5052 | Charles J. Keith, of the Town of Wheatfield, passed from this earthly life on Tuesday November 17, 2015 at his home with his loving family at his side while under care of Niagara Hospice. He was born in Altoona, PA, on May 10, 1920, a son of the late Charles Alvin & Mary Ellen (Bowery) Keith. Following his graduation he entered the United States Navy and served with the Seabees during World War II and was honorably discharged in August of 1946. Mr. Keith was employed and retired as a machinist with the Union Carbide Company. He also enjoyed helping to operate his late wife, Edith’s Ceramics business out of their home for 23 years until it’s closing in 1998. He was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church. Both he and his late wife, Edith, were avid bowlers and bowled on many individual and mixed couples leagues at both Beverly Lanes and the Rapids Bowling Alley. Golfing was also a passion he enjoyed both by playing and watching it on TV. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Wheatfield Post # 1451. Survivors include his children: Charles (Wanda) Keith and Randy (Chym) Keith of Florida and Darlene Rosenbaum of Arizonia. siblings: Orlen Keith, Donald Keith, Roxie Dillen, Raymond Keith, Norma Jean Gulla and Carol Ott, 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 5053 | Charles Kenneth Schmidt, 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 23, 2022. Known to many as Charlie, Chuck, Crackers or Schmitty. He will be remembered for his smile and jokes. Charlie was a life-long member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Bergholz, where he served as Vice-President, Treasurer, Choir Director, and Sunday School teacher. Charlie was the former co-owner and operator of Bergholz Garage, and former owner of Kroening's Garage, in Sanborn. He was also a member of the Bergholz Fire Company, where he was a former chief, and a former EMT with Tri-Community Ambulance Service, Inc. Charlie was the son of the late Harold and Jeanette M. Schmidt. Step-son of Jean Schmidt. Sweetie to his wife of 42 years, Laurie (nee Sprenger); Dad to his two children, Wayne (Molly) and Jeanette; Grampa to his two grandchildren, Maxx and Layla; brother to his three siblings, Dennis (Laurie), Larry (Lori), and Kathy (Leighton) Harrison, and step-brother to Lori (Brian) Burgin and Scott Nestler. 5054 | Charles Leo Pendergast "Chuck", age 90 of Sanborn, NY, was called to his heavenly home on March 7, 2023 at Buffalo General Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on February 4, 1933; son of the late William and Martha (Keller) Pendergast. He graduated from Trott Vocationa High School, and later became a Yardmaster on the former Niagara Junction Railroad and Conrail. Chuck retired in 1991 after 38 years. He was an union member with U.T.U., Yardmasters of America, and B.R.A.C.; serving as a union general chairman during his tenure. 5055 | Charles Llewellyn Horton Charles Llewellyn Horton of 2204 Ontario Ave. died Saturday (Nov. 6, 1982) - his 76th birthday - in Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Newfane, Horton came to Niagara Falls in 1905. He was owner-operator of Horton's Falls Dairy for many years, retiring in 1972. The dairy was started by his father and mother, the late Charles T. and Rose Horton. He was a life member of BPO Elks 346 and the American Legion John J. Welch post. Horton is survived by his wife Marian Lilley Horton; one daughter, Mrs. Douglas B. (Susan) Walck; and three grandchildren, all of Niagara Falls. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 1124 Ontario Ave., with the Rev. Herbert Maxwell of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. 5056 | Charles Louis Roepke, 86, of Albany entered into rest Tuesday at Gateway Gardens in Eugene. He was born in Strafford, Mo., the son of Agustive F. and Hedwig A. (Hunholtz) Roepke.He was raised in Missouri and married Edith Cooksey in Springfield, Mo., on June 25, 1941. During World War II, the Roepkes moved with their toddler son to San Diego, Calif., where their two girls were born. In 1950 the family moved to the Knox Butte area and bought their home of over 50 years.Charles pastored the Wren Community Church for a while in the 1950s. He worked for 30-plus years for Willamette Industries, retiring in 1981. He very much enjoyed working in his gardens and raising his cows. He will be remembered as a godly man who shared his faith everywhere he went.He is survived by son Charles M. Chuck was born on August 31, 1962, in Grants, New Mexico, the son of the late Charles N. Sr. and Margaret (nee Rainer) Pike. Charles married the former Tina M. Woolson on September 3, 2001 while on a Princess Cruise in the Bahamas. He worked for Sumitomo Rubber in Tonawanda for 23 years. Chuck loved motorsports, ranging from NASCAR to riding his ATV or snowmobile through Byrn Cliff in Varysburg, NY and Old Forge, NY and Tall Pines in Pennsylvania. He was a die hard Buffalo Bills fan, always rooting for his team. Chuck would light up the room while always offering a joke and being the jokester. He loved to spend time with his family, while making memories that will last forever. He loved his dogs, preferably Boston's and Bullies, and would love to go to the dog shows.Mr. Pike is survived by his beloved wife Tina; loving daughter Ashley E. Charles was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and attended local schools. Following high school, he worked in housekeeping at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and retired after fifty years. Charles was an avid sports fan and loved the Yankees and the Buffalo Bills. Most of all, he brought Joy to his family and friends. 