Mrs. Sy was born in Casabordino, Italy on November 15, 1926, daughter of the late Michael and Theresa (Leona) D'Agostino. She moved to Lockport and following her marriage to Walter Sy on November 27, 1948, she had resided in Wolcottsville. She was employed at Fisher Price for several years prior to retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville and she enjoyed her family. Mrs. Sy was predeceased by her husband, Walter Sy in 2008; a sister, Phil LaRocco; a brother-in-law, Ray Gugliuzza; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Raymond and Elma Sy. She is survived by one son and one daughter, Linda A. Sy of Akron and Donald Sy of Lockport; her siblings, Samuel (Rachel) D'Agostino, Dolly Gugliuzza and JoJo Cuter, all of Lockport; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Frances (Sorino) Musolino. Rose attended local schools in Niagara Falls, NY. She married Albert P. Ventry on February 26, 1944, in San Antonio, TX; Mr. Ventry predeceased her on July 26, 2004. She was employed as a Key Punch Operator at the former Bell Aerospace in Niagara Falls, NY, until her retirement after 25 years of service. Following her retirement, she worked as a clerk at Mikasa in the Factory Outlet Mall in Niagara Falls, NY. She loved to spend her winters in Deerfield Beach, FL with her late husband, Albert. Rose will be remembered as an excellent cook and baker. Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rose is survived by her two children, Marlene F. Ventry and Albert J. Ventry, both of Niagara Falls, NY; her grandchildren, James A. (Dina) Priester and Denise M. Buffone, a onetime local big-band singer and retired medical receptionist, died Thursday in Inter-Community Memorial Hospital, Newfane, after a long illness. She was 73. Mrs. Buffone was born June Julian in Niagara Falls and attended local schools. As a young woman, she sang with local bands. Her family said she always enjoyed singing and also liked classic musicals and other old movies. Mrs. Buffone worked for more than 25 years at a Pine Avenue office shared by three physicians. The practice later became Summit Pediatrics. She enjoyed bowling, watching baseball, and playing cards. Mrs. Buffone was a longtime member of St. Charles Catholic Church, after having grown up as a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Frank J.; four sons, Michael of Sterling, Va.; Douglas of North Tonawanda and Patrick and Philip, both of Niagara Falls; two daughters, Nancy Pitarresi and Karen, both of Niagara Falls; a brother, Paul Julian of Sanborn; and eight grandchildren. She and her husband Elmer, owned and operated the Willow Motel on Niagara Falls Blvd, North Tonawanda for 22 years.She was a former member of the Town of Wheatfield Senior Citizens and the Town of Niagara Senior Citizens.She attended DeGraff Adult Day Care Center, North Tonawanda, where she enjoyed the staff, fellowship and activities.She was an avid bowler and reader and loved to travel and spend time with her family. The family would like to thank both the Hospice and Northgate staffs for their love, care and compassion for “Junebug” as she was affectionately nicknamed.It was a tremendous comfort during a difficult time. She attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational High School. June served in the United States Marine Corp. as an aircraft mechanic from 1943 until her honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1945. On July 24, 1947, she married Nicholas J. Venuto at St. Joseph’s Church. Mr. Venuto predeceased her on May 25, 1992. June worked at the former International Paper Mill and later, Globar Division of the Carborundum Company. She enjoyed attending her children’s sporting events and was a member of the Mother’s Club of Our Lady of the Rosary School and Bishop Duffy High School. June participated in local bowling leagues and enjoyed playing bingo with her sisters, shopping, going to the casino and John Duke Senior Center. She was an outstanding cook and fabulous baker. June loved spending time with her family and especially adored her grandchildren. Mrs. Venuto is survived by her three children, Richard N. (Susan) Venuto, Daniel T. (Mary) Venuto and Linda M. Born on May 27, 1935, to the late William H. and Edna F. Kunz of Independence, MO, Jim was a resident of Independence, MO, for over 60 years. He also resided in Kansas City and Belton, MO, until moving to Dallas in August 2003. Jim attended Bristol Elementary School in Independence and graduated from East High School in Kansas City in 1953. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and proudly served in the Military Police at Fort Gordon (Georgia) until his discharge in 1955. He attended Carson Newman College (Tennessee) and later transferred and graduated in 1961 from Central Missouri State University (Warrensburg), where he was awarded a B.A. in Biology, with minors in Psychology and Physical Education. He attended the University of MissouriKansas City and was awarded an M.A. in Higher Education with a minor in Student Personnel and Guidance in 1975. He later took additional graduate courses at the University of MissouriKansas City, in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Career Advancement. His professional career was dedicated to education, having served as an Admissions Counselor at Jamestown College (North Dakota), Associate Director of Admissions at Tarkio College (Missouri), Research Director for Schaffer Enterprises, Executive Director for the National Research Center for College and University Admissions, and most recently as the President of American Centre for Career Education Support Services. The latter organization specialized in the research, design, and implementation of educational, occupational, financial, and success strategies. A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life is being planned by the family, to be held in Kansas City, MO. His remains have been donated to help advance medical sciences. Karen married Robert Bates March 3, 1962 at Ridgewood Immanuel Lutheran Church. They have been married for 56 years. She was an active member of the Ridgewood Immanuel Lutheran Church where she also was a member of it’s Ladies Aide group. Karen retired from General Motors in Lockport as their personnel coordinator in 1998. She also worked on the family farm. She loved baking, gardening and spending time with her family. Karen and Robert were snowbirds, spending their winters in Florida. They were long time season ticket holders for the Dayton 500, meeting racing greats like Richard Petty. Kenneth was employed by Nabisco Shredded Wheat in Niagara Falls, NY for 41 years, retiring as the Supervisor of the Machine Shop in 1985. He was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of The Messiah in Lewiston and a member of the Shredded Wheat Breakfast Club and Bowling League. An avid and talented woodworker, Kenneth enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working in "Grampie's Workshop" In addition to his wife of 70 years, Dorothy, he is survived by a son, Gary (Debbi) Halliday; two daughters, Sharon (William) Ruth and Debbie (Paul) Skalla; six grandchildren, Allyson R. and Kristen Halliday, Lauren (Suren) Gobin, Donny Halliday, Deidre and Jeremy Skalla; and four great grandchildren. Beehler, a former medical receptionist and longtime American Red Cross volunteer, died Friday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a two-week illness. She was 86. Born Katherine Nash in Niagara Falls, she graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1937. She moved to Lewiston in 1942, a year after her marriage to Paul C. Beehler Jr., who died June 30, 1971. After her husband's death, Mrs. Beehler joined the office of Dr. Claude Fichte in Niagara Falls, where she worked as a receptionist until retiring in 1986. She was a Red Cross volunteer at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for more than 30 years. She also enjoyed gardening, baking and activities with the Lewiston Senior Citizens. Kate was an avid crafter and loved to share her talents with her children, grandchildren, school students and for church fund raisers.
