Bud served in the US Army in 1951 during the Korean Conflict. He retired from GM Powertrain in Tonawanda in 1989, after working for 35 years in security. Bud is predeceased by his wife, Suzanne (Easton) Dietz, who passed away on May 26, 2014; and his sons, Michael and Christopher; his daughter, Cynthia; and his sister, Gloria Chaffee. Bud is survived by his daughters, Paula (Barry) Jones and Sheryl (Peter) Underhill; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Claude served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947.He worked for Simonds Saw and Steel for 34 years retiring in 1982. Claude married Vera H. Bassler on July 15, 1950 and he was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 873. 5153 | CLAUDETTE MARIE LEMIEUX, age 50 of the Town of Lockport, NY, was called to her heavenly home on August 12, 2020 at the Buffalo General Medical Center. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on February 19, 1970; daughter of Robert and Martha (Grawe) Darlak. Claudette earned her Masters Degree in teaching, and was employed as a Kindergarten teacher, in the Starpoint Central School District. She attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, her number "1" hobby was watching her kids play their many sports games and tournaments, enjoyed coaching softball, and the quality time spent with family while traveling, shopping and camping. Survivors include her loving husband, Marlin Andre Lemieux. They were married April 3, 1993; three children, Dalton (Christina) Lemieux, Hunter Lemieux and Lynnea Lemieux; Her mother "Marty"; a sister, Geanette (Joel) Prohaska; brother, Glen (Jody) Darlak; and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Darlak. Claudette was sometimes called Mama Claud by her many extra kids (friends of her children, players on teams, etc.) and Mayor, because you never went anywhere without running into someone who knew her. 5154 | Claudia B. Kujawa, nee Britt, of Medina, passed away on January 27, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a valiant fight with cancer. Claudia was born in Medina, June 19, 1941, the only child of Claude Seth and Ruth Pearl (Swab) Britt. She graduated salutatorian from Albion High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Buffalo. From 1963-65, Claudia worked at Cornell Aeronautical Laboratories, a contractor for NASA. She was employed as a Manager in Telecommunications by Eastman Kodak Company from 1966-92. Having been outsourced, she took an early retirement from Eastman Kodak Company to raise Andrea, her late in-life child. She was a single parent, a loving and nurturing mother. She was a member of Pi Mu Epsilon Fraternity, National Honorary Mathematics Fraternity. Claudia volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, at Towne Elementary School, and at a local food bank. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, travel, reading, crossword puzzles, gambling and spending time with friends. She was a member of the Middleport and Johnson Creek Senior Citizens groups. Survivors include her daughter, Andrea; several nieces and nephews including Joseph (Barbara) Kujawa. She was predeceased by Andrea’s father, James Kujawa. A graveside committal service will be held in the spring at the Britt family plot in Millville Cemetery where she will be interred with her parents. 5160 | CLIFFORD - Sharon R. "Sherry" (nee Kornaker) Age 83, passed away peacefully under the care of hospice on Sunday, March 05, 2023 at her home in Mesa, Arizona. She was born in North Tonawanda on September 09, 1939 to Joseph and Marie Kornaker. Sherry was a skilled roller skater and during her teen and preteen years could often be found at local rinks. She worked in the hours after school at Jones Florist on Payne Avenue where she developed her affinity for working with her hands and a lasting fondness for Mrs. Meyers, the proprietor. After graduating from North Tonawanda High School in 1957 where she was a proud member of the cheer leading squad, she received a teaching degree at Buffalo State College. She taught in various area schools for a brief time before deciding, on a whim, to visit friends in New York City. She ended up staying and working there where she met and married her future husband, Francis (Frank) Clifford, in 1963. Frank and Sherry lived and raised a family in various parts of the Country before settling in Arizona in the mid 90's. Sherry enjoyed reading and crocheting, both often accomplished with her beloved cat, Eko, at her side. She crocheted whatever could be crocheted or held together with crochet and kept everyone she knew supplied with pot holders and oven towels. Sherry will be remembered by family and friends for her quirky sense of humor, coupon cutting and thriftiness, and amazing fortitude in facing illness and loss. