6203 | Ex-Machinist Dies at 76 Matthew Dorochak, 76, of 1664 Linwood Ave., died today (Aug. 13, 1964) at Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Austria Jan. 18, 1888, the son of Andrew and Mary Dorochak. He had lived in Niagara for 70 years. He was a retired machinist and had worked at Olin Mathieson Chemical Corps for 30 years and for the City of Niagara Falls for 15 years. He retired 11 years ago. Mr. Dorochak is survived by 10 daughters, Mrs. William Slenker, Mrs. John Gaertner, Mrs. Agnes Clifton and Miss Barbara Dorochak, all of Niagara Falls; Sister Donna Marie,. O.S.F., St., Mary's: of the Angel s, Williamsville; Mrs. Theodore Sanders, of Lewiston; Mrs. Randall Bailey, of Orange, Conn.; Mrs. Richard Rees, of Elmira; Mrs. Irene Rowe, of Sherrill, and Mrs. Paul LaVassaur, of Novato, Calif. Also surviving are two brothers, Steve Dorochak, of Sherrill, and John Dorochak, of Orchard Park, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 6204 | EXPIRES SUDDENLY Cerebral Hemorrhage Proved Fatal to Town of Wheatfield Farmer NORTH TONAWANDA. Feb. 23. - William Forth, 68 years old, died suddenly yesterday at his home on the Schultz road, town of Wheatfield. Coroner J. E. Helwig gave the cause of death as cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Forth was apparently in the best of health when he retired. He had been chopping wood on his farm yesterday. Mrs. Forth heard her husband gasping for breath but he died before a physician could be summoned. Born in Germany. Mr. Forth had resided in Wheatfield for th« last 53 years. He is survived by his wife, Anna; four sons, Edward. Tonawanda; Herbert and Raymond, Wheatfield, and Elmer. North Tonawanda; a daughter, Mrs. Kempton Briggs, Tonawanda; nine grandchildren and. two sisters, Mrs. Fred Rockwood. Cambria. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 3:10 o'clock at the home. 6205 | F. A. Hoefert Dies; Retired Police Chief North Tonawanda - Frederick A. Hoefert, 76, of 298 Niagara Street, and commander of a Spanish American War Veterans unit here, died Tuesday night (Jan. 15, 1957) at Veterans Hospital, Buffalo. He was hospitalized for the last two months but had been in ill health for the last, five years. Mr. Hoefert ended a 43-year police career when he retired Dec. 31, 1945. He had served as chief for 20 years, a record for that post in this city. With Force Since 1902 He was appointed to the Police Department on April 1, 1902, after completing an enlistment in the U. S. Army, in which he served with the 8th Infantry Regiment and saw service in Cuba in the war against Spain and later service in the Philippines. Mr. Hoefert worked as a patrolman until June 1, 1924, when he was appointed on reserve duty in police headquarters on the retirement of the late Chief John F.Ryan. He was promoted to chief in 1925. Mr. Hoefert held the commandership of Albert R. Smith Camp,United Spanish War Veterans, since his retirement until death. He was active in the Niagara County Veterans Council and Niagara River Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the International Police Chiefs Assn., Sweeney Hose Co., the North Tonawanda Firemen's Benevolent Assn., and of First Evangelical United Brethren Church and its brotherhood. Native of Germany Born in Germany, Mr. Hoefert came to this country at the age of 9 with his parents, the late Henry and Louise Hoefert. The family settled on Grand Island and in 1901 moved to this city. Mr. Hoefert and his wife, the former Minnie A. Rohde, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 15, 1955. Surviving, in addition to Mrs. Hoefert, are two sons, Herbert W. Hoefert, this city, and Wilbert G. Hoefert, North Java; three daughters, Mrs. Kurt H. Osberg, Philadelphia, Mrs. Walter A. Reinhard, Amherst, Ohio, and Mrs. Glenn T. Wardell, this city: eight grandchildren; and a brother, William G. Hoefert, Detroit. The Rev. Harlington M. Fannie was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, and attended local schools. She worked for M&T Bank for over 40 years, retiring in 1993. Family was Fannie’s greatest joy. Fannie is survived by her loving niece Linda (Daniel) Destino, nephews John (late Catherine) Virtuoso, Guido (Sylvia) Virtuoso, and Michael (Marisa) Pisano. She is also survived by her 10 great nieces and nephews and their families who loved Aunt Fannie with all their hearts and with whom she was always very generous. 6239 | Farm youth electrocuted APPLETON - A 15-year-old farm worker was electrocuted here Saturday in view of his father when he tried to slide down a conveyor system from the barn of John Sweeney, 7367 Somerset Road, at lunchtime. New York State police, who investigated the fatality, said the boy was identified as Paul Lewis Rhodes, of 7394 W. Somerset Road, who along with his father, Daniel Rhodes, worked for Mr. Swenney. Apparently two conveyors were being used to load hay into the barn and the lower conveyor developed an electrical short-circuit. Witnesses said the boy slid down the upper conveyor to the lower one but as his feet touched the lower conveyor, his hands still grasped the upper conveyer; setting up an electrical ground. Niagara County Coroner Daniel Andrews, of Youngstown, was called to the scene and pronounced the youth dead. An autopsy was ordered and the body was taken to Newfane Intercommunity Hospital. Investigator William Tumulty of the New York State Police investigated the fatality. He said the conveyor system was ordered out of service by the coroner until it is inspected and repaired. The dead youth is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rhodes; a sister, Evelyn Leona Rhodes, and two step-brothers, Michael and Scott Solomon, all at home, Also surviving are his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rhodes of Appleton, Mrs. Florence Rheim, of Reading, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Walck, of Sandborn (sic). Paul was a member of the West Somerset Baptist Church softball team and the church choir. He was a 10th grade student at Barker Central High School and a member of the Junior Varsity football team, He was also a member of the Future Farmers of America. Funeral arrangements were made by the Arthur J. Hood Funeral Home, Barker. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. 