8151 | Joan A. Thomas, 86, of Medina, passed away peacefully on Thursday May 14, 2020 at Absolut Care in Gasport, surrounded by family. Joan was born on September 16, 1933 and was a daughter of Vernon and Alice Krisher. She married the love of her life, John "Jack" A. Thomas, on June 18, 1971 who predeceased her on October 18, 2015. Joan was a graduate of Lyndonville High School and Houghton College. She taught at Lyndonville Central School for 30 plus years. Joan and Jack loved to travel around in their RV in their younger years and go on cruises with family later in life. In her free time, Joan loved to be outside working in her garden or playing her piano. She was dedicated to her church community and played organ and piano during Sunday services. After retirement, they lived in Florida during the winter months and loved to host family and friends in their Tarpon Springs home. In recent years, Joan looked forward to her Tuesday dinner dates with her granddaughter, Ashley. Joan is survived by her six children, Dawn (Anthony) Kwiatkowski, David (Bobbi) Huntington, Mark Thomas, Judy (Bill) Wright, Jeffrey (Debbie) Thomas and Jon Thomas; her grandchildren, which include Christopher, Darren, Nicole, Ashley, Nathan, Aaron, Kristen, Suzy, Ryan, Justin, Kayla, Tammy and Jay; her siblings, Suzanne Lorenz, Carol Fulcomer and Dan (Christine) Krisher; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to the love of her life, Jack, she was also predeceased by her parents, Vernon and Alice Krisher; her son, Douglas Huntington; and daughter, Jacquie Atkinson; her siblings, Vernon "Bud" Krisher, Margie Mapes and Diane Palmer. 8152 | Joan D. (Tompkins) Morgan, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 7, 2018. She was 86. She was born on April 6, 1932, a daughter of the late William and Anna (Murphy) Tompkins. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School and then graduated in the first nursing school class of Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital where she earned an award for “achievement and sincere devotion to the school of nursing”. Joan married John Morgan in 1966 and they remained happily married for 27 years until his passing in 1993. She held many positions during her long career at the hospital and retired in the position of cardiac teacher. Joan was greatly influenced in life by her mother Anna. Family tradition was very important to her as she always loved decorating the Tompkins Christmas Tree and coordinating the family gatherings. She was known to frequently drop “little pearls of wisdom” to everyone of her family members and friends, to remind them of Grandma’s wisdom. Joan was a devoted Christian and lived her faith values to the fullest, being the consummate nurse and caregiver to all family members, and reaching beyond to friends of family and neighbors. She touched many people with her quiet, caring ways and her gentle smile. She spent her life serving God by doing for others. Joan’s service to others was her crowning jewel. She is survived by three siblings: Patricia (Frank) Phillips, Kenneth (Charlotte) Tompkins and Robert (Sharon) Tompkins and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 7 siblings: Melvin Tompkins, Karolyn Tompkins, Grace Thompson, Reva Waddell, Doris Berthot, Ann Wood and Arlene Smiedala. Family will be present at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10 AM in Our Lady of Mt. 8153 | Joan D. Kramarczyk, a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, died on Tuesday January 27, 2015 in Buffalo General Hospital. She was 77. She was born in Niagara Falls on March 14, 1937, the daughter of Howard A. and Dorothy (Steer) Willick. She was a graduate of the former LaSalle Jr/Sr High School Class of 1955 and the Deaconess School of Nursing Class 1958. She was employed as a registered nurse for many years, retiring from Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in 2008. Prior to that, she worked for the former St. Mary’s Manor, DeVeaux Manor and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister. Joan enjoyed her nursing career, needlework and gardening. Survivors include her four children, Catherine Showalter; Joanne (Charles) Roffle; Charles C. Born in Wayland, NY, on July 26, 1926 to the late Burton and Lena (Barnhart) Carney. Joan was a graduate of Youngstown High School and the Kelley Business Institute. She was a woman ahead of her time raising her three young children along with working full time as a dispatcher at Harrison Radiator in Lockport after the death of her 1st husband, Charles C. Gray, in 1957. Joan loved crafts - seamstress, crocheting and needlepoint along with traveling and camping with her 2nd husband, Donald 'Dutch' Holland, who passed away April 21, 2009. Joan was a member of the Niagara Frontier Bible Church and the Ransomville Rural Retirees. She is survived by three children, Donna Gray of Youngstown, Charles Gray of Dayton, OH, and Donald (Deborah) Gray of Dunkinsville, PA; two stepchildren, Douglas (Connie) Holland and Debra Targon; two sisters, Donna Hohenasee and Arlene Finley; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. Joan enjoyed reading, needlepoint, cooking, gardening, quilting, playing cards and bingo, traveling, and her family. She was born in Lockport, N.Y. on April 16, 1939 the daughter of Jay and Dorothy (Baudenpistel) Garbutt. She is survived by Gary, her loving husband of 65 years and sons G. Jay and Jeffery, grandmother of Jay (Brandi) and Marisa (Sam) Robbins and great grandmother of Audrey Halstead, as well as several nephews and nieces, and her favorite cousin Rebecca Ott. She was