A Graduate of North Tonawanda High School, Doris was a long time Legal Secretary for the law firm Cohen, Swados, Wright, Hanifin, Bradford, and Brett. Doris was also a life-time member of St. John Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, where she also attended grade school. Doris had a passion for her Cocker Spaniel dogs. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, the occasional Manhattan, and crossword puzzles. She is survived by her daughter Holly (Novotny) & Richard Yager Sr., son Joseph Maglie, granddaughter Jamie (Fuhr) & Keith Krantz, grandson Richard Yager Jr., and Cocker Spaniel Zoe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Burngasser; three brothers, Richard, Raymond and James Brodfuehrer. 5958 | Doris L. Dunmire of Wheatfield, NY, passed away peacefully in Hospice on January 14, 2017 after a short illness. She was born in Punxsutawney, PA, and moved to Niagara Falls, NY as a child. She was an RN and worked for many years in local hospitals but spent most of her career as a private duty nurse in Western New York. She was a member of the Red Hats, and volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels, and the Niagara County Nutrition Program. She was predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Ethel Dunmire; and a brother, George (Linda) Dunmire. She is survived by a brother, Joseph (Sharon) Dunmire; and beloved nephews, Mark (Stacey), Steven (Tammy), Robert (Cheryl) and Kevin Dunmire. She is also survived by nieces, Sandy Daniel and Louise Howard. She adored her great-niece, Hannah; and great-nephews, Matthew, John and Joshua Dunmire and loved making beautiful birthday cakes for each one. There was no prior visitation. Doris was employed in the Tab Department at Moore Business Forms and she spoke of her experience in the workforce often and how proud she was of that job. Doris enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, attending her grandchildren’s hockey games and other activities, and roller-skating with her husband in her younger years; She and Mr. Henderson loved spending time together and their bond was one that the family tried to model their own relationships after. Above all, she was an incredibly family oriented mother and grandmother, and cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and beloved great grandchildren. Doris, with her infectious smile and bubbly personality, embraced every moment that she had with her family and she made the people around her better. Doris was born August 16, 1922 in the Town of Lewiston, the daughter of the late Durwood M. and Irene (Young) Leggett. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Niagara University and began her teaching career at the Lewiston Red Brick School at the age of 19. In 1984 she retired from the Niagara Falls School District where she taught Math for many years. A Veteran of WW II, Doris served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Technician from May 29, 1945 to her honorable discharge on November 20, 1946. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston. On June 11, 1948 she married Robert "Bob" W. Miller. Bob predeceased her in 2013. She is survived by a daughter, Judy (Paul) Muoio; a son, James (Mary) Miller; six grandchildren, Paul, Nicholas (Kimberly), Kristin (Jeff), Lindsey, Ashley, and Kendall; three great grandchildren, Logan, Lorelai, and Hope; a sister, May Ann Williams, and several nieces and nephews. Nan graduated from LaSalle High School in 1952 and went to work for the Carborundum Company as an Executive Secretary. She married Thomas Denn at St. Mary’s of the Cataract Church in Niagara Falls on June 18, 1966. Nan and her family were long-time members of the Niagara Falls Country Club where she was active in the annual Porter Cup golf tournament, serving as housing chairperson for many years. She loved playing bridge, reading and watching golf & tennis. Her greatest joy was spending time at home with her family and enjoying the activities of her children and grandchildren. 5971 | Dorothy "Polly" Hartman, of Niagara Falls passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 27th at Elderwood Nursing Home in Wheatfield. She was born and raised in LaSalle and graduated from LaSalle Sr. High School. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She always saw the best in people. She lived most of her life on Cayuga Island and loved living on the water. In the 1970's and into the 1980's she ran an international company which was incredible, as women typically did not hold that position during that time. She received the Good Neighbor award. She was a wonderful piano player and enjoyed tennis, swimming, skating, boating, snowmobiling and motorcycling with her husband, Jack. She belonged to the Water Wheel Square Dance Club where they performed at many nursing homes and community events. For years she knitted caps for newborn babies in the hospital. She never missed any of her grandchildren's recitals, sporting events and graduations. Her face would light up when she had all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her. She had a strong personality but it gave her so much passion and love for everyone and all she did. She always loved angels and butterflies. 5972 | Dorothy (Jesse) Cuddahee, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Brothers of Mercy Nursing Care Residence in Clarence. She was 89. She was born in Dunkirk, New York on March 9, 1927, a daughter of the late Joseph and Valentina Jesse. She graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1945 and moved to Niagara Falls in 1946. She worked at DuPont for several years during which time she married Lawrence P. Cuddahee. She then ended her career at DuPont to stay at home and raise her family. Mrs. Cuddahee was a mother to many neighborhood children and she loved to cook and take care of people. She loved children and in turn was beloved by her students and their parents. In 1986, she was named Teacher of the Year for the district. Other memories that she cherished for a life-time was that of living and raising her three sons in a new house on Moll Street in North Tonawanda. She had very fond memories of the life they lived there along with neighbors the Tussinng's, the Morgan’s and the Hobbs, amongst others. She was a long-time member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, where a memorial service will be celebrated at a later date (to be announced). Dorothy worked alongside Orville on the farm while raising three children. She and Orville also took great pride in showing their nieces and nephews from the big city (Chicago) the workings of farm life when they would arrive for extended summer holidays from school. Her children and grandchildren gave her great joy throughout her long and productive life. She will be sadly missed by all whose life she touched with her generosity, kindness and great sense of humor. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Helen (Adams) Wallace and the step-daughter of the late Hannah Wallace. Dorothy was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. On August 26, 1950, she married Anthony B. Schiavi, M.D. at Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Dr. Schiavi predeceased her on January 14, 1990. Dorothy was employed at Nabisco Shredded Wheat and Hooker Chemical in her younger years. She was an avid golfer and a member of Niagara Frontier Country Club, where she loved to spend time and enjoy functions with her dear friends at the club. She was a fantastic cook, and loved preparing and sharing holiday meals with her family. Dorothy was the life of the party, and will be remembered most for her great personality, kind hearted nature and her love of her family. Dorothy is survived by her children; Anthony (Rosanne) Schiavi, Marianne Schiavi, Matthew (Laura) Schiavi, and Brian Schiavi; her grandchildren, Krista (Scott) Sciera, Ashley (Andrew) Marinucci, Bianca Schiavi and Matthew A. She was very proud to have been picked for girls state in her junior years of high school. Dorothy volunteered for the food pantry in Middleport and enjoyed gardening, playing euchre, loved going to the casino, and was an avid NY Yankee’s fan. She also served as past president of the Hartland Fire Company Auxiliary for several years. Above all family was her greatest joy, she loved spending time with her family.