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Clifford; daughter, Colleen Clifford and son, Jeremiah Clifford. Cliff started his life of servanthood by attending Concordia College (Bronxville and River Forest) graduating in 1970 with a degree in Education. Christian Education was His Business…He had a huge heart for Christian education. Cliff married his partner in love and service Lynne (Binkley) on August 1st, 1970. He began his teaching career at Martin Luther Christian School in New Jersey. Cliff and Lynne continued their journey at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School in North Tonawanda, New York. While at St. Matthew, Cliff served as a teacher for many years and eventually became Principal. The servant journey continued at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Hilton, New York where he served as Principal. Cliff’s heart for service did not end with retirement. He continued to serve his Lord in any and every capacity he could until his final days. Cliff had a lifelong passion for sports. He played, coached and officiated for many years impacting the lives of all he interacted with along the way. Cliff loved his grandchildren, watching them play and perform, golfing with his boys, wood working, gardening, and finding garage sale treasures with Lynne. 5167 | Clinton (Sam) Hermanson SANBORN - Clinton (Sam) Hermanson, 61, of 5791 Buffalo St., former Niagara County highway superintendent, died today (April 5, 1979) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after an apparent heart attack. He was a member of a pioneer Sanborn family and was the son of the late LeRoy and Helen Sanborn Hermanson. He had served during World War II with the U.S. Army in the Pacific and had been employed by the Niagara County Highway Department since 1945. He retired as highway superintendent in 1977 and had served as the second Niagara County fire coordinator from 1964 until 1969. He was a life member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. and had served as chief from 1958 to 1959. He was president of the fire company in 1962 and had served for many years as band manager. He was a member of the Western New York Fire Chief's Association, the Niagara County Volunteer Firemen's Association, and the Niagara County Police and Judges Association and the Niagara and Erie County Planning Board, and was past commander of the Sanborn American Legion Post 969. He is survived by his wife, Hilda Strasburg Hermanson; two brothers, Charles W. Hermanson of Sanborn and Clair D. Hermanson of Watkins Glen, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Irene) Carico of Hubert, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gordon L. Hermanson. Funeral services will be held at the Rhoney Funeral Home, Saturday at 1 p.m.. with the Rev. Kenneth E. Traxler officiating. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery. 5168 | Clinton Brockway, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020, at his residence in Niagara Falls. Born in Brookville, PA, he was the son of the late Millard and Elsie (Thompson) Brockway; and husband of the late Petrina “Pat” Brockway, whom he married on May 15, 1948 at the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Cliff moved to Niagara Falls as a teenager and attended local schools. He enlisted into the United States Army during World War II on September 13, 1943, and served overseas for fourteen months in England and France in the European Theater of Operations, and eight months on Okinawa in the Pacific until his honorable discharge on March 11, 1946. He continued to serve his country in the National Guard until his second honorable discharge on March 10, 1949. Mr. Brockway was employed as an Electro-Mechanical Technician at Bell Aircraft for many years prior to his retirement. He was also a gifted photographer and owned and operated B & W Photography. Cliff was a 20 year member of the New York Professional Photography Association. He competed in many roller-skating competitions with his wife and also received many awards for his 1927 Ford Model T which he restored. Mr. Brockway was a talented craftsman and enjoyed making and repairing almost anything. He also took great pride in handcrafting furniture, especially his living room pieces and grandfather clocks. In addition to his wife, Mr. Brockway was predeceased by his son David (Mary) Brockway. He is survived by his granddaughter, Sherry (Zech) Brockway-VanDermeer; his