predeceased by her brothers John (Penny) Garbutt, Robert (Sylvia) Garbutt and sister Sarah. Joan always had a pet chihuahua since her teenage years and leaves behind her beloved pet Dickens. She worked at the Mongomery Ward and Sample Shop before raising a family. Joan enjoyed playing cards and organized a long running Bid Pitch card club at the Eagles. She also enjoyed organizing class reunions. She was a firm advocate for the rights of nursing home residents. She made a difference. Joan was an accomplished golfer and was club champion at the Lockport Town and Country Club as well as Senior champion at the Chestnut Meadow League at the Niagara County Golf Course. Her most memorable moment came while playing with PGA pro Curtis Strange when her ball got closer to the pin on a par three. Joan enjoyed cross country travel visiting National Parks and camping in New England. Joan was a member of St. John’s R.C. Church, past member of the Lockport Town and Country Club, Chestnut Meadow Golf League, Niagara Orleans Golf League and Willowbrook Golf League. She was a long time member of the Eagles Auxiliary. Her children, Margot McDonough (Donovan Cook), Meghan McDonough (John Sakowski), and David McDonough (Lisa McDonough), and her two sisters, Margo Klass and Rosemary Pautler, survive her along with her 10 grandchildren, McDonough and Meghan Cook, Allison and Andrew Sakowski, and Elizabeth, Samantha, Liam, Finn, Oliver, and Aalish McDonough. Joan Elizabeth was the eldest child of Dorothy Brumley Pautler and Dr. Arthur Pautler, DDS. Joan was a lifelong resident of Lockport and was instrumental developing the well-remembered arts program at Artpark in Lewiston, including its stores, gallery, catering program, and especially its esteemed Artist Residency Program. Joan attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and graduated from Emerson College in Boston, established an early career in merchandising, and later transitioned to teaching home economics in Williamsville, before finding the perfect career match in her work with Artpark. In recent years she enjoyed living part-time with her grandchildren in California and volunteering at various clothing and food banks in Lockport. Her body was donated to the University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program. Her family will host a celebration of her life this summer. After marrying the late Malcolm “Andy” Anderson on July 20th, 1951, they made their home in the Town of Somerset. Joan was a life-time member of Faith United Methodist Church of Barker, including the Women’s Society, choir, and the Avon Study Club. Her beautiful soprano voice graced countless church services, cantatas, weddings, memorial services, and community events. Joan enjoyed singing, watching classic movies, knitting, playing piano, the family cats, and spending time with her children and grandchildren, both locally and those in Florida and Michigan. It was because of her involvement with the legion, that she met her husband, Alfred "Ollie" Milleville. He died on Thanksgiving Day in 1996. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Bari) Masocco. Joanne was a graduate of LaSalle Senior High School, and later earned her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Niagara County Community College. On August 11, 1978, she married Patrick Cerminara, Jr., NCSD Ret., at Prince of Peace Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Joanne’s career as a Registered Nurse spanned 40 years. She began working at Deaconess Hospital and later at Buffalo General Hospital, before starting at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, NY, where she dedicated 35 years as an Operating Room Nurse until her retirement in 2019. She trained and precepted many future Operating Room Nurses during her time at Mt. St. Mary’s, cementing her legacy and leaving a lasting impact on future care partners. Joanne was proud of her volunteer work at many organizations, namely at St. Aloysius Church in Springville, NY, where she helped to prepare meals for grieving families. In her spare time, she enjoyed practicing yoga, weight training, hiking, biking, bird and nature watching, playing pickleball, and practicing archery. She was also a tremendous cook. Joanne will be remembered most for her loving, honest and generous nature – she was accepting of all people and was always non-judgmental. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Above all, Joanne’s life centered around her grandchildren, and she loved attending their sporting events, dance recitals and school functions. She was born March 26, 1944, to the late Calvin and Emma (Peggy) Hall. Joanne graduated from Newfane High School in 1962. In 1963, she married Thomas Roy Tuttle until his death in 2002. Thomas and Joanne had three children – Terry (Kathy) Tuttle, Daniel (Christa) Tuttle, and Susan (David) Ortiz. Joanne loved all her children and her seven grandchildren - Elizabeth, Rebekah (and Eliott), Lydia, Darren, Ryan, Kylie, and Lauren. Joanne is also survived by two sisters, Janice (Hall) Buhr and Karen (Hall) Eichhorn. Her sister, Kathleen (Hall) Harrison predeceased her. In 2004, Joanne married Fred W. Kenney. Joanne accepted the Lord at a revival meeting at Wright’s Corners Presbyterian Church along with her brother-in-law, Robert Tuttle. Joanne, eventually with her husband, Thomas, became members of Ridgewood Bible Church. In the 1970’s, she was one of the main leaders of Pioneer Girls that met at the church each week. Joanne also enjoyed greeting people at the door on Sundays and loved helping with the Cubbies in AWANA each week. Joanne’s highlights were family get-togethers with her three sisters and their families as well as her cousins from over the years. She was an avid reader for many years. After moving to Naples, Florida, he continued working in construction as a carpenter and a mason, later he worked at Home Depot. After moving to Kodak, Tennessee, in 1999, he transferred to a east Knoxville area Home Depot, retiring in 2001 to build their new home. Being a talker and people person he returned to work at the Kodak Food City for six years where he was loved by all the children and parents that crossed paths with him. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. 8189 | John A. "Pete" Woock, age 63 of Youngstown, died Saturday January 13, 2018 in the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a lengthy illness. Pete was born September 10, 1954 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Stanley and Geraldine (Meahl) Woock and was a 1972 graduate of LaSalle Senior High School. He was an Electrician and was employed by Roman Electric, Inc. in Youngstown for 35 years. Previous to that he had worked for Cooper Industries from 1972 to 1983. On June 10, 1978, Pete married Elaine (Lang) Woock and they moved to Youngstown. Elaine predeceased him in 2000. Pete will always be remembered as a wonderful family man. His family was his life. He also enjoyed baseball and bowling. He especially enjoyed his career as an electrician with Roman Electric. Born in Wilson, NY, on December 16, 1932, he was the son of the late Herbert A. and Mabel (Zastrow) Miller. John married Clarinda Miller of Sanborn, NY, on September 15, 1962. She predeceased him on August 1, 1992. John served in the US Army and was stationed in Japan from 1953 to 1955. He then worked at Continental Can Co., in North Tonawanda, and was a school bus driver for Niagara Wheatfield CSD. John was a lifelong farmer in Wilson and Cambria. In addition, he owned and operated Miller Farm Produce Containers. John and his family went to North Tonawanda Farmers Market with vegetables and his wife's homemade pies for many years. He was active in Niagara County Farm Bureau, 4-H, and Pekin Grange. He was also an exempt member of South Wilson Volunteer Fire Company. In his younger years, John was an avid bowler who belonged to two leagues. He loved watching sports, everything from high school basketball, any type of baseball, and especially Sabres hockey. John enjoyed reading newspapers and biographies, and doing puzzles. Following his retirement, he volunteered delivering Niagara County Home Delivered Meals. John is survived by his sister, Marjorie (David) White of Wilson, NY; four children, Gary Miller, Beth (late Eliot) Ulrich, Colleen (Chris) Liberto and Valerie (Greg) Nix; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. 8195 | John A. Pokrzyk January 28, 1927 ~ February 4, 2023 96 Years Old JOHN A. POKRZYK Of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023, in Northgate Health Care Facility. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on January 28, 1927, a son of the late Anthony and Stella [Odrzykwolski] Pokrzyk. Mr. Pokrzyk graduated from Niagara Falls High School and the University of Buffalo. He served as a Private First Class with the US Army during World War II having fought in the Philippines and then as part of the occupation force in Japan. Mr. Pokrzyk was a chemist who started his career with Alox Chemical and then with Union Carbide for many years before retiring in 1986. After retiring, he was a substitute teacher at various area schools. He worked at Value Home Center in Niagara Falls. He also worked for the New York State Parks for several years on Goat Island where he was able to humorously chat with Nik Wallenda as he prepared for his tightrope walk over the falls. He was an active member of the Sanborn Fire Company, serving as President and other offices in the company including several of the truck committees. He was a volunteer with Tri Community Ambulance Service. Mr. Pokrzyk was a member of the Sanborn American Legion Post 969 and the Sanborn Area Historical Association. He played halfback for the Niagara Falls Ravens Football team and he was an assistant coach for the Pendleton Cubs Football Team. He had a great sense of humor. He was admired and loved by all who knew him. He was the husband of the late Ruth A. [Kenney] Pokrzyk, who passed away on April 14, 2022, they were married on May 20, 1950 and their union lasted 72 years. Mr. Pokrzyk is survived by his children John “Jay” (Ann), Gary (Roberta) Pokrzyk and Susan (Gregg) Wendt, six grandchildren Christopher (Taysha) Wendt, Danielle (Nicholas) Bateman, Elizabeth Whitney, Jonathan Lew, Nicolas and Brandon Pokrzyk, four great grandchildren Leena, Callan, Nora and Olive, also many nieces and nephews. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Domenick and Filomena (Berarducci) Porreca. John attended local schools, graduating from Trott Vocational and attending the University of Buffalo, studying literature. On September 14, 1946, he married Estelle B. (Brusino) Porreca at St. Joseph’s Church. Mrs. Porreca predeceased him on September 20, 2013. John was employed for 31 years as a Laboratory Supervisor at E.I. Dupont in Niagara Falls until his retirement in 1977. Mr. and Mrs. Porreca operated the Midway Motel in Niagara Falls, NY during the 1960’s. In addition, they were two of the principal founding members of Heart, Love, and Soul Ministries and members of the former Sacred Heart Prayer Group, as well as the Charismatic movement and Mission Team at St. Teresa’s Church. John was very handy, and enjoyed gardening.
