7051 | GIRL DIES FROM THE NOSE BLEED Gertrude Ellman, seven years old. daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Herman Ellman of 74 Washington street, died at the DeGraff Memorial hospital yesterday morning after a mysterious illness, lasting since Friday evening. The girl was stricken with a nose bleed. All efforts on the part of physicians to stop the flow of blood failed. Internal hemorrhages developed Saturday evening and the child was removed to the hospital. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the late residence and half an hour later from St. Marks Lutheran church on Washington street. Rev. Paul Fretthold officiating. 7052 | Girl Found Strangled North Tonawanda, June 9. - Special, - Miss Elsie Krueger, eighteen year old daughter of Edward Krueger of the Krueger road, town of Wheatfield, was found dead In her bedroom at the home of Sidney D. Stafford, this morning. Strangulation is given as the cause of death. Coroner Kittinger of Lockport gave the cause as accidental death. Miss Krueger was employed at the Stafford home as a maid. She spent last evening out, returning shortly before midnight. She was subject to epileptic fits and it is the opinion of the attending physicians that she fell against the bedstead while in a fit and her neck resting on tho top of the bedstead shut off her breathing, resulting in strangulation. 7053 | GITZEN - Mary F., Ph.D. (Hewett Roblin) Age 66, of West Lafayette, IN, died Friday evening, June 22, 2012, while she and her husband were returning home to West Lafayette from out of state. She was born October 14, 1945 in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth Yensan Hewett. Mary did her undergraduate work at D'Youville College, a Masters at SUNY Buffalo and taught English in Buffalo high schools for 22 years. In 1993 Mary came to Purdue University as a Liberal Arts graduate student, earning her Ph.D. Afterwards, Dr. Gitzen taught at Purdue in the Oral English Proficiency Program, until recently. Her marriage was to James F. "Jim" Gitzen on March 4, 2000 in West Lafayette and he survives. She and her husband have been very active with the ComeBye Border Collie Rescue group, fostering and finding homes for many Border Collies. Surviving with her husband Jim are three brothers, William Hewett (Marian) of West Hartford, CT, James Hewett (Kathy) of Sarasota, FL, and Donald Hewett of Houston, TX; one sister, Elizabeth Hewett of Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother David. Private family services will be held. Mrs. Beutel was born April 11, 1913 in North Tonawanda, daughter of the late Gustav and Emma Bartel. Mrs. Beutel was a life long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a member of it's Ladies Aid Society and Friendship Club. She was also a member of the Newfane Senior Citizens. Mrs. Beutel loved gardening, baking, writing poetry, sewing and quilting. Mrs. Beutel is predeceased by her husband the late Hubert T. Beutel who passed away in 1991. (Helen) and Edna [Haseley] Kroening. Mrs. Haseley was a graduate of LaSalle High School. She was the bookkeeper with Pils Service in Lockport for many years. Mrs. Haseley was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church Walmore, where she taught Sunday School, was active in the Women's Group and quilted for Lutheran World Relief. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid bowler. Mrs. Haseley was the wife of the late Benjamin W. Haseley, who passed away in 2007. She is survived by her children, Jacqueline (Clifford) Blank, Donna (late Frank) Licursi, Terry ( Debra) Haseley, Patrice (John) Elnicki, a sister in law Norma Kroening, also seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Harold (Janet), Gilbert, Sharon and Richard Kroening. Born in Birmingham, England on July 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence A. (Shaw) Branson. She married Louis C. LaCivita in 1946 in Birmingham, England. Mr. LaCivita predeceased her on September 29, 2015. Gladys attended schools in England and Doyle Beauty School in Buffalo, NY. Gladys was a hairdresser in Niagara Falls for many years. She was also employed by Kimberly Clark, Nabisco Shredded Wheat, and as a hall monitor for LaSalle Senior High School, all in Niagara Falls. Gladys was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and Canadian Legion, where she enjoyed ballroom dancing wither her husband. She also liked knitting, and crocheting. Most of all, Gladys was a loving caregiver to her family. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Karen A. (Brian K.) Bovanizer, two grandchildren, Todd M. Bovanizer and Scott D. (Casey) Bovanizer, five grandchildren, Jordan, Dillon, Collin, Maddox, and Sebastian, as well several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. On October 25, 1969, she married James Palmeri, Jr. at St. Joseph Church. Mr. Palmeri predeceased her on May 18, 2016 after 46 years of marriage. She was employed with Fairchild Manor in Laundry, and later with Voyager Emblem in Lockport, NY, where she worked as a patch maker for 15 years. Gladys enjoyed playing Bingo. Above all, she was extremely family oriented, and loved spending time with her grandchildren, who referred to her lovingly as Nana. Gladys had been visiting Jan in Redondo Beach, CA when she was taken ill. She was born in Niagara Falls on August 9, 1925, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Krauzowicz) Janik.Gladys was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School where she was very proud to be a cheerleader. She was a member of the former Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church and their Mother's Club and was a Board Member of the former Porta-Niagara Girls Club. Gladys was a talented seamstress sewing not only clothing but also beautiful draperies. She was an avid reader and loved gardening, especially tending to her roses and rock garden. Gladys worked alongside her husband, the late John H. Labuda, in their family owned business, the Labuda Funeral Home, for many years. They enjoyed traveling together in their retirement and especially enjoyed summers with their beloved grandchildren at their cottage in Turkey Point, Ontario, Canada. Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, John H. Labuda who passed away on February 14, 2000. She was the loving mother of Edward J. (Diana) Labuda, Kathleen M. (Merle) Long, Elizabeth A. (Michael) Brady and Jan J. She also had been active with the Niagara County 4H Program for many years. Mrs. DeVantier enjoyed gardening, bowling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Buffalo News, The (NY) - October 7, 1997 Gladys Milleville, an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a longtime Sunday school teacher, died Sunday (Oct. 5, 1997) in Lockport Memorial Hospital. She was 64. The former Gladys DeVantier, who lived on Lockport Road, was born in the Town of Niagara. She worked as a medical secretary from 1950 to 1959 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Mrs. Milleville was involved in teaching Sunday school, was a member of the choir and of the Women of the Church group at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Wheatfield. She enjoyed quilting and sewing. Survivors include her husband, Donald; four sons, Thomas of Sanborn, Deron of Columbus, OH, and Joel and Todd; a daughter, Barbara of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, Elmer DeVantier of Pekin; a sister, Lydia Mueller; and two grandchildren. Glee was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on November 3, 1925, the daughter of the late Lester A. and Rose [Koithan] Wagner. Mrs. Treichler graduated from LaSalle High School. She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church and the Sanborn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Treichler enjoyed card club at church, traveling, crocheting and sewing. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Treichler, who died in June of 2000. 7066 | Glen Earl Hewitt, 58, of Lewiston, NY, entered into rest on Thursday, May 28, 2009 in Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born on December 14, 1950 in Lewiston, NY, he was the son of the late Donald and Betty (Keppen) Hewitt.Glen grew up on Upper Mountain Road in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston-Porter High School in 1969. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and just being in the woods. Glen shot his first buck at the age of 17. He especially loved hunting with his dad and his Uncle Al, and many fishing expeditions with his family to Buckhorn, Ontario.Glen had a lifelong fascination for anything that had an engine and was skilled in repairing just about everything. His talents also included, carpentry, plumbing, electrical; a true jack-of-all-trades. Countless family, friends and neighbors were blessed by his many skills. His irreplaceable experience and advice on all sorts of projects will be sorely missed.Glen's other love was singing. He shared his gift of music at many weddings, funerals and church. It was even reported that he sung under anesthesia once. He was currently a member of the United Baptist-Christian Church of Lewiston and a former member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and the former First Christian Church of Niagara Falls.Glen will be remembered as a gregarious, fun-loving, Christian man, who lived a simple, yet rich life.Glen is survived by one son, Scot (Lynn) Hewitt of Lewiston, NY; one daughter, Patricia Hewitt of Niagara Falls, NY; and two grandsons, Mackenzie and Evan Hewitt, both of Lewiston, NY. 7077 | Glenn L. Wendt of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017, in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, NY. He was born at home in Sanborn on May 7, 1930, the son of the late William B. and Grace E. (Wendt) Wendt. Mr. Wendt attended Trott Vocational High School. He worked with his uncle at Wendt Frozen Foods in Buffalo before taking over the family farm and sold Minneapolis Moline tractors. Mr. Wendt worked construction with Smith Brothers and became an operating engineer with Operating Engineer Local 463, until retiring in 1995. He was a life-member of the Sanborn Fire Company, where he served as President and Fire Chief. He had been on every truck committee since 1966 up until the two last fire trucks were purchased. He was active in all the fire companies' activities. Mr. Wendt served as Past President of Niagara County Fire Chiefs Association, FASNY and many other fire related associations. He was a member of the Sanborn Historical Society and Holy Ghost Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and NASCAR. Glenwood was a founding member of the Wheatfield Plumbing Board, and served as a plumbing inspector. Glenwood was a charter member of the Wheatfield Lion's Club. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Mario F. and Pauline (Zuccari) Cortellini. Gloria attended local schools and was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. She was employed with National Fuel Company in Niagara Falls for 40 years in the Human Resources Division. She also was the proprietor of For All Occasions in Niagara Falls for 20 years. Gloria enjoyed gardening, tending to her home and spending time with her family especially her nieces and nephews. Gloria was predeceased by her sister, Geraldine (Virgil) Cross. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Gary (Kim) Cross, Virgil (Dina) Cross and Gloria (Lee) Coleman as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews, 1 great-great-nephew, 1 great- great-niece and several cousins. Gloria enjoyed cooking particularly for her family, who she loved spending time with, especially her grandchildren. 7096 | Gloversville NY Leader Herald - 11/11/1970 BUFFALO (AP) - An automobile smashed into a bridge abutment then was backed 50 yards across a boulevard into a creek Sunday in the suburban Town of Tonawanda, police said. Two bodies were later found in the car. Patrolman Robert J. Rowland of the Town of Tona wanda said he arrived at the scene moments after the car hit the abutment. He said he asked the driver to get out. The driver, later identified as Alvin H. Cretsinger of Amherst, "muttered something," Rowland said, then backed the car into Ellicott Creek. Officers said the bodies of Cretsinger, 66, and Estelle Rexicker, 62, of the City of Tonawanda were found when the car was pulled from the water.