5059 | Charles Ray Corwin, III, passed unexpectedly on December 28, at the age of 63. He was born on July 21, 1953 to Charles and Theresa Corwin in Ransomville, NY. He graduated from Lewiston Porter in 1971 and joined as a member of the National Guard. He was employed with the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission since August of 1974, where he was a Toll Captain until his passing. Chuck was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying kayaking and hunting with his lifelong best friend, Tom White of Wilson. Chuck was predeceased by his father, Charles Ray Corwin; and his baby sister, Mary Ailene Corwin. He enjoyed camping and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Charles also enjoyed Native American History. Charles loved his family and their family dog "Dolly" and grand dogs. 5063 | Charles W. ‘Chuck’ Nickles, III, 57, passed away on January 2, 2021 in Buffalo, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Jill (nee Sisler) Nickles (Big John) and the late Charles W. Nickles, Jr. Chuck graduated from LaSalle High School. He was a member of the United States Navy from 1982 until his honorable discharge in 1988, serving as a holesnipe. He was employed as Superintendent of the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center in Niagara Falls, NY for 7 years. He enjoyed building computers, and consulted with Microsoft and the FBI, serving as a member of the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team. In conjunction with his friend, Scot, Chuck ran the International Soldier Alliance gaming community with thousands of gamers from over a dozen different countries and throughout the entire US. Chuck was extremely proud of the fact he safely drove a Semi cross country for over 9 years resulting in a million miles plus. He was a member of the Kingsman Bowling League, the Brother Groundhogs and the Bills Mafia. He loved sailing on his 26-foot sailboat in Chautauqua Lake. Above all, he cherished his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. 5064 | Charles was born in Buffalo Erie Co., N.Y., the only son of Charles Edward and Mary Flynn Buckner on May 15, 1931. His mother; Mary B. Flynn was the daughter of Patrick J. and Mary R. Flynn of Buffalo, Erie, Co., N.Y., and Charles, Sr, was the son of Edward and Mary Pearl Wood Buckner of Medina, Orleans Co., N.Y. Right after his parents were married, they moved in with the his Mother's cousins, Mr. & Mrs. Harold E. & Elizabeth Barney at 344 DeWitt St., Buffalo, N.Y. While his Father worked in construction, his Mother soon found herself expecting their first child, which would be Charles. Unfortunately, fate dealt a cruel blow when a on the job accident took Charles, Sr.'s life in the spring of 1931. Family lore explains that a "sewer tile" rolled down upon him in a hole, killing him instantly. No obituary or newspaper report has been located to date, other than a note in "The Medina Daily Journal" on March 03, 1931 stating that his Father's Sister (Mildred Buckner Hellert) had been called to Buffalo over the previous weekend due to his death. 5065 | Charles was born in Kirksville, Missouri. Later, he moved to the Kansas City area. Charles and his younger brother, Joseph, pursued careers in the metal works area as tinners, turners or proprietors of hardware or metal works businesses. Coincidentally, their cousins, children of their Aunt Louise Schwenk Timmer who also lived in Kansas City, were engaged in similar businesses. He married Louisa Cordes on February 28, 1904. They had four children, one died as an infant. Louisa was just 53 years old when she passed away at her home at 1809 Northern, Independence, Mo. Louisa died in 1935 at the age of 53. When he was 61, Charles married Christie Inez Hartley, 47 years old, on January 17, 1942 in Maywood Baptist Church. They had no children together. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Michael and Grace (Raimondi) Gugenti. Chuck was raised in Niagara Falls where he attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Air Force, he began working at the former Vanadium in Niagara Falls. Chuck later retired from the New York Power Authority as an electrician after many years. Chuck was a member of the I.S.D.A Power City Lodge and the Cristoforo Colombo Society. He enjoyed garage saling, playing poker with his friends, scratching lottery tickets, as well as traveling to Las Vegas. He was also a passionate fan of the New York Yankees and the Buffalo Bills. Above all, Charles loved spending time with his family. Mr. Guagenti is survived by his step-children, Nelson (Diane) Linza and Marilyn Delahoy; his beloved caregivers: his niece, Joan (Kevin) Howes and his great-nephews, Matthew and Kyle Howes. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. 5067 | Charlotte Louise (McLoughlin) Brittin, age 94, a life-long resident of Lockport, NY, passed away in her sleep on October 11, 2019, in Lockport, NY. Charlotte was born on August 30, 1925 in Lockport, NY, to William and Laura McLoughlin. Charlotte attended Lockport Senior High School before meeting her husband Arthur R. Brittin. Art and Charlotte were married at St. Patrick's Church, Lockport, NY, on April 17, 1948. After the wedding, the young couple built their home on Outwater Drive where Charlotte lived until 2013 (Charlotte lived in Lockport's "North-End" for 86 years). She was employed as a matron with the Niagara County Sheriff's Department. Charlotte was a life-long member of St. Patrick's (All Saints) Catholic Church. She was also an active member of the knitting group at St. John's. Charlotte was predeceased by her parents, William McLoughlin and Laura (Flashaar) McLoughlin; her husband, Arthur R. 5070 | Charlotte R. (Dawson) Mazur of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully under the care of Niagara Hospice on Sunday, August 12, 2018. Born in Branchville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Josiah and Alma Browning Dawson. Charlotte was a graduate of Lower Richland High School, Class of 1942. After high school, she worked in the PX at Fort Jackson in Columbia SC, where she met her first husband, Anthony Vekich, Sr.. After World War II, Charlotte moved to Niagara Falls with her family. In the 1960s, Charlotte worked at the Dolly Madison bakery on Buffalo Avenue. In July 1965, she married her second husband, Walter E. Mazur, Jr., who predeceased her on July 14, 2001. Charlotte was a woman of many interests. She enjoyed crocheting, music, reading, puzzles and word finds, bowling and bingo. She also spent many hours tuned to Judge Judy and a variety of other court TV shows. Most of all, Charlotte was dedicated to her family. Despite being burdened with many hardships throughout her life, she always persevered. Her drive and determination led her to become the consummate mom, always busy cooking, cleaning, gardening, doing home repairs etc. to provide the best life possible for her children. She was a true go-getter and was always involved in the lives of those she loved. In her later years, she transitioned from "hands-on" to more of a "supervisory" role around the house; nonetheless, she always strived to make that house a home. To say that Charlotte was a wonderful person would be a tremendous understatement. She was truly a fun person to be around with a smile and laugh that could light up any room. While she could be tough and demanding to those around her, it was always done with the goal of making you the best that you could be. Charlotte's kindness, caring and love will be forever cherished and sadly missed by everyone who knew her. We were all lucky to have her. Charlotte is survived by her children Anthony (Roxann) Vekich, Jr., Charlene Vekich, Steven Vekich and Christopher (Allicia) Mazur. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Bridget (Richard) Cadwalader; Anthony (Daniella) Vekich, III; Shawn (Rhonda) Vekich; Amanda (Cliff) Cobb; Brianna (Greg) Bonnette; Chandra Vekich-Fitzsimmons and Lucas Mazur, along with 16 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Charlotte is also survived by her sister, Betty R. Briggs of Lone Star, SC as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Charlotte was predeceased by her brothers Joseph, J.B. and Francis Dawson. She was a Licensed Associate Real Estate Broker, member of Greater Rochester Association of Realtors and has earned several designations including ERA Top Gun Academy; Accredited Buyer's Representative; Graduate, Realtor Institute; Council of Residential Specialists and the ePRO Technology Certification Program. 5076 | Cherry Hill - Doris J. DeVantier, age 84, of Cherry Hill passed away after a short illness on December 5, 2017. She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Roger DeVantier for 62 years. Doris was born in Niagara Falls, NY the first child of the late Clarence and Esther Wittkopp. Doris and Roger moved to Cherry Hill in 1957. After passionately raising four children (some required more effort than others), she decided to return to school and earned her diploma as a licensed practical nurse. She helped numerous patients in the Delaware Valley. She was a charter member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church where she was active and energetic in the life of the church until her death. Doris enjoyed knitting, sewing, ceramics, choir singing, and travel. Most of all she was devoted to her family. Roger and Doris especially cherished the annual vacations at Sea Isle City, NJ. They educated us about God's most incredible gift - our Family. Her amazingly strong character taught us lessons that are being passed down to multiple generations through her children and grandchildren. Her last few years of life were challenged by numerous physical and emotional heartaches. She faced all of them with a positive attitude, grace, and exceptional strength that are a true inspiration to all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband Roger, daughter Joyce White and son Mark DeVantier. She enjoyed going out to eat, spending time at Tim Horton’s, shopping, as well as long rides in the car. She was devoted to her Christian faith and loved going to church. Cher, as she was affectionately known by many, was a graduate of LaSalle Senior High School in 1963 and attended Cheryl Fells School of Business. She was employed at Bell Aerospace and Hooker Chemical. Most recently, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Niagara County Health Department in Niagara Falls, NY until her retirement in 2007. On January 1, 1990, she married James A. Gatto in Niagara Falls. Mr. Gatto predeceased her on October 30, 2008 after 18 years of marriage. Cheryl was a member of the Moose Lodge and the 3-F Club, both in Lewiston, NY. She loved her home and taking care of her yard, and enjoyed spending summers at Cuddy’s Pine Cove in North Frontenac, ON, Canada with family and friends. A thoughtful and kind friend and confidant to many, Cher loved to socialize and be around others. She especially enjoyed playing cards with her daughter, granddaughters, and beloved friend, Linda Hardison. Born in North Tonawanda on March 10, 1957 to Warren and Shirley (Krueger) Allen. After graduating from North Tonawanda High School, she studied at Canisius College. Cheryl married her neighborhood sweetheart, Robert McCall, Jr. on October 1, 1977 and worked in the insurance industry at Hartford and Cigna for several years, until her children Matt and Todd were born. She put career aside to become a dedicated homemaker; and lovingly provided day care for her sister and brother's children as well. Cheryl dearly loved all the children and frequently volunteered for school activities and field trips. Working together, Cheryl and Rob led the Northtown Soccer Club for many years. Cheryl loved her many family pets over the years and cared for them like they were her children. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, Allegany, and family gatherings. Cheryl also enjoyed working out at the gym with her trainer Rick, and the many friends she met there. Cheryl was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, where she volunteered to teach Sunday School, and led the youth group. Her Bible verse to live by was from Deuteronomy 6:5 - "Love the Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength". She lived out her faith with family, friends, and even strangers. You could tell by the joy she brought to others when she was around. In addition to her husband, Robert McCall, Jr. and sons Matthew (Julie) McCall and Todd McCall; she is survived by her mother, Shirley Allen; sister, Kathy (Laird) Burkett; brother, Gilbert Allen; brother in law, Ken McCall; niece, Jen (Jason) Gallo and their children Ethan and Emma; and nephews, Dan Allen Josh (Liz) Burkett, and Larry Burkett. 5083 | Cheryl Lynn Bowers-Lillybridge was born in Newfane to Richard and Carol Bowers who raised her along with her brothers Jeff and Alan. As a child, Cheryl loved horses. In her early forties her childhood dream came true as she found her first horse and would spend the next several years enjoying this passion. In 1985, Cheryl joined the military where she met a special man, named Damon, in Europe. They were married in Denmark and from there Cheryl would spend the rest of her life loving Damon and he loving her. In 1982 Cheryl graduated from Royhart High School and in 1988 would graduate with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from D'Youville University. She became an extraordinary nurse who will be remembered by many as she helped deliver their babies, provided guidance to mothers in their homes, and gave high quality care to those in the wound clinic. One of Cheryl's joys was being a mother to Shauni, Cara and Damon Jr. Cheryl found tremendous purpose in being with her grandchildren, Lilly and Molly. 