | BODAMER, Elizabeth (I153771)

4315 | Buffalo NY Courier - 12/3/1913 Guards, policemen, turnkeys, prisoners, probation officers, court stenographers and even the austere judges themselves, felt their lips impulsively puckering into the strains of Mr. Mendelssohn's wedding glide, when the principal corridor of the city court building witnessed the passage of a true bridal procession at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon-the first to have trod the bleak building in years. "Oh, hear the band a playing," hummed a guard as Katherine Rousselet, the blushing bride, was led from her carriage by the bridegroom, Oscar Boll, up the court steps, through the swinging doors, along the gauntlet of court attaches and straight toj the elevator. There the procession,' headed by Bertha Sulser, bridesmaid, and Walter A. Boll, best man, halted and awaited the pleasure of the elevator boy, who was chatting with a fair witness at the second floor. Eventually the car descended and the bridal party em barged for the top story and Judge Noonan's office where they were booked to be spliced. Looked the Part. No bride ever looked more the bride than did winsome Miss Rousselet (pardon the paradox-Mrs. Boll). She wore a pretty satin gown and carried a bouquet of bridal roses. The bridegroom was in black. The bridesmaid shone forth In yellow satin. They came to the court in a big carriage drawn by a spaa of bays, and departed in the same equipage after the ceremony. The appointment for the ceremony was made with Mrs. Sweeney, court matron, and the judge did not have to wait a minute over his appointment Neither bride nor bridegroom has been in this country many months. That is not why they went to Judge Noonan to get married, however. Both wished a civil ceremony, and when the day came for them to embark on the matrimonial sea they chose Judge Noonan as the launcher. Amid the congratulations of the judge's stenographer, the captor and captured left the building, suffused in smiles. The feeling must have been infectious, for everyone in the corridor smiled, too. | Family: BOLL, Oscar B / ROUSSELET, Katherine (F56214)

They are: Frank Fotos, fifty years old, of Forks, N. T.: George Obers , forty-two years old, of No. 86 Nevada street; Arthur Harrnik, twenty-one years old, of Forks; John Draszskiewics, twentynine years old, of Forks, and Walter Zobowski, nineteen years old. of Forks. Those given first aid at the scene and sent home: Edward Granse, Andrew Hill; F.L.Schulmberg,, Forks; Robert Beinig, No. 413 Goodyer avenue; Leo Haas, Montana street; Frank Brittling- er, Cheektowaga; Charles Hausner, No. 373 Urban street; August Pauly,, No. 145 St. Louis avenue; Hugh and John Kin- sella, No. 14 Moeler avenue; Victor Gangloff, Union road, and Arthur Dorn, No. 245 Landon street; Schulm- berg was a brother-in-law of Martin Smith, the dead man. All were cut and bruised, but none was seriously hurt. On "Death Curve" The wrecked car,, No. 21.,, with thirty- six passengers, all on their way to work at the Gould Coupler plant and; the New York Car Wheel works in Depew, left the city limits at Genesee street at 6:20 o'clock. The car reached the curve. a thirty- degree turn,'-twenty minutes later;wlth i t s brakes set and power off, according to the motorman. The company had issued rues for all motormen to sow down and have their power under con- trol at this curve, considered most dan- gerous of all points on the line. But the rails were sippery and the car left them, the body parting fro the trucks. The trucks remained up- right beside the car line. The car body got momentum from the raised tracks, which are three feet above ground level at this particular curve,, ad went whirling into two tele- grap hpoles fifty feet away. Both were snapped off clean and a sub support- ing pole spintered. The otorman, Michael Mucha, was still in his vestibule when the car smashed into the teleraph oles and his escape is considered miraculous. He received mminor injuries to his right hand and forehead while the conduc- tor,, Leo Siwinski, was injured in the left hip and left leg. Both live in De- pew. There is a danger ight at the curve, wich ordinarily can be seen at a distance, but the heavy fog made it indistinct Dr. R.L.Stratton of Depew was quickly on the scene of the accident. He gave the men first aid. A second trolley car arrived a few minutes later. The wunded men were put in this and taken to the ciity line where the am- bulances had been summoned. The three victims were horribly crushed beneath a heap of wreckage. When the bodies of Smith and Brunner were removed from beneath the debris with the aid of jacks, life was extinct. They were sent to the morgue by Deputy Medical Examiner Cook. The second trolley car, in which the wounded were taken to the hospitals and home, was in chare of J. Mc Nichols,, motorman, and Albert Martin, conductor. Both ive in Depew. Traf- fic was tied up for three hours. Superintendent's Statement The general supintendent of the Buffalo & Depew can find no reason for the disaster. The company will make a thorough investigation, he says.. "It looks llike one of those deviish mishaps which one sometimes meets in forty-six years of railroading," he stated last night. "We instruct all our men to slow down when they go down grade or make a sharp turn. All signs show that Mucha did this. "The track was in excellent condi- tion at this point. It was brought upp to the mark with new ballast last summer "The car trucks of No. 21 were in first class shape. A New York public service commission expert examined track and trucks today and seemed satisfied that the disaster was due to neither. "The only mark on the trucks after the accident was one broken casting. Contact with the frozen ground after the wreck snapped it. "Mucha is a highlly efficient man and temperate. He slept in our car barn last night. I frequently rode on his car and found him invarably a man in perfect control of his car. Our in- structions specifically state that mo- tormen must slow down at down grades and have their car under the most perfect control. An examination of the motor after the accident showed that Mucha had the brakes set." | BRUNNER, Jacob C (I178637)
