6771 | From Adamsdross@aol.com I am looking at my property deed. In it will of John Wendler. Dated 8-1-1911 John devises all of his personal property and estate to: His 9 children; Anna Eshelman, August Wendler, Gustavus Wendler, John Wendler, William F. Willian F. Wendler, Minnie Bollman, Emma BAld, Matilda Phillips and Elsie Altro. Note Altro is a shortened version of Altrogge. IN our nearby cemetery, the two are mixed on the same lot. John Wendler has a prominent stone ht e Clarence Center cemetery. The stone has a big anchor on it which I suppose symbolizes something. This John Wendler at one time owned the land which I a sitting on. Of course it was part of a big farm then. He bought the land in 1891. The probate lists the children with his WIDOW, Louisa. Also Gustave W. Wendler died insteatate on or about 12-12-1916. Leaving his wife Elizabeth M., Ellen R. Wendler 20 years of age, Burton J. Wendler aged 14 years. Affidavit of John Wendler. Tah he is the son of John Wendler that Louisa Wender, his mother died on or about 3-26-1922. Sworn 4-27-1928 Affidavit of Matilda M Phillipps That she is a daughter of John Wendler and that John Wendler died in May 1914 leaving a will and testament. That Gustavus W. Wendler, son of John died in 1916. also That Matilda M. Phillipps, dau. of John if the wife of Edwin L. Philipps. Affadvit given 4-26-1928. John Wendler John's son was the executor of the will of his dad. He conveys the property to Robert Eichinger and Katherine his wife. They conveyed the property fo Ida Christiansen to conveyed it to Florence Eichinger who conveeyed it to Howard and Florence, His wife. The premises conveyed are not the big farm that Mr. John Wendler and Louisa started with. Along the awy parts were sold off. Howard and Florence, I knew them personally, conveyed the property, bare land. to Paul and Patrica Leous. They split up be the property reverted to Howard and Florence. They sold the and to my wife and myself, in 1973. Florence and Howard were siblings. Florence married Mr. Gieb. They then gave lots to their children. That is why across from us, there were 3 Gieb families. One moved away due to divorce but we have two nice neighbors now. You may be able to make some connections with these Wendlers. The children of John and Louisa and their progeny are still around the North Clarence area and nearby Niagara Co. Tge land is just, literally, a stones throw across the creek from Niagara Co. | WENDLER, John (I90220)

This could be another BINGGELI facing an English scribe. Could he be the Johannes BINKLEY who m. Margaretha WIESBACH? (3) Rupp's Thirty Thousand Names, page 436 [p. 438 in 1880 edition], makes a reference to the arrival of "Johannes BINCKLEY" and "Felix LANDIS" during 1719; no source is given for this statement. LANDIS shows up in taxes but BINKLEY doesn't appear in taxes, or lists of first owners, nor in the extensive discussion of Mennonite immigration given in Eshleman's ...Annals of Pioneer Settlers...; BINKLEY's first appearance in original records is 1737 in the deeds book when he gets the mill from Felix LANDIS. Another thought from peter@wallandbinkley.com: I've got a little on Hans Michael Binkley that may not be common. (In these notes I've replaced o-umlaut with oe): From Annette Kunselman Burgert, _Eighteenth Century Emigrants from German-Speaking Lands to North America, vol. II: The Western Palatinate_ (Publications of the Pennsylvania German Society, Vol. XIX; Birdsboro, Penn.: The Pennsylvania German Society, 1985). [This book tries to connect passenger lists with European parish registers, which often have entries like "went to America"] p. 51: no. 40 [his entry in the Oliver's register, I think] Binckle, Michael age 23 Moersbach Oliver, 1735 [=ship]; S-H, I.153-154 [= Strassburger & Hinke, Penn. German Pioneers, 3 vols (1934) European Records: Lambsborn Reformed KB [=Kirchenbuch]: Hans Binckeli and wife Barbara of Moerschbach had: Joh. Michael bp. 12 June 1712 Conf. 1726: Johann Michael Binckel, sone of Hans Binckel from Moerschbach. Kreb, "Pennsylvania Dutch Pioneers", in Boyer, 158: "Michael Binckle (Benckle), son of Hanns Binckli of Moersbach, 'went to America' (about 1734). The family was of Swiss origin - the official papers mention an aunt of the emigrant who died in Canton Berne." (end of notes) So this Hans Michael Binkley came from a family who had moved to the Palatinate from Switzerland, probably after the 30 Years War when this area was devastated and attracted settlers. I think his name suggests that his family had acculturated to the Rhineland: in that area you always find boys christened with Johannes as their first name, and they use their middle name, as Hans Michael seems to have done (and the same for girls, who get Maria as their first name). I didn't see this naming pattern in the Swiss records. Has anyone else seen Burgert's book? Have any more in this series been published? The name Binkley is of Alamanic origin, probably being Binggelli, Bingli, etc. before it was distorted into it's present form to make it sound English, which took time as there are 40 odd variations of spelling the name during the first 100 years in America. The Alemannic were a group of German tribes that put in a lot of time making life interesting for the Roman Empire during the Third Century, and for some time after They settled in a section of South West Germany and Switzerland, and in later years, when Luther and Zwingli appeared, they gave considerable time and attention to changing the religious outlook of that period and day. | BINKLEY, John (I12086)

6794 | From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia George Michael Steinbrenner III (July 4, 1930 – July 13, 2010) was the principal owner and managing partner of Major League Baseball's New York Yankees. During Steinbrenner's 37-year ownership from 1973 to his death in July 2010, the longest in club history, the Yankees earned 7 World Series titles and 11 pennants. His outspokenness and role in driving up player salaries made him one of the sport's most controversial figures. Steinbrenner was also involved in the Great Lakes shipping industry. continued later..... Steinbrenner was born in Rocky River, Ohio, the only son of Rita (née Haley) and Henry George Steinbrenner II, who had been a world-class track and field hurdler while at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, from which he graduated in engineering in 1927, first in his class.[4] The elder Steinbrenner later became a wealthy shipping magnate who ran the family firm operating freight ships hauling ore and grain on the Great Lakes. George III was named after his paternal grandfather, George Michael Steinbrenner II.[4] Steinbrenner has two younger sisters, Susan and Judy.[4] Steinbrenner entered Culver Military Academy, in Northern Indiana, in 1944, and graduated in 1948. He received his B.A. from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1952. While at Williams, George was an average student who led an active extracurricular life. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was an accomplished hurdler on the varsity track and field team, and served as sports editor of The Williams Record, played piano in the band, and played halfback on the football team in his senior year.[5] He joined the United States Air Force after graduation, was commissioned a second lieutenant and was stationed at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio. Following honorable discharge in 1954, he did post-graduate study at Ohio State University (1954-55), earning his master's degree in physical education. He met his wife-to-be, Elizabeth Joan (pronounced Jo-Ann) Zieg, in Columbus, and married her on May 12, 1956.[5] The couple had two sons Hank Steinbrenner and Hal Steinbrenner, and two daughters Jessica Steinbrenner and Jennifer Steinbrenner-Swindal. | STEINBRENNER, George Michael (I39959)

6796 | From: RANDOOW@aol.com Date: Sat, 21 Feb 2009 12:35:08 -0500 Subject: Wittkopf spelling corrections To: 77tj81a13@cfl.rr.com; fhaseley@hotmail.com; fhaseley@surewest.net; BGenewich@aol.com; tdevantie@yahoo.dk; Etimm01@aol.com; vbjay_adelphia1@comcast.net; alanmoll@verizon.net; rhaseley@comcast.net; SIEZEM@aol.com; Betsy3317@aol.com; PaMaWinter@roadrunner.com With much appreciated help from Elaine Timm, I think we have found correct spelling and parents of Caroline and twin sister Eulianna Wittkopf who both married Fred W Jagow. Caroline arrived on 25 Nov 1868 on the Bark Jenny from Bremen, Germany with her parents and siblings. They came from Rothenklempenow, Pommern, Prussia. Johann Wittkopf 1820 Wilhelmina Marie ver Koppen 1828 Ernestine 1848 *Caroline 1850 Wilhelm 1853 Augustus 1858 Gustavus 1861 Bertha/Bella 1863 Carl/Charles 1867 Carolines twin sister Eulianna 1850 remained in Prussia until 1885. In 1870 census Caroline was married to Fred W Jagow and living with Freds father Christian who was 72. The rest of her family was living in Bergholz with oldest sister Ernestine who married a grocer Henry Faustin ? 1840. Hard to make out last name on census. Several of the Wittkopf's made a move to Ramsey, North Dakota and in 1900 census father Johann and mother Wilhelmine, (listed 11 kids/6 living), were living next to son Wilhelm and his wife Augusta and kids and also next to son Charles/Carl and his wife Helen. They were all listed as farmers. Two of Wilhelms kids were born in New York before 1884 and the third was born in 1888 in North Dakota so they moved sometime between those years. Father Johann returned to Bergholz after his wife Wilhelmine died in ND in 1905, Johann passed in 1906 in Bergholz. Carolines twin sister Eulianna 1850 came to US in 1885 married to a Wilhelm Wittkopf 1828, same spelling of last name, they were married in 1885 and lived in Martinsville and he was listed as a woodcarver in the 1900 census. Unknown if this Wilhelm was a relative, they had no children, he was 57 and she was 35 when they came in 1885. Wilhelm died in 1905 and is buried in St Paul's cemetery. Fred W Jagow's wife Caroline died in 1907 and married twin sister Eulianna in 1908. Eulianna died in 1919 and is buried in front of her first husband Wilhelm Wittkopf in St Pauls. Her obit lists her as Nancy Jagow wife of Fred W Jagow ( formerly wife of Wilhelm Wittkopf ) and her stone has both Nanne and Eulianna on it. I have changed my tree to reflect this new information and spelling on the Wittkopf name and continue to look for additional information.