6241 | Farmer retires. Flevie Danielewicz, at the age of 90, has been called home by his Heavenly Father and will be greeted at his eternal farm by his beloved wife, Jean. He passed away on Tuesday, at Niagara Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. Flevie was the son of the late George and Louise (Jarzab) Danielewicz. In 1948, after the passing of his father, Flevie quit school and became a farmer at the age of 20 alongside his mother and sister, Bernice. Flevie was proud to be the first of many, including building a fallout shelter in the area in 1961, installing a pipeline milker and bulk tank, which eliminated milk cans in 1962, and building the first herringbone parlor in Wilson, NY in 1988. Flevie was proud to be one of the area's first John Deere 4-wheel drive tractor owners in 1977 from CJ Perry & Son. Among his trend-setting endeavors included one of the area's first bale wagons, self-propelled combines, and Claas Choppers. Some of his most proud memories were being named Farmer of the Year in 1962, getting married in 1972, and planting 65 acres while his wife was delivering his second child. Flevie is survived by his four devoted and loving children, Louise (Chad), Jason (Kimberly), Renee (Brian), and Christopher (Cassie). He will be fondly and gratefully remembered by his six grandchildren, Olivia, Gavin, Jack, Sophia, Morgan, and Jackson. It will be with great honor and devotion that daughter Louise and husband Chad will continue to tend to Flevie's land and keep his passion alive. He was born April 2, 1968 in Buffalo, New York to Gerald and Sandra Alderman Farnham, Sr. Jerry graduated from Starpoint High School in Pendleton, NY in 1986 where he wrestled, ran cross country and was student council vice president. He then attended Ohio Diesel Tech School and upon graduation began working at Midland Asphalt in 1988. He served as Pendleton Town Councilman in Pendleton, NY. He and Brigid Tuyn Farnham were married July 7, 2006 in Buffalo, New York. Brigid and Jerry relocated to Cape Girardeau, MO in 2007 where he began to work for Delta Companies as Plants and Equipment Manager. In 2020 he was promoted to Director of Equipment with Colas USA. Jerry was a dedicated employee to the industry for 35 years. Jerry was an extremely talented man, and most would agree, there was not much Jerry could not fix. Jerry loved to golf, travel, camp and spend time with his family. He was a loyal and loving father to his two young boys. He was the Assistant Scoutmaster of Lucas's Boy Scout Troop and was Samuel's number one sports fan on the sidelines. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Fay & Winnie were married on March 3, 1956 and together had two children, Mark Heschke & Karen Schubauer. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on October 28, 1957 and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1958. Throughout his life he raised his family on his family farm while devoting much of his time to the Gasport Lion’s Club- where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow award as well as the distinguished service award. Fay was also a member of the Elks Lodge #41 and the VFW Post #2535. Fay loved being surrounded by his family and friends especially while camping. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 59 years; Winnie, his children; Mark & Natalie Heschke and Karen Schubauer, his grandchildren; Kaitlyn & Matthew Heschke, Jeremy, Andrew & Kara Schubauer, as well as a great granddaughter; Ava Schubauer. 6250 | February 1, 2014 Very Reverend Father George R. Aswad Niagara Gazette GRAND ISLAND - The Very Reverend Father George R. Aswad, of Grand Island, NY, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014, in Hospice Buffalo. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on December 7, 1926 the son of the late Fred and Fahda (Sorour) Aswad. Fr. George served in World War II enlisting into the Navy in 1944 and served aboard the USS Helena. He toured a round-the-world cruise in 1946 and was discharged in August 1946 from the Navy. He was employed in the traffic office at Hooker Chemical Corporation and was a regular and special education teacher in the Niagara Falls Public School System. Rev. Aswad graduated from Niagara Falls High School and earned a Bachelors Degree from Niagara University. In 1967, he graduated from Buffalo State College with a Master of Science in Education. Fr. George was ordained as a deacon in 1961 having completed studies in the St. Stephen's School of Theology and then elevated to the priesthood in 1965. He faithfully served the parishioners of St. George Orthodox Church in Lewiston, NY, retiring in 1996, and continued on to serve as Priest Emeritus. Fr. George was elevated to Archpriest and was the recipient of the Antonian Gold Medal of Merit. Fr. George was a devoted Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. He enjoyed participating in sports, particularly running, and was an avid swimmer. He will be remembered for his vision, kind and caring heart, and gift for helping others. Fr. George is truly loved and cherished by his family who brought him great happiness and pride. Fr. George is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Khouryee Grace (Bishara) Aswad, they were married on February 10, 1957 at St. George Orthodox Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He was blessed with five daughters, Lynn (George) Wood of Paxton, MA, Laura (Jeff) Colyer of Cincinnati, OH, Louise (Bill) Snyder of North East, PA, Lisa (Mike) Dudley of Grand Island, NY and Lana (Paul) Dudley of Alexander, NY; eleven grandchildren, Jessica (Tracy), Jeana, Matthew, Andrew, Ryan, Rachel, Kara, Eric, Amber and Alyssa; two great-grandchildren, AJ and Jeffrey; two brothers, Samuel (late Patricia) and Dr. Alfred (Anna) Aswad. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family will be present at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church,1073 Saunders Settlement Road, Niagara Falls, NY, on Sunday from 3-7 PM and on Monday from 4-7 PM, Trisagion Prayers will be held on Sunday and Monday at 6:00 PM. The Funeral for a Priest will be Monday at 7 PM. The Divine Liturgy will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:15 AM, with His Grace Bishop ALEXANDER officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to St. George's Church. Internment with Military Honors will be in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