great-grandson, Benjamin, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank (Rose) Micale, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jay Street, Rome, was killed Thursday, Nov. 15, when his^car collided with the tractor part of a tractor-trailer on the Rome-Oriskany Road, two miles east of Stanwix. The victim, who was Oneida County's 25th traffic fatality this year, was alone in his 1949 twodoor sedan, as it headed east towards Oriskany about 11:00 p.m. Thursday night. Deputy Sheriffs Donald ,Tulley and Stanley Kolasz said the mishap with the vehicle driven by Thomas Campbell, 37, of 329 Middler Ave., Syracuse, occurred on an upgrade and that the Smith car was on the wrong side of the road. According to their report, the victim's auto crossed ihe highway and struck the tractor-truck just back of" the cab towards the rear wheels, then continued past the point of impact 217 feet, and In so doing recrossed the highway. It stopped on the."road's south shoulder. The 'westbound truck went 191 feet following" the collision. Its drive shaft was found 50 feet from the point-of impact and rear wheels, also torn loose, were found 134 feet from the same spot Campbell, who' was driving a 1955 machine belonging to General Expressway, Syracuse, was taken to Rome Hospital, where he was reported in good condition. Mr. Smith was born in Oriskany on Feb. 5, 1925, son of William and Theresa Beasock Smith. He was educated in Oriskany Central School and served during World War H in. France and Wales for two and a half years. On September 6, 1947 in St Peter's Church in Oriskany, he married the former ElnoraA. Colp, who survives. He had resided in Oriskany, where he was employed by the Oriskany Malleable Iron Works since 1941, and moved to Rome four years ago. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oriskany. Surviving besides his wife are his parents in Oriskany, and his grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beasock. North Tonawanda, N. Y.; two sons, Charles E. and Everett W. Smith. Webster of Batavia, has been engaged by the widow to close the estate of Pierson E. Tooker, formerly of Batavia and before his death station agent at Long wood. Tooker was 54 years old and besides his wife, is survived by eight children. The chie/ trouble will be to realize on Mr. Tooker's estate, which is all personal property, in the shape of high-powered rifles and revolvers, of which he had 175 at the time of his death. There are 75 revolvers. There are modern rifles that will kill. at a distance of over a mile and fine 44 caliber Colt revolvers. It is estimated that the arms are worth over $2,000. while Tooker left his family almost penniless. Tooker bad a mania for collecting firearms. All were kept In perfec; condition, oiled and polished and a record kept In a book of the condition of the arms. He was once arrested on suspicion that he had stolen the large supply of new firearms and, after the case against him was dropped, he brought suit for defamation of character and was awarded a verdict of $1,500. Tooker, familiarly known here as "Birdie" Tooker, has been engaged In car robbery operations on a large scale at Longwood near Corfu. Tooker was placed under arrest on Tuesday afler noon on a charge, of robbing the cars of the New. York Central railroad. Enough miscellaneous material was found on ;his farm to stock a department store. The railroad detectives searched the Tooker premises and found cases of stationery, boots and shoes, a large number of rifles, shot guns and revolvers, perfumery, soaps and a large amount of miscellaneous merchandise. There was also found a number of car seals and a Sealer and the railway officials are of the opinion that Tooker broke open the cars ami after taking what suited his fancy resealed, the cars again. Tooker is. 45 years old and was born in this city, living at the corrner ot Fairfield Avenue and Tenth Street the greater part of his life, He was a telegraph operator and for a time worked In the employment of the Michigan Central railroad on the Canadian side of the river. He had operated the family dairy farm for most of his life, he also was a heavy equipment operator and would work for area contractors. He was a member of the Agriculture Stabilization Committee of Niagara County for several years. Clyde was an exempt member of the Sanborn Fire Company and had also served as a Town Constable for the Town of Lewiston for many years. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the former Sanborn Bowling League. Clyde was an avid golfer, and would winter in Florida, during which time he would work at the Disney World Golf Pro Shop, and as a Tee Off starter for the course. He was predeceased by his first wife Maurine Bruss Kroening who died in 1986. Surviving is his wife of 15 years, Linda G. Act- ual date of their anniversary was July 7, at which time the Ladies' Aid, having their annual picnic- dinner, honored the celebrants with an anniversary cake, baked by Mrs. Victor Fleishman and singing greeting to them. The celebration began on Sun- day with a festive dinner in the St. Paul's Church parlors, prepary| ed by Mrs. John Schumacher, and assisted by Mrs. Walter Sick and Mrs. Otto Sick. The celebrants were surrounded by all but one of their children and their families. Lieutenant Commander and Mrs. Robert P. Buerger and daughters, Paula and Cynthia, who recently completed a tour of duty at thai naval base in Corpus Christi, Tex., and is en route to a new Assign- ment at the Boston Navy Yard, where he will be aboard the USS Carrier Wasp, arrived on Satur- day, as did Mr. and 'Mrs. Lee D. Morehouse and children, Gary Mark, Criag and Amy, from Shar- on, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ploetz, and daughter Sandra and Barbara, from West Valley, N. Y. All these were at the table, togeth- er with sisters of Pastor Buerger, Mrs. Ted Berymark and her hus- band, and Mrs. Robert Bleasdale, and her daughter, Mrs. Stanley Mo- lenda and daughter Pamela, all of Buffalo, N. Y., and Mrs. Buerger's brother, Mr. Edlward Secore, and her niece, Mrs. Packard Stanton, both of Pittsburg, Pa. and Rev. and Mrs. H. W. Sander, of Little Val- ley; Rev. Sander gave the invoca- tion. The celebration was climaxed by, a reception in the Church Parlora in the evening, to which the en- tire congregation, was invited. The evening was opened with some brief remarks by the Rev. H. W. Sander, of Little Valley, N. Y., a long-time friend of Pastor Buerg- er, who, with his wife came for the festivities. Thereupon an en- tertainment committee took over, and presented a sketch of the lives of the celebrants in a most interesting manner, livened by scenes from their life cast on the screen by an opaque projector. The Committee consisted of Mesdames Nick Deleo, Theodore Mattlce, Lai verne Sick and Gratton Wallace. The President of the congregation, Mr. Lewis Zeh, extended congratu- lations in behalf of the congrega- tion, and presented the couple with a "Statolounger" chair. Refresh- ments were then served to over 100 guests by the refreshment com mittec, composed of Mesdames Roland Drum, Victor Fleishman, and Walter Drum. 5196 | Cohocton NY Valley Times Index 1940-1942 Hiram Ketch, died at his farm borne at Bath Monday, July 22, at the age of 83. His funeral was held at his late home Thursday, with burial in Nondaga cemetery. The Rev. P. E. Greenwalt, protestant chaplain at the Veterans Facility, conducted the funeral. Hiram Ketch was born in Cohocton, March 5, 1857, the son of Cyrus and Mary VanHousen Ketch. He attended the Naples High School and after graduation taught for some years. He was endowed with a remarkable understanding of the science of numbers, and retained an almost unbelieveable memory of dates. In arithmetic he was a prodigy, especially in addition and multiplication. Mr. Ketch was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist church at Wallace. In his younger years he was a licensed "exhorter" and often conducted church services. He was married Dec. 11, 1878, to Miss Ada Lyke, and two children were born of the union, a son, Lewis Ketch, who owns the farm in what was formerly known as Long well's Lane, north of the Veterans' Facility; and a daughter, Maude, who became the wife of Hibbard Brush, and who died March 1, 1936. 5198 | Col. William George, 64, veteran of 3 wars Col. William G. George, who served as the senior military representative in the State Department, died Sunday from cancer. George, of Deerfield Beach, was 64. Born in Indiana, George began his 33 years of military service with the RAF in Canada. He flew bombing missions over England and served in World II, the Korean War and the Viet Nam War. He retired to Florida from his Washington, D.C., State Department post 11 years ago. He retired as a full colonel after receiving numerous medals. George was a member of the Inverness Elks Club and Tam O'Shanter Golf Club in Pompano Beach. He is survived by his wife, Louise; daughters Mrs. Robert Thomas, of Indianapolis, Inc.l Mrs. Edgar Ward, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; son William G. George II of Deerfield, Ill; and ive grandchildren. Services will be 5:30 tonight at the Kraeer Funeral Home, 1199 Sample Road, Pompano Beach. He will be buried in Indiana.