5084 | Cheryl Ruth Dane, age 76, passed away on July 3,2020 at Schoellkopf Health Center where she resided since 2014. Cheryl was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on January 20, 1944. Cheryl had Multiple Sclerosis since she was 18 years old. MS never hindered her positive attitude in the least. Befriending everyone she ever met, greeting them with her beaming smile, she was cheerful and fun, a kind and loving soul. She loved people. Cheryl even wrote letters to politicians advocating for those fellow patients in her nursing home. Her bulletin board was brimming with pictures of children and family. She had many lifelong friends and she was very fond of her family, being especially proud of her son, Matthew. Her good friend, Eloise Hamilton, was always there for her. Cheryl is survived by her son, Matthew Dane (Thonotasassa, FL); a sister, Dorothy Dane Swick (Niagara Wheatfield); a sister-in-law, Joanne (Roger) Dane (Williamsville); many nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, Leslie Achilles Dane, Sr. and Ruth May Bolton Dane; her brothers, Richard (Pauline) Dane, Leslie A. (Betty) Dane, Jr., and Roger Dane. 5090 | Chester S. Buchalski, 86, of Gasport, NY, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life on Sunday, February 4, 2018 in Sisters of Charity Hospital. Born on August 26, 1931 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Stephen and Felicia (Nicpon) Buchalski. Mr. Buchalski was raised and spent most of his life in Niagara Falls, until he recently moved to Gasport. Chester served in the National Gaurd from 1947 until he enlisted in the United States Navy on June 7, 1949, during the Korean War, stationed aboard the USS Bronson and was honorably discharged on March 13, 1953. He was employed and retired from Carborundum, which later became Washington Mills, as a forklift operator. Mr. Buchalski was a communicant of the former Holy Trinity Church in Niagara Falls as well as Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Barker. Chester was a longtime member of the American Legion Portage Post #1465 and also served as an auxiliary police officer. He enjoyed having coffee regularly with his fellow retirees from Carborundum, walking and reading. Mr. Buchalski is survived by his children, Christopher (Linda) Buchalski, Theresa (late Brian) (John) Tracz-King, Lorraine (late Wayne) Parker, Victor (Jenn) Buchalski and Cindy (David) Andrews; grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) Tracz, Lisa Fritz, Adam Fritz, Victor A. 5094 | Chief Master Sargent Warren Reginald Williamson, 87, died peacefully with his family by his side in his home in Amissville, Virginia during the late hours of June 13th 2017. Warren grew up in Lewiston, NY and resided there until 1948 after enlisting in the United States Air Force. While active duty, he was stationed in Japan, Okinawa and Pakistan. After finishing his tours of duty overseas, Warren worked for the Department of Defense under the Joint Chiefs of Staff until he retired in 1973. He was most proud of the time he spent serving our country. In his spare time, Warren enjoyed landscaping and was also an active member of the Virginia Cooperative Extension of the Master Gardeners. He is most remembered for his sense of humor, sharp wit, and intellect. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maude and Reginald Williamson; his son, Wayne Williamson; brothers, William Williamson and Gordon Williamson. 5098 | Chittenango NY Madison County Times - 11/10/1916 A very pretty wedding was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Olmstead in Chittenango Wednesday evening, November 8, 1916, at 8 o'clock, . when their daughter, Blanche Ethel, and Mr. Robert W. Bender were united in marriage. The ceremony was performed by Rev. L. H. Pearce and the ring service was used. While the ceremony was being performed "Oh Promise Me" was sang by Miss Fannie Walrath. The bride's gown was of white China silk with pearl trimmings. She fore a wreath of orange blossoms and pearls in her hair. The bride and bridegroom were attended by Miss Anna Bender and Mr. Morton Bender, brother and sister of the bridegroom, and Mr. and Mrs. Dwight L. Kinney, she being sister of the bride. Miss Ethel Thayer, a niece of the bride, was ring bearer, carrying the ring on a white satin pillow. Miss Amy Corp of Chittenango played the wedding march. The house was decorated with cedar and white garlands, dark green and white being the colors. An arch was built of cedar and a white wedding bell hung in the center. Following the ceremony a reception was held and Mr. and Mrs. Bender then left amid the best wishes of their friends for the East, where they will visit friends and relatives in Gloversville. 5100 | Chittenango NY Madison County Times - 12/7/1945 Elton T. Niles died suddenly last Friday. He was born September 3, 1882 at Stanwix, a son of Jasper R. and Elizabeth Aiman Niles. He was educated in the Niles District school No. 5 of Rome. He married Anna J. Bender at Chittenango Station, August 20', 1925. She survives, with two daughters, Ella Mae and Gladys, both at home; a sister, Harriet Miller of Holland Patent, and a brother, Charles Niles of Whitelaw. Funeral services were held at his late home Monday afternoon, Rev. A. N. Peckham pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial was made in Oakwood cemetery. Bearers were John Niles, Foster Niles, Floyd Niles, Edwin Jaquin, Robert Carpenter and Raymond Steding. | NILES, Elton T (I138547)
