5302 | Claire DePrey, 105, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2019, at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital. Born in Green Bay, WI, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Suzanne (Burns) Lesperance. Claire married her beloved husband, Joseph DePrey, on November 10, 1934 in Two Rivers, WI and later moved to Niagara Falls in 1941. Mr. DePrey passed away on September 12, 1983, after 48 loving years together. Claire was employed at the former Jenss Department Store, where she enjoyed socializing with her coworkers and customers. She also enjoyed crocheting, especially blankets for her grandchildren. Above all, Claire’s life was centered around her family who will miss her dearly. Mrs. DePrey is survived by her children, Allen (Mary) DePrey, Darlene (late Nikolaj) Birjukow, James DePrey, Betty (late David) Sayers, Keith (Diane) DePrey, Cheryl (John) Venne and Gail (James) Venne; twenty grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 5304 | Clara M. (Bowman) Hildebrandt, 102, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at her home, under the care of Niagara Hospice, surrounded by her family. Born on June 29, 1917 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was born to the late John E. And Lily A. (Ritenburg) Bowman. Clara was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School and on June 24, 1939, Mrs. Hildebrandt Married Charles P. Hildebrandt in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and was happily married for 58 years until his passing in 1997. Throughout her life, she was a caregiver to many nieces, nephews, neighbors and her aging parents. Clara enjoyed cooking, baking embroidering, playing cards, singing and being with her family. Mrs. Hildebrandt was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the Martha Society, taught Sunday school for many years and worked on the church newsletter. She loved the holidays, entertaining and was well known for her apple pies which she continued to make well into her 90’s. Above all Clara was a loving and giving person. Clara is survived by one daughter, Candace L. (Robert A.) Lauzonis; two grandchildren, John J. (Lynne) Burke and Jen C. Regan; three step-grandchildren, Chris Lauzonis, Nicole (Tom) Wills and Jodie (Joseph) Alm; five great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great nieces and her goddaughter, Ruth (Bleecher) Knack. She was preceded in death by her four brothers; Edgar, Lavern, Charles and Frederick, and two sisters; Zetta and Beatrice. 5305 | CLARA MAE MARTIN Of Newfane, NY, Passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, in Kenmore Mercy Hospital. She was born in the family homestead in Sanborn, NY, on January 1, 1933, the daughter of the late Lionel and Viola [Sanborn] Read. Mrs. Martin graduated from Wilson High School in 1951 and served with the US Navy Reserves from 1951-1953. She was a charter member of the Sanborn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a life member of the Western New York Ladies Auxiliary, the Rebecca Lodge in Sanborn, the American Legion Post 969 Auxiliary, where her mother paid her dues for the legion from the time she was a baby, until she was married. Mrs. Martin bowled in several different leagues for over 20 years and loved taking care of her flower garden and doing crafts. She was the wife of the late Donald F. "Pete" Martin, who died in October of 2014, they were married on October 27, 1951, in the former Sanborn United Methodist Church. Mrs. Martin is survived by four daughters Pamela Clara (late Peter) Treichler, Elizabeth Violia (late Dennis) Lawler, Elena Ruth Martin and Wendy Ann (Randy Wysocki) Martin, granddaughters; Miranda Clara Josker and Jennifer Nicole Wysocki, also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. 5306 | Clara N. (Patterson) Fish, 86, of the Tuscarora Nation passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 after a brief illness surrounded by her family under the care of Niagara Hospice. Clara was born on February 7, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Percy and Eleanor (Chew) Patterson and named after her maternal grandmother. Clara was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. She and her husband, Lawrence W. Fish, met when Clara was 14. They married in 1954 and raised their family in the home they built together, celebrating 65 years of marriage before his passing in 2019. Clara enjoyed hosting parties for her family for any and all occasions. Her sisters and family enjoyed visiting on the front porch when the weather was nice. She always enjoyed walking for exercise, shopping and any time spent with family. She said that raising her family was the happiest time of her life. When her family was young, they spent many summers camping and making lifelong friends. Clara is survived by her children: Loren (Marian) Fish, Sharon Kepp and Nadine (James) Printup, her grandchildren: Mandy, Katie, Jesse, Jill, Alissa, Karrie, Brittany, Dakotah and Shawna, her great-grandchildren: William, Edward, Jill & Graham’s baby-to-be August 2022, Michael, Luc, Larissa, Vincent, Anthony, Skylar, Patience, Grace, Jade, Gabriel, Azrael, Lillian McAleer, Jazlyn and Ethan and great-great grandchildren: Denahi, Dahosyn and Deagan. She was a special mom to Joanie Smith. 