Born on August 19, 1962 in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward Donald and Charlotte M. (Baer) Swider. On October 13, 1990, Elisabeth married Eugene F. Moeller in Trinity Lutheran Church, Lockport, NY. Elisabeth was raised and attended schools in Buffalo, NY. Following their marriage, Eugene and Elisabeth moved to North Tonawanda, NY. She was a congregant of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lockport and was very active in the North Tonawanda Fire Department Active Hose #2 as a past fireman, current exempt member and active in the former Ladies Auxiliary. Elisabeth enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Above all, she loved spending time with "the lights of her life," her grandchildren. In addition to her beloved husband, Elisabeth is survived by children, Amy (Michael) NeMoyer, Marjorie Moeller and Adrian (Shalaine) Moeller; grandchildren, Sophia, William, Gabriella and Maverick; and one expected granddaughter, Paisley; siblings, Kim Kornacki, Stacie (Glenn) Simmons and Jason Swider; her mother-in-law, Carol (late Eugene) Moeller; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Constance Donahue. Betty Lou worked for Harrison radiator in the employment department. She was a member of Good Shepherd RC Church and St. Joseph's Club, was a well-known artist in her younger years and enjoyed reading and working on crossword puzzles. Betty Lou is survived by her husband Raymond Beiter; mother of Michael Beiter and Kathleen Routhier; grandmother of Cori (Larry) Herbst; great grandmother of Sara, Alyssa, Emily and Jacob; sister of George (late Eleanor) Ward; also several nieces and nephews. 6004 | Elizabeth "Betty" J. Williams of Lockport, NY was called to be home with the Lord on May 23, 2015. She was 99 years old. Born on October 3, 1915 in the Town of Wheatfield, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Magdelena Hoffmeister Jagow. Elizabeth was a retired Elementary School Teacher and taught at St. Andrews, Pekin, Trinity Lutheran and St. Peter, North Ridge. She loved to teach children to read and sing. She was Co-owner and Marketer of Williams' Acres Dairy & "Own-Grown" Produce Farm in Ransomville. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, North Ridge, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was also a friend of Concordia Lutheran Church. Elizabeth was a Literacy Volunteer and enjoyed wood carving, gardening, sewing, fishing, and hunting, and loved to cook and bake. Her greatest passion was Bible Study, prayer, and sharing her Christian Faith. In 1977, Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Melvin C. Williams. She was also predeceased by her son Thomas (Lorena) Williams, and two granddaughters, Brenda Brawn (Tom) Cervi and Lauries Volls (Mike) Fournier. She is survived by her children, Douglas (Nancy) Williams, Patricia (Gary) Johnston, Nancy (Richard) Reak, Timothy (Donna) Williams and Elizabeth "Betsy" (Carl) Bodie; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; her brother, Victor (Betty) Jagow and sister, Marilyn (Robert) Winter and many nieces and nephews. 6005 | Elizabeth "Libby" Mae Brauen (Hellert), age 88, of Gasport, entered into rest on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo. Born on October 17, 1926 in Royalton, Libby is the daughter of the late Edward C. and Elsie M. (Mietz) Hellert. Libby married Robert Brauen on June 9, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville. Her husband, Bob Brauen, died on May 25, 1997. Together they had three children, Patricia Ann (the late Roger) Schnackel of South Carolina, Bonita Jo (Fred) Dempsey of Lockport and Steven M. (Karen) Brauen of Gasport. Dearest grandmother of Dale (Vicki) Schnackel, Todd Dempsey, Kimberly (Jason) Langhorne, Andrea (Ryan) Degenhardt, Trevor (Kate) Brauen, Tracey (Eric) Waters, Matthew (Jennifer) Brauen, and the late Michael Schnackel; and great-grandmother to 17 great-grandchildren. Sister of Elsie Williams of Florida, Kathryn Thiel of Middleport, Ruby Schultz of West Shelby, and the late Robert Hellert, Donald Hellert, Marion Washak and Dorothy Schuler. Several nieces and nephews also survive Libby. Elizabeth worked about 15 years at FMC in Middleport in data entry. She loved spending time with her family having picnics and get-togethers. She enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers. She was a member of the Wolcottsville Firemen's marching band and its auxiliary, and for many years was a Girl Scout leader. 6006 | Elizabeth (nee Thomson) Dier McKenzie, 92, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at her residence, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on November 4, 1922 in Stevenston, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late William and May (Cook) Thomson. On December 25, 1941, she married Clarence A. Dier. He predeceased her on April 5, 1972. Betty, as she was known to family and friends, came to Niagara Falls at the age of five. She attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. For thirty-five years, Betty was employed as a Nurses Aide for Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church on Ward Road in North Tonawanda as well as Order of the Eastern Star. Betty had also served as President and Vice President of the McKenzie Club. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and knitting. Betty is survived by five children, Elizabeth (Karl) Blair, Marge Cirillo, Beverly Luffman, Robert (Chris) Dier and Marilyn (late Ted) Szpara; six grandchildren, Ken Holt, Ann Cirillo, Kris Gedeon, John Luffman, Shannon Bland and Karolyn Blair; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a very special cousin, Darlene Hathaway, who was Betty's constant companion in her last days and several nieces and nephews. Born in Jordan Township, PA, on January 19, 1928, a daughter of Willis and Cynthia Diehl (Eagler), she moved to Niagara Falls after graduating high school and resided there for the remainder of her life. Liz was a homemaker providing a loving home for her husband, the late Emmett Berard, and their daughter. After he retired, she and Emmett enjoyed traveling. Church was a very important piece of her life. She served as an elder, deacon and Sunday School Superintendent over the many years of her membership with Riverside Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia 'Cindy' (John) Obey; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Michael) Stark; great-granddaughters, Emma and Anna Stark; sister, Gladys Russo; several nieces and nephews. Born April 11, 1938 in Lockport, Elizabeth is the daughter of the late George and Flora (Thompson) Skutt. She married David W. Hollenbaugh, November 4, 2009. Mr. Hollenbaugh died August 17, 2016. She worked at Harrison’s General Motors in Lockport for 30 years. Elizabeth enjoyed flower gardening, doing crafts, crafts and traveling taking her first cruise at the age of 80 and loving it. Surviving are her children: Elizabeth (John) Taylor, Cheryl (Daniel) Shoop, Ray Bennett, Daniel (Bessie) Bennett, and the late: Andrew Bennett. Step-mother of: Linda (Douglas) Mault, Cindy (Russell) Harris and the late Peggy Keys. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of Betty A. (Patsolic) Bevacqua and the late Ernest W. Bevacqua. Liz as she was affectionately known attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. She later went on to receive her Bachelors Degree from Keuka College and Masters Degree from the University of Buffalo. Liz was employed at Opportunities Unlimited in Niagara Falls for 32 years and most recently at Kalos Inc. in Niagara Falls as an Enrollment Coordinator for the last couple years. Liz loved music and had a passion for the blues and was a gifted artist who enjoyed water color and oil painting. In her younger years she was an avid bowler and participated in various leagues. Above all Liz enjoyed spending precious time with her beloved family. She also worked for Opportunities Unlimited for several years. Betty enjoyed bowling in various local leagues, as well as playing cards, cooking and baking. Above all, she loved spending time with her family who will miss her dearly. Born in Lockport, NY, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Alicia (Parker) Bedford. On May 7, 1960, Betty married Bernard J. Bloom at St. John the Baptist Church in Lockport, NY. Mr. Bloom predeceased her in 1994. Betty worked as a nurses aid in the Pediatrics Department of Lockport Memorial Hospital. Afterwards, she worked in home care devoting her time to taking care of her mother. Betty was devoted to her Catholic faith and long time member of St. Mary’s Church in Medina, NY. She enjoyed collecting artifacts of cardinals, painting, drawing and crossword puzzles. As a child, she loved spending time at Bedford Beach in Lockport that was owned by her parents, as well as working on their farm in Gasport, NY. Betty and her husband also enjoyed bike riding, traveling and attending musicals. She took great pleasure going to Crystal Beach in Canada with her family, family reunions held at Olcott Beach and walking her dog Misty. Mrs. Bloom is survived by her three children, Christine M. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine (Antonucci) Certo. Lizzie was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. She was employed in her family’s business, Certo Brothers Distributing Company, for over 50 years as Secretary & Treasurer. During World War II, Lizzie was instrumental in running the day-to-day operations of the company while her brothers were serving in the military. On August 31, 1968, she married Robert J. Pfleger in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Pfleger predeceased her on September 24, 2013. Lizzie was a renowned ballroom dancer, and won many competitions with her husband. She was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed traveling and visiting many casinos. She was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society at St. Mary of the Cataract Church. Her work ethic and commitment to her family made her the ideal role model for her female nieces. Elizabeth is survived by her step children, Suzanne Pfleger and Jeffery A. Pfleger, and her step-granddaughter, Emily Pfleger; her sister, Mary Certo Morinello Rolle, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews and cousins. 6019 | Elizabeth Mary 'Betty' Bridge entered into rest on January 20, 2017. Born on October 6, 1923 in Buffalo to the late William Joseph and Alberta Caroline (Suess) Venus. Resided in Buffalo until age eight, then moved to the city of Tonawanda where she continued her education until graduation in the Class of 1941 at Tonawanda High School, where she earned the nickname of 'Weener' to her close friends. Elizabeth went on to further her education at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. In 1945, she accepted a position teaching physical education at the Royalton-Hartland school district and resided in Middleport, NY. She began teaching K-12, and was later able to start teaching her favorite grades K-6 at both Gasport Elementary and Middleport Elementary for 40 years. During her time teaching, she married John Joseph Jack Bridge on October 9, 1948. She is survived by her two sons, Thomas and Patrick Bridge, and grandson Cody M. Bridge. Betty conducted the school census for several years, which provided a great source of information on the families in her school district and this made her one of the most well-known people and teachers in the area. In 1985, Betty, known by her students as Mrs. Bridge, retired. Over the years, she had taught many families, some for three generations. During this time, she enjoyed teaching swimming and being the cheerleading advisor. During retirement, she continued serving her community by working and advising at the Middleport Food Pantry for 29 years. The family of Betty would like to thank the staff at Heritage Manor (Lockport) and Absolute Care of Gasport for the excellent care they provided and compassion they showed her and her family. She worked at Sherwood Selpac for many years and was currently employed at Barker Central School in the guidance department. Liz absolutely loved helping people of all ages. She volunteered at The Dale Association and organized family picnics and activities geared toward the many children in our large family. Her Easter events including kite-flying, pinatas, Easter egg and scavenger hunts were a family favorite. Liz enjoyed traveling. Her favorite trips were to Hawaii with her sisters and parents, a trip to Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and France with her mother, and a few trips to Jamaica. 6025 | Ellen Jane Schmidt, age 69, entered into rest after an almost decade long battle to cancer on September 22, 2024 in Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Born December 18, 1954 in Lockport, a daughter of William and Norma (Sewar) Maloney. Ellen worked in production at several factories including Fisher Price in Akron, Sherwood in Lockport, Pfeiffer Foods in Wilson, and finally retiring from GM in Lockport in 2020. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, loved oldies music, and loved to crotchet. Her generous heart prompted her to donate crotcheted lap blankets to local nursing homes every Christmas. Though her biggest pride and joy was her family. Ellen was born on February 7, 1927 in Watson, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Edmond and Rose (Ferrise) Girod. Ellen was employed for most of her working career in the retail industry. For many years she managed the offices of the former MAXIM’s and KINGS department stores (what is now the sight of the Fashion Outlets). Later on she managed the former KIDSPORT, USA at the Outlet Mall. She retired in 1991. Ellen was extremely artistic, at drawing and painting pictures, which are displayed throughout her home. She loved crafting and decorating and took pride in her home. She loved to spend time outside, tending to her numerous flower gardens. She was an avid NY Yankees fan. Most of all Ellen loved her family and spending time with them. She was a simple person, who never wanted or asked for much from anyone. She loved to give of herself to anyone in need. Her family will always treasure all the moments they shared especially Christmas Eve’s which were always celebrated at her home. Her grandchildren will remember the sleep overs and helping Nana make the stuffing for Thanksgiving dinners. Ellen will forever be loved, missed and remembered by her entire family. 6033 | ELLICOTTVILLE - John L. Whitmer, 85, who owned and operated Whitmer's Dairy and who was a former village trustee, died Saturday (June 15, 2002) in his home. Born in Ellicottville, he was a member of the 1936-37 undefeated Ellicottville High School football team. He also played on the Ellicottville town baseball and basketball teams. He was a trustee of the Ellicottville Village Board from 1986 to 1995. He had been president of the Ellicottville Sportsmen Club and captain of its trap team. He also was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. From 1944 through 1995 he owned and operated Whitmer's Dairy. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Name of Mary Church in Ellicottville. Heirloom lace trini- med the portrait neckline. The fltted bodice with dropped wa³st linê, which had a fuli skirt gather- ed over the hips fell to a full chap- el length train. The long pointed sleeves were finished with tiny cov- ered buttons. The gown was trim- med in the back with tiny coyered to below the waist. Her fingertip veil of French illusión was caught with a crown of seed pearls. For her something old,, she wore a ring which belonged to a great aunt, and traditional smething bor- rowed, blue and new. She carried a small arm bouquet of white orchids, white roses, ad lillies of the valley. Her Rhinestone heartshaped necklae and earrings were a gift of the bridegroom. Tha maid-of-honor. Miss Darlane Damm, of Shawñee, Oklahoma, wore a gold satin gown with Iow portrait 'neckline with double collar, fltted bodice and long, gathered Miss Dorothy Buerger, sister of bride, was bridesmald, and wore an identical gown of agua satin. They wore long matæhing mitts and halo hats with shoulder length veil. They carried colonial bou¹uets of roses and sweet peas. The organlst, Miss Helen Kor- pela, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, wore a pink crepe street length dress with nayy accessories, and a gar- Tlenia corsage. She played the traditional wedd³ng marches and nuptial musie preceding the cere mony. While the vows were apoken a wedd³ng hymn was played. Tha soloi³t. Mr. Ray Shu³s, of Olean, sang "Beeause," "O Perfect Love. The Lord's Prayer was sung during the eeremony by Mr. Shutz. The bride's mother wore white crepe dress with royal blue and black print and black aecessories. She wore a corsage of red roses. The brldegroom's mother wore a gray bemberg sheer with black and whlte print, with whlte aecessories. Sho also wore a corsage of red roses. Mr. Frank Morehouse serred his brother as best man. Ushers were, Lieutenant (jg) Robert Buerger, brother of the bride, now stationed in Atlanta, Georgia, and Rodney B³ock, friend of the bridegroom. The altar was banked with baskets of whlte gladiolas and white carnations. A reception was ha³d in the home of the btide's parents with about 135 guests ¹ttending. After the bride and bridegroom cut the flrst piece of wedd³ng cake, Mrs. Edgar J. Buerger of Schenectady, seryed. Mrs. Wallace Almgren of James- town poured punch. Miss Norma Morehouse, sister of the bridegroom was ³n charge of the guest book. Miss Leota Smith of Ellicottville assisted in the serving. The bridegroom is a graduate of St. Bonaven turê Coftege. He seryed in the Field Artillery as First Lieu- tenant and is now employed as a manager trainee by the Triangle Shoe Company In Olean. The bride attended sehools in Shawnee, Oklahoma and graduated from Central School ³n Memphis, Tennessee. Before her marriage she was employed by Drs. Northrup i their local dentist oflfice. For going away, the bride wore a dusty rosê and navy blue suit with white accessories and"an orch³d cor- sage. The couple left for a trlp to Chicago and points west. 6043 | Ellis Wright Delahoy, 90, of Ransomville, New York passed away on March 20, 2021. He was born in Niagara Falls, New York on August 20, 1930, a son of the late David and Dorothy Delahoy. A graduate of Niagara Falls High School and Ohio Northern University, Ellis was an employee of Harper International for over 40 years, as well as a veteran of the United States Army and the Niagara Falls Auxiliary Police. Ellis was a military history enthusiast and enjoyed outdoor activities, such as camping, hunting, and fishing. As a member of the National Rifle Association and the Military Vehicle Preservation Association, he participated in local events sharing his knowledge of his personal WWII memorabilia. Ellis is survived by his wife, OkBun, his children, Beth (John) Wruck, Ellis M. Delahoy, and Dawn (Brendon) Cich; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his former spouse, Charlotte Ann, and his sister, Jeanne Delahoy. 6050 | Ellsworth W. “Bud” McKelvey, 103, passed away October 11, 2019 at his son and daughter-in law’s home in Rush, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he resided in the LaSalle area for many years, and relocated to Rush, NY in 2016. He was the son of the late Elize and Nellie (Hartman) McKelvey. Bud was a proud United States Army Veteran, serving with the 299th Core of Engineers during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was predeceased by his wife, Bess (Kay) McKelvey who passed away in 1995. Ellsworth worked at his family’s business, E.C. McKelvey & Son Jewelers in Niagara Falls until it closed in the late 1970’s. He then was employed in the paint Department of K-Mart. and at Crandle’s Paints. Bud was a talented woodworker and especially enjoyed creating carvings. He also enjoyed reading, visiting many WNY Winery’s, but most of all, he enjoyed being with his family, friends and neighbors. Ellsworth is survived by his son, Eric (Mary) McKelvey, his daughter, Joanne (Walt) Deland; one grandson Michael (Kelly) Deland; his great-granddaughters, Sarina and Hailey Deland; and his brother Dick (Marilyn) McKelvey, as well as several nieces, nephews, many good friends and neighbors.
