I have gotten busy with summer projects so cancelled my subscription and will pick it up in the winter when I'm more homeward bound!

Please print this out, as you know computers do strange things and the poof, this copy will be gone. this is a lot of work and if I died prematurly (I'm 43) then I'd hate for anyone else to have to do this work again! Print it out, copy it or forward this email to other family members. Please send me any corrections or updates. thanks.

P.S. I live in Colorado Springs, CO if anyone is passing thru - I'd love to meet you.

7477 Hey, Char,

It was great hearing from a Lauer almost--sister-in-law! :-)

I checked my McCollum file and I found Thelma's obituary. I'll transcribe it for you.

Thelma J. Schul
Cake judge, decorator for more than 25 years

SANBORN--Thelma J. (McCollum) Schul, 79, of Cambria Road died Friday (July 30, 1993) in Lockport Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Youngstown on July 6,1914, the daughter of Abrahm [Abram] Day and Minnie M. (Austin) McCollum, both now deceased.

For more than 25 years, Mrs. Schul was a professional cake decorator, instructor and judge at many international cake shows.

She is survived by her busband, Roy H. Schul of Sanborn; two sons, William D. [Day] Fedder and Carl E. Schul, both of Sanborn; four daughters, Joanne [or Joan] R. [Ruth] [Fedder] Brewer of Lowell, Ind., Judith K. [Kay] [Fedder] Heppner of North Tonawanda, Jeanne [Jeanne M. Fedder] of Rome, Ga, and Julie Ann Schul-Bliven of Lockport; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephes.

She was the mother of Mary Jan Fedder, and sister of the late A. J. Melville and Kenneth McCollum.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5983 Hoover Road, where services will be conducted at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton.

Note: I also have the obituary on her second husband Roy H. Schul in 1966. I'm certain that was a typo and was meant to be 1996 in that it said he was the widower of Thelm J. McCollum, who died on July 30, 1993.

Note: I don't have information on the date of Thelma's marriage to Patrick Fedder. However their first(?) child William Day Fedder was born Feb. 20, 1930.

I'm copying Mary with this message and when both of you receive it, let me know of your connections to the McCollum family. Yes Mary I'm certain that the Town of Porter families descend from Scotland; however as hard as I tried, we can't find a definite connection. The farthest back we could go is to Joseph McCollum, born February 24, 1785 in either NJ or PA. Probably NJ.

I have Thelma's pedigree in my genealogy database and I'll send it to both of you if you wish.

This is pretty cool, isn't it?? :-)

7479 Hi Char,

Thanks for the quick response.

If you want to update your info to the latest we have, you can change John Kannarr's birthdate to 15 Aug 1829. We calculated this from the tombstone inscription we visited and photographed in 1998. Also, all the information we have on his birthplace (the 1960 and 1970 census) indicate Pennsylvania. We have no idea how he was shown to have been born in Lee, IL. We know he was living in Lee County, IL, when the 1870 census was taken and that is where he married Rhoda Bennett Walker, a widower with three daughters. We have been unable to prove or disprove this information. As you might guess, finding John Kannarr's parents has consumed some 10 plus years with no positive results.

If you are interested in all of John's descendants that we have been able to locate and document, I would be happy to send you a .ged file that you could use as you see fit.

Eva Mae Scherer Kannarr was born in Chapman, Dickinson, KS, rather than Geary county. We have no idea where this came from either.

Again, thanks for your response and happy hunting.

7480 Hi Char,

I am not connected to this family myself - they were neighbors and friends of my mother and grandmother in the Bronx. I also have photographs of them - if you are related to this family or want to put me in touch with the person who asked you to look them up I would be happy to forward the photos. I saw some of your information online but there was not anything on Frank and Katherine Steinbrenner past the fact that they were married. I will tell you what I know - not many "facts" you can’t find on ancestry but some background on them as to where they lived etc. I don't mind if you put it online.

I assume you have access to census records online. Here is the basics that I could find myself.

It appears from census records that Frank Steinbrenner emigrated to the US in 1883. The only one I could find who fits his description etc. is as follows. It appears he was not traveling with any other family members. - occupation listed as Laborer.

Name: Franz Steinbrenner Arrival Date: 27 Aug 1883 Estimated Birth Year: 1866 Age: 17 Gender: Male Port of Departure: Antwerp, Belgium Destination: United States of America Place of Origin: Germany Ship Name: S Daniel Stenmann Port of Arrival: New York Line: 13 Microfilm Roll: 469 List Number: 1092

1900 Census, New York, Bronx

Name: Frank Steinbrenner Home in 1900: Bronx, New York, New York Age: 34 Estimated birth year: 1866 Birthplace: Germany Race: White Relationship to head-of-house: Head Occupation: View Image Immigration year: 1883 Image source: Year: 1900; Census Place: Bronx, New York, New York; Roll: T623 1124; Page: 16A; Enumeration District: 974.

I find a Frank Steinbrenner living in the Bronx with a wife Mary - it appears it might be the same person. I know nothing about a wife named Mary - it says they had one child born, one child living at the time but no children are listed on the census.

For some reason I cannot find Frank Steinbrenner on the 1910 Census.

1920 Census, New York, Bronx

Name: Frank Steinbrenner Age: 53 years Estimated birth year: 1866 Birthplace: Germany Race: White Home in 1920: Bronx, Bronx, New York Home owned: Roll: T625_1140 Page: 1B ED: 383 Image: 0710

At that time he was married to Katherine and it listed their two children, Eleanor and Francis. My parents were great friends with both children - in each other’s weddings etc.

It appears from the 1920 census that Katherine’s sister lived in the same house/building with Katherine and family. Her sister was Mary "Mamie" and was married to Alfred Holer - they had two children at the time - Pearl and Doris. They also visited Edgewater Park and joined in all the parties there.

Frank Steinbrenner must have died between 1920 and 1930 but I don’t know exactly when - Katherine is listed as a widow in 1930.

1930 Census

Name: Katherine Steinbrenner Age: 38 Estimated birth year: abt 1892 Birthplace: Massachusetts Relation to head-of-house: Head Race: White Home in 1930: Bronx, Bronx, New York

1930; Census Place: Bronx, Bronx, New York; Roll: 1477; Page: ; Enumeration District: 422; Image: 622.0.

As you will see on the census pages, Frank and Katherine had two children - Eleanor and Francis.

Some time after 1930 the family moved to a place called Edgewater Park in Bronx, New York and lived next door to my grandmother. Katherine, who we knew as Kitty, was a bubbly wonderful woman. She remarried to a man named "Fritz" Mey and they had one son, Robert, who was born early 1930s. Mr. Mey was a window washer on the skyscrapers in NYC and he died when the scaffolding broke and he fell to his death.

I spent a great deal of time with my grandparents in the summers when I was growing up. Their house and Kitty’s was located directly on the waterfront near the Throggs Neck Bridge in the Bronx. Kitty was our driver to Mass every Sunday. Do you know anything about the Bronx? Where do you live? I could go into a little more detail on Edgewater Park but you may not be interested in all that so let me know.

As to Frank and Katherine’s son Francis "Frank" Steinbrenner, he married a woman named Marion. They did not have any children.

Name: Frank X. Steinbrenner SSN: 057-09-0090 Last Residence: 10461 Bronx, Bronx, New York, United States of America Born: 31 Jul 1918 Died: 9 Apr 1990 State (Year) SSN issued: New York (Before 1951 )

You have him listed on your online information but without parents. This will connect that information with Frank and Katherine.

As to Frank and Kataherine’s daughter Eleanor Steinbrenner - she married Frank Lang and they had one son Jeffrey. My sister may remember more about them. I don’t know exactly where they ended up but I have pictures of them.

If you would like to write back, please feel free or put me in contact with anyone interested in the family and their way of life/photographs.

7481 Hi Char,

Johann Georg, born in 1812, is my husband's ggg grandfather. Angelika married John Hoepker in Wisconsin and had a daughter, Margaret, who married Bernhard Vahlen. Their daughter, Maude, married my husband's grandfather, Albert Anthon. (Still looking for the Vahlens prior to Bernhard's father, Gerhardt). Thank you for passing my name to Don Schwenk. I'm looking forward to hearing from him. Are you descended from Laichingen, also?

7482 Hi Char, Yes. She was married to my great-uncle William Nathaniel Hege. They are a hard bunch to research. I only found you after I found Reatha Baloun in an old address book I have. I'm not really sure that Alice or Bill Hege would have had social security numbers. I do believe they lived in Inglewood, CA and Alice owned a cabin in Big Bear, CA outside of Los Angeles. Also, I know we are on the right track, because, my Mom mentioned the name Winkleman to me before and that is what caught my attention. Good luck searching. Judy

Do you mean that Alice re-married after her husband Noah Winkleman died? I can find no record of any of these people in the Social Security Death Index???

Hi, My name is Judy. I have been researching my family roots and found your info regarding Alice Winkleman. My family called her "Aunt Honey". She married my Grandfather's brother William Nathaniel Hege. I think he died in the late 40's or early to late 50's. My Grandfather, Manville Baker Hege died May 3, 1961. I remember meeting Aunt Honey in Fresno, CA when I was a little child and again In Grass Valley, CA when I was 10 or 11. I also thought she had daughters with the names Twyla and Nadine. I remember of her talking about Twyla, Nadine and Reatha and assumed all 3 were her daughters.
I hope this is helpful to you and that this is a correct email address and you are not thinking who is this crazy person. Thank you for your time. Judy Kaunisto

7486 Hi, I've just recently started researching my father's family. I came across you site listing my grandparents Michael and Lillian Durrenberger. Only one child listed, my aunt Eleanor (Marion Eleanor Durrenberger). My father George and his twin brother Michael were also their children...born June 16, 1916. Uncle Michael died last year but my father is alive and doing reasonably well at ninety. Not sure if this something you can add to your lists...but I am very interested in our family history...I've also discovered some interesting name changes when the NY Durrenbergers settled in NJ... to Derryberry...in Long Valley NJ not far from my home in Hackettstown...I would like to hear from you...hope I'm on the right track...this is a new passion of mine and I'm having trouble getting started....also of note my father George Vincent's name was spelled Durenberger after enlisting in the US Coast Guard...something about his birth certificate not haveing t he correct spelling and our family has kept this spelling..I have two sisters and one brother... If you are interested and have the time I would love to hear from you. Thank you...Karen Elizabeth Durenberger d'Amby....

7487 Hi, my name is Ron Raleigh, and I have been involved in the search for my Raleigh Roots. If Genevieve is in your Tree, then there is an intersection for each of us here.
Genevieve was married to Carman R. Wessels of Brockport New York. In actual fact, he was my Step-Uncle. Carman had a half-brother by the name of Wyatt G. Raleigh. I didn't know if this is news to you, or not but, Carman was born Carman Raleigh, then soon after adopted by Mattie and Norris Wessels. This adoption may have taken place so fast that he was never a Raleigh. There were no Birth Certificates at that time. To put things in perspective, my father Wyatt was born about 1906, and Carman was born in 1909.The same Mother, Pearl Raleigh (unwed). Mattie Wessels was Mattie Raleigh, Pearl's sister, before she married Norris. She and Norris were childless; they took Carman.
As I said, Wyatt was my dad, and knew Carman and Genevieve. I had been to their house in Lockport a few times when I was young. I do remember that Aunt Gene (I thought it was Jean) was a School Teacher, and Carman looked a lot like my father.
I hope you get this and respond.