5309 | Clara ‘Kat’ Gonyea, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024 in Elderwood at Wheatfield. Born in Logan, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Keck) Curtis.\ Kat moved with her family to Niagara Falls as a child and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On May 15, 1965, she married Kenneth J. Gonyea Sr. and together they raised their four beloved children. Mr. Gonyea passed away January 16, 2016, after 50 memorable years together. Kat enjoyed following her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and extracurricular activities throughout the years. She also loved cooking, tending to her yard, as well as listening to music, especially Elvis. Above all, Kat dedicated her life to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed. Kat is survived by two children, Kenneth J. (Mary) Gonyea Jr., Kim (Marc) Tibbits, and was sadly predeceased by her sons, Jerald Gonyea and Kraig Gonyea. 5310 | Clare “Butch” Ramming passed away March 19, 2024 at Brothers of Mercy Health Care Facility, days after celebrating his 96th birthday. Born March 16, 1928, in Gasport, NY, he was the son of Gordon and Clara (Coulson) Ramming. Butch was a WW II Navy veteran and served on the USS Mansfield. Later in life he served as the Supervisor for the Town of Royalton. He was a co-founder of Tri-Town Ambulance and past fire chief of Gasport Chemical Hose Co. Butch was a member of the Gasport American Legion Post Number 1253 and attended the Zion Lutheran Church. Butch was an excellent baseball and softball catcher who played competitively while in the Navy and later in WNY. He also coached his sons’ Little League teams. Throughout his life, Butch loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time outdoors with family and friends. He relished the opportunity to make others laugh while sharing stories of his many achievements and adventures. Butch enjoyed being of service to others, as demonstrated by his experience in the Navy and contributions to the local community. After retiring, Butch enjoyed many winters with family in Texas. He was predeceased by his wife, Katherine (McCann) Ramming, and daughter, Linda Ramming. Butch is survived by his wife Bernice Ramming; sons Thomas (Teresa), Daniel (Vicki), James (Pat), and John (Cole); six grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and caregiver, Morgan Cooper. 5311 | Clarence "Butch" Fry passed away November 4, 2016 in Eastern Niagara Hospital. Born in Lockport October 1, 1930 he was the son of Burt and Laura (Lederhouse) Fry. Clarence served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 and worked for the Niagara County Highway Department where he was a heavy equipment operator. He was an active volunteer fireman with the Rapids Volunteer Fire Co. for 68 years and enjoyed farming and hunting. 5312 | Clarence A. "Squeaky" Kroening, age 82, of Sanborn, NY, went to be with his Lord on Monday, December 31st, 2007 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, Niagara County, NY. He was born in Town of Wheatfield, on February 26, 1925, to the late Albert E. and Lizzie (Haseley) Kroening. He married his wife, the former Phyllis Walck, on September 7, 1946. Clarence owned the former Sanborn Milling Company, with his partner Erwin Pfohl for 30 years, and later worked for the Niagara County Highway Department as a parts man and truck driver. He served on the Town of Wheatfield Planning Board for 25 years. Clarence also served as treasurer of the former Bergholz Insurance Company. He was a life member of the St. Peters Lutheran Church, where he held various offices. He was very active in the Lutheran Vespers radio program. He was a past secretary of Lutheran Charities where he received the Ralph W. Loew a Award for recognition of service in social ministries of Western New York. For many years he and his wife rented a large truck and filled it with quilts, used clothing, soap and various hats, over 20,000 quilts, 49 tons of material collected from various Lutheran Church's of WNY and delivered them to the Lutheran World Relief Warehouse in Maryland. He was still involved with this project this past year. In 2004 he received a certificate of appreciation from the Thrivent for Lutherans for his dedication service to his Lord through his work with Lutheran World Relief. Clarence was a past president and life member of the Sanborn Lions Club. He was also a 58 year member of the Sanborn Fire Company and its exempts. He was a Charter Member of the TriCommunity Ambulance Service, where he volunteered as a driver, in the late 50's and early 60's. He enjoyed being with his family very much. His hobbies were fishing and traveling. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Phyllis; three daughters, Linda (John) Pluff of New Jersey, Cheryl (James) Kluss of Sanborn, Sandra (Gary) Iulg of New Jersey; five grandchildren, Tanya (Ryan) Nakai, Todd Kluss, Nicole Pluff, Timothy (Nancy) Iulg, Dawn Iulg; two great grandchildren, Lindsay Ryan Nakai and Drew Tyler Nakai; sisters-in-law, Jane Kroening, Ann Kroening; brother-in-law, Arnold (Mae) Behrens; several nieces, nephews and friends. 5313 | Clarence A. Walker, Jr., a lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018 in Roswell Park Cancer Institute. He was 66. He was born in Niagara Falls on August 30, 1951, the son of the late Clarence A. Walker, Sr and Irene Cornelius Walker. He was a graduate of the former LaSalle Senior High School, Class of 1970. At a young age, he began working for his father in the plastering business. He saved up his hard earned money and at the age of 15, Clarence purchased a 1957 Corvette. Thus, the lifetime of an avid car enthusiast began. He was very talented and loved purchasing and restoring classic cars, sometimes taking them to area car shows. A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, he always made time for, enjoyed and supported his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Clarence was especially proud of his granddaughter Celsey, who donated her stem cells to help him fight his battle with Leukemia. Clarence was a member of the First United Methodist Church. After years in the Construction Industry, where he mentored several young men to become carpenters, Clarence spent the past 14 years as the Superintendent of his son and daughter in law’s business, Jeanine Walker Enterprises. Survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Roberta June (Fleck) Walker; three children, Clarence (Angela) Walker III and Tracy (David) St. Onge both of Niagara Falls; Richard A. 5314 | Clarence E. Swearengen, also known as Pete, 88, passed away on December 6, 2020 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born May 20, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Clarence and Marguerite (Williams) Swearengen. Pete is survived by his wife of 23 years Michele (Magno) Swearengen. Pete retired from Union Carbide Corp. as a crane operator in 1986. He also worked for his late brother, Richard Swearengen, at Gray Furnace for 30 years. He loved watching NASCAR races and spending time with his beloved family and grandchildren. He found joy in lounging and spending time with his beloved dogs. Krull, 59, of 5033 Lower Mountain Road, Town of Cambria, died Monday, (Feb 16, 1970) at Lockport Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born Feb. 20, 1910 in the Town of Wheatfield, the son of Philip and Rose Schendel Krull. He. was an employee of Simonds Steel Division, Murray-Wallace Corp., here for the past 22 years until his retirement a year ago because of ill health. He and his wife, the former Mildred Fiegel, who survives him, celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary Saturday. 5316 | Clarence H. Dutch Jagow, NF Gazette Clarence H. "Dutch" Jagow, age 85, entered into rest on Friday January 23, 2004 at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, after a short illness. Born September 14, 1918 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, son of the late Edward N. and Elizabeth (Wienke) Jagow. Mr. Jagow served as a Sargent in the Army Air Force enlisting in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. Clarence served as a City of Niagara Falls Firefighter for 28 years, retiring in 1981. Mr. Jagow was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his family and friends, he especially enjoyed camping and fishing in the Finger Lakes. Mr. Jagow was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard, Edward and Harold Jagow. Katie was born to missionary parents on December 16th 1931 in Soujbulak, Persia now known as Iran. She was a graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly, IA. She served the American Lutheran Church as a missionary in Papua New Guinea for 12 years. She taught first grade at L.O. Jacob Elementary School in Coon Rapids, MN for 27 years and was the creator and illustrator of the school's blue jay mascot. In 1953, she married Merrill Almon Clark and to that union were born six beautiful and strong children. Katie is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Carla Jean and Pastor Scott Larson, Robyn and Pastor Dan Clark-Bridges, Becky and Johnny Mitchum, Wendy Clark and David Dorow; sons and daughters-in-law Daniel and Nannette Clark, David Clark and Dr. Shu-Ling Chen; Katie was a remarkable woman and life-long educator. 