Pettit, 88, formerly of this village
and widow of Bert Pettit,
died Sunday (Dec. 31, 1967) at
the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Lloyd (Lois) Miller of 69 Lake
Ave., Lancaster, after a twoweek
illness.
She was born Jan. 9, 1879 in
Newfane, the daughter of William
H. and Edna Mason Beers,
and had lived here until going
to live with her daughter three
years ago.
Mr. Pettit died in 1950.
She had been a member of
Newfane Methodist Church for
a longer time than any other
person. Mrs. Pettit also was a
member of the Loyal Seniors
group and Woman's Society of
Christian Service of the church,
of the WCTU and a former
member of the Newfane Tuesday
Club.
Surviving, besides Mrs. Miller,
are another daughter and
three sons, Miss Edna M. Pettit
of Lancaster, Charles Pettit
of Port Charlotte, Fla., Lawrence
Pettit of Newfane and
Malcolm Pettit of Olcott; two
brothers, William H. Beers of
Southern Pines, N.C., and
Royce L. Beers of Birmingham,
Mich.; also 10 grandchildren,
14 great - grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Carrie Cummings of the
Pork Ridge road. Akron, and Harvey
Brucker. son of Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Brucker of Scotland road,
were united in marriage Saturday
afternoon. Jan. 13, at the parsonage
of the Hunts' Corners Baptist
church by the Rev. Stanley B.
Thomson.
They were attended by Miss
Avice Brucker, sister of the bridegroom,
and George Davis of Akron.
The bride was gowned in coral
silk and wore a corsage of roses
and baby breath Miss Brucker
wore blue silk and a corsage like
that of the bride.
Following the ceremony the wedding
party enjoyed a dinner at the
Berry Patch in Batavia.
Mr. and Mrs. Brucker are residing
with the bridegroom's parents for
the present.

Wilson, died at Inter - Community
Memorial Hospital, Newfane,
Monday, (Jan. 20, 1964).
He had been an equipment operator
for the Town of Wilson for
the past 22 years.
Mr. Bohn was born in Wilson,
May 26, 1910, the son of August
and Bertha Jones Bohn. He married
Miss Elsie Brauer Feb. 28,
1934.
Besides his wife, he is survived
by four daughters, Mrs.
Richard (Eleanor) Sherman of
Newfane, Mrs. Ronald (Evelyn)
Clare of Wilson, Mary
Lou and Lynda Bohn at home;
one son, Richard Bohn of Wilson,

John W. Benthin, 83, of
6090 Shawnee Road, died Saturday
(Jan. 18, 1964) at Doctors
Hospital, Town of Tonawanda.
He was born in the Town of
Wheatfield Aug. 2, 1900, the son
of Carl and Augusta Heubner
Benthin. He lived in the area
all of his life.
Mr. Benthin was employed for
27 years as a carpenter at the
former Buffalo Bolt Co., Tonawanda.
He, retired about five
years ago. He was an exempt
member of the Shawnee Volunter
Fire Co. and a member of
St. Paul's United Church of
Christ.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs.
Gertrude Williