6901 | Geneva NY Daily Times - 12/27/1971 PENN YAN - Mrs. Edna L. Bellis, 54, of RD 4, Penn Yan, died unexpectedly yesterday at her home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Weldon Funeral Home. The Rev. Howard T. Akland, pastor of United Church in Hall, will officiate. Burial will be in Gorham Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p. m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Christ, Hall, or to the Heart Fund. Mrs. Bellis was a life resident of the Town of Benton. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Lizzie Craig Peck. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Hall, of which she was treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the Church Guild and Adult Fellowship. At the time of her death she was employed by Robson Quality Seeds in Hall. Surviving are her husband, George; one son, Robert G. of Waterloo; one stepson, Gerald E. Curtis of Chattanooga, Term.; one brother, Robert J. 6902 | Geneva NY Daily Times - 12/9/1974 GORHAM - Maurice (Bob) Gage was honored at a retirement party held at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James (Sandy) Brodnicki in Stanley on Sunday, Dec. 1 from 2 to 6 p.m. Mr. Gage will retire on Dec. 27 after working for 32 years at Comstock Foods in Rushville. , Mr. Gage was born and raised in the town of Gorham and is the son of the late Lorenzo and Maude Gage. He joined the Comstock Company in 1942 as part of the field department. In later years he was an interplant truck driver and at the present time is towmotor operator. Approximately 100 friends and relatives attended the surprise party in his honor hosted by his family, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Gage of Middlesex; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gage of Canandaigua, Mr. and Mrs. James (Sandy) Brodnicki, Stanley and Miss Patricia Gage who lives at home with her parents on the Gorham Rushville Road. The Gage family has lived in their present home on the late William Rex farm for 28 years. Mr. Gage received many gifts including a money tree presented to him by his co-workers. 6903 | Geneva NY Daily Times - 2/13/1948 Clifton Springs, Feb. 13-Mrs. Mary Kavanaugh Benham, 92, widow of Edward H. Benham, died yesterday in her home on Broad St. Friends may call at Weld's funeral home, 26 Main S t Services will be held there Monday at 9 a. m. and at 9:30 in St. Felix Catholic church. Rev. Emmett Dougherty will officiate. Burial will be in Clifton Springs cemetery. Mrs. Benham had been in poor health for the past four years but up until her passing had retained all her faculties. She was the daughter of James and Rose Burns Kavanaugh and was born in Auburn, May 26, 1656, the oldest of a family of six children, none of whom are now living. When she was two years old, the family moved to Phelps where Mrs. Benham lived until her marriage. On January 20, 1874. she was married to Edward H. Benham of Canandaigua by Rev. Patrick Lee at the Catholic rectory in Clifton Springs. Following their marriage, Mr. Benham engaged in farming for about one year and then went to Clifton Springs where she had since resided - a period of about 73 years. I Mrs. Benham had a wonderful 'memory and could recall all the Interesting happenings in the history of Clifton Springs - the growth of the sanitarium was of great interest to her. She had a sympathetic interest in people which won for her a welcome in the homes of neighbors and friends and in any gathering. She was a great lover of children and young people and was called Grandma Benham by both young and old. Mrs. Benham was the mother of five children, George S., who died in 1017; Mrs. John N. (Vina) Walters, who died in 1936; and surviving, Mrs. Paul (Elizabeth; Webb of Tully; Miss Jennie M. Benham of Clifton Springs- and Mrs. George R. (Edna) Huested of Geneva, formerly of Mannsville. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Mrs. Herbert Smart of Gasport; Mrs, Kenneth Hessel of Middleport; Mrs. D. E. Steinbaught of Canandaigua; Mrs. Henry Hadley of Geneva; Charles Edward Webb of Tully and Mrs. Robert Langley and eight great grandchildren: Francis Brown of Gasport; Richard and Jolene Steinbaugh of Canandaigua; Vina Ann Hadley of Geneva; Paul, Mary and Faustina Webb of Tully and Virginia E. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending word from a brother in Arizona. Mr. Biddle was born in Ovid, Oct. 1907. He was the son of Ernest Biddle and the late Mary Biddle of Ovid. A painter by trade, he was appointed South Seneca County Dog Warden in 1957. He was a member of Painters Local 179, Geneva. Mrs. Bellis was born in Newburgh on August 15, 1856 and was 74 years ' of age. She has been a resident of ' Dundee for about 57 years. In early life she married Henry Glover of Dundee. Seventeen years ago, she was united in marriage to Edward 4 Bellis also of Dundee. Mr. Bellis died December 8. 1930. His body was removed from the vault in Hillside cemetery and on Sunday a double funeral was held at the home on Stall street. Rev. George Mc- Culloch, pastor of the Dundee Presbyterian church officiated. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery. In 1958 she received a 50-year pin in acknolwedgment of the years she had spent in service to the sanitarium and clinic. Lewis, a jeweler in Little Falls for many years. After his father's death, Mr. Lewis for a number of years continued the business and then 18 years ago, he moved to Waterloo where he owned and managed the Lewis Jewelry Store. He was educated in Little Falls High School and married Loretta A. Beauchamp in 1935 at the home of his parents. He was a veteran of World War II. a member of First Methodist Church, Waterloo, and he belonged to the American Legion VFW; Masonic Lodge of Waterloo and Little Falls, the Ziyara Temple, Shriners of utica; Lyons Club of Waterloo. He was a charter member of the Little Falls. lions Club and its first president. On Nov. 4, 1009, he married Lucy Taylor of Hammondsport of Taylor Wine family, who died Sept. 20, 1960. They had one daughter Rosalie Mendall who died in September of 1964. Mr. Zimmer was employed by NYS Electric and Gas Corp. until his retirement. He was a 50-year member of the Steuben Lodge 112 F & AM in Bath. He was a life member of the Geneva Lodge of Elks, the Rod and Gun Club, the Conservation Club, Twin City Camera Club of Shortsville, the Photographic Society of America and the Retirement Association of the NYS Electric and Gas Corp. Mr. Zimmer had two hobbies, photography and the raising of orchids. For many years he had a large greenhouse at his home. He also was a bird lover and had many houses and feeders for them. He was a life member of the National Muzzle-loading Rifle Association and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Regional Pioneer Gas Engine Association. He was a retired employee of Dresser-Rand Co., and a member of the American Legion of Penn Yan, and the Penn Yan Loyal Order of the Moose. Surviving are his wife, Mary Bodine Briggs; one son, Gordon C.