5325 | Claudia B. Kujawa, nee Britt, of Medina, passed away on January 27, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a valiant fight with cancer. Claudia was born in Medina, June 19, 1941, the only child of Claude Seth and Ruth Pearl (Swab) Britt. She graduated salutatorian from Albion High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Buffalo. From 1963-65, Claudia worked at Cornell Aeronautical Laboratories, a contractor for NASA. She was employed as a Manager in Telecommunications by Eastman Kodak Company from 1966-92. Having been outsourced, she took an early retirement from Eastman Kodak Company to raise Andrea, her late in-life child. She was a single parent, a loving and nurturing mother. She was a member of Pi Mu Epsilon Fraternity, National Honorary Mathematics Fraternity. Claudia volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, at Towne Elementary School, and at a local food bank. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, travel, reading, crossword puzzles, gambling and spending time with friends. She was a member of the Middleport and Johnson Creek Senior Citizens groups. 5331 | CLIFFORD - Sharon R. "Sherry" (nee Kornaker) Age 83, passed away peacefully under the care of hospice on Sunday, March 05, 2023 at her home in Mesa, Arizona. She was born in North Tonawanda on September 09, 1939 to Joseph and Marie Kornaker. Sherry was a skilled roller skater and during her teen and preteen years could often be found at local rinks. She worked in the hours after school at Jones Florist on Payne Avenue where she developed her affinity for working with her hands and a lasting fondness for Mrs. Meyers, the proprietor. After graduating from North Tonawanda High School in 1957 where she was a proud member of the cheer leading squad, she received a teaching degree at Buffalo State College. She taught in various area schools for a brief time before deciding, on a whim, to visit friends in New York City. She ended up staying and working there where she met and married her future husband, Francis (Frank) Clifford, in 1963. Frank and Sherry lived and raised a family in various parts of the Country before settling in Arizona in the mid 90's. Sherry enjoyed reading and crocheting, both often accomplished with her beloved cat, Eko, at her side. She crocheted whatever could be crocheted or held together with crochet and kept everyone she knew supplied with pot holders and oven towels. Sherry will be remembered by family and friends for her quirky sense of humor, coupon cutting and thriftiness, and amazing fortitude in facing illness and loss. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Clifford; daughter, Colleen Clifford and son, Jeremiah Clifford. He is now with his Lord and Savior. Clifford was born on January 27, 1947 in Bristol, CT. Son of Henry and Elsie (Litke) Hummel. Husband of Lynne Hummel. Father of Todd, Chris and Lori Hummel. Grandfather to Jaxon, Jordan and Anna Hummel. Brother of Edith Frechette, Etta Robillard, Elaine Morey, and Erma Kravecs. Beloved Brother-in-law, Uncle to many, Principal to thousands and Teacher to many more. Cliff grew up in Terryville, CT. He participated in many sports including baseball, football, swimming and track. He was very active in the Boy Scouts and achieved the goal of becoming an Eagle Scout. Cliff started his life of servanthood by attending Concordia College (Bronxville and River Forest) graduating in 1970 with a degree in Education. Christian Education was His Business…He had a huge heart for Christian education. Cliff married his partner in love and service Lynne (Binkley) on August 1st, 1970. He began his teaching career at Martin Luther Christian School in New Jersey. Cliff and Lynne continued their journey at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School in North Tonawanda, New York. While at St. Matthew, Cliff served as a teacher for many years and eventually became Principal. The servant journey continued at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Hilton, New York where he served as Principal. Cliff’s heart for service did not end with retirement. He continued to serve his Lord in any and every capacity he could until his final days. Cliff had a lifelong passion for sports. He played, coached and officiated for many years impacting the lives of all he interacted with along the way. Cliff loved his grandchildren, watching them play and perform, golfing with his boys, wood working, gardening, and finding garage sale treasures with Lynne. A short memorial service will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hilton, NY on Thursday January 18th at 11am for those in the Rochester area. 5338 | Clinton (Sam) Hermanson SANBORN - Clinton (Sam) Hermanson, 61, of 5791 Buffalo St., former Niagara County highway superintendent, died today (April 5, 1979) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after an apparent heart attack. He was a member of a pioneer Sanborn family and was the son of the late LeRoy and Helen Sanborn Hermanson. He had served during World War II with the U.S. Army in the Pacific and had been employed by the Niagara County Highway Department since 1945. He retired as highway superintendent in 1977 and had served as the second Niagara County fire coordinator from 1964 until 1969. He was a life member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. and had served as chief from 1958 to 1959. He was president of the fire company in 1962 and had served for many years as band manager. He was a member of the Western New York Fire Chief's Association, the Niagara County Volunteer Firemen's Association, and the Niagara County Police and Judges Association and the Niagara and Erie County Planning Board, and was past commander of the Sanborn American Legion Post 969. He is survived by his wife, Hilda Strasburg Hermanson; two brothers, Charles W. Hermanson of Sanborn and Clair D. Hermanson of Watkins Glen, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Irene) Carico of Hubert, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gordon L. Hermanson. Funeral services will be held at the Rhoney Funeral Home, Saturday at 1 p.m.. with the Rev. Kenneth E. Traxler officiating. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery. Friends may call from 8 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Friday. The family said contributions to the Sanborn United Methodist Church will be acceptable as tributes. 5339 | Clinton Brockway, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020, at his residence in Niagara Falls. Born in Brookville, PA, he was the son of the late Millard and Elsie (Thompson) Brockway; and husband of the late Petrina “Pat” Brockway, whom he married on May 15, 1948 at the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Cliff moved to Niagara Falls as a teenager and attended local schools. He enlisted into the United States Army during World War II on September 13, 1943, and served overseas for fourteen months in England and France in the European Theater of Operations, and eight months on Okinawa in the Pacific until his honorable discharge on March 11, 1946. He continued to serve his country in the National Guard until his second honorable discharge on March 10, 1949. Mr. Brockway was employed as an Electro-Mechanical Technician at Bell Aircraft for many years prior to his retirement. He was also a gifted photographer and owned and operated B & W Photography. Cliff was a 20 year member of the New York Professional Photography Association. He competed in many roller-skating competitions with his wife and also received many awards for his 1927 Ford Model T which he restored. Mr. Brockway was a talented craftsman and enjoyed making and repairing almost anything. He also took great pride in handcrafting furniture, especially his living room pieces and grandfather clocks. In addition to his wife, Mr. Brockway was predeceased by his son David (Mary) Brockway. He is survived by his granddaughter, Sherry (Zech) Brockway-VanDermeer; his great-grandson, Benjamin, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank (Rose) Micale, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jay Street, Rome, was killed Thursday, Nov. 15, when his^car collided with the tractor part of a tractor-trailer on the Rome-Oriskany Road, two miles east of Stanwix. The victim, who was Oneida County's 25th traffic fatality this year, was alone in his 1949 twodoor sedan, as it headed east towards Oriskany about 11:00 p.m. Thursday night. Deputy Sheriffs Donald ,Tulley and Stanley Kolasz said the mishap with the vehicle driven by Thomas Campbell, 37, of 329 Middler Ave., Syracuse, occurred on an upgrade and that the Smith car was on the wrong side of the road. According to their report, the victim's auto crossed ihe highway and struck the tractor-truck just back of" the cab towards the rear wheels, then continued past the point of impact 217 feet, and In so doing recrossed the highway. It stopped on the."road's south shoulder. The 'westbound truck went 191 feet following" the collision. Its drive shaft was found 50 feet from the point-of impact and rear wheels, also torn loose, were found 134 feet from the same spot Campbell, who' was driving a 1955 machine belonging to General Expressway, Syracuse, was taken to Rome Hospital, where he was reported in good condition. Mr. Smith was born in Oriskany on Feb. 5, 1925, son of William and Theresa Beasock Smith. He was educated in Oriskany Central School and served during World War H in. France and Wales for two and a half years. On September 6, 1947 in St Peter's Church in Oriskany, he married the former ElnoraA. Colp, who survives. He had resided in Oriskany, where he was employed by the Oriskany Malleable Iron Works since 1941, and moved to Rome four years ago. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oriskany. Surviving besides his wife are his parents in Oriskany, and his grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beasock. North Tonawanda, N. Y.; two sons, Charles E. and Everett W. Smith.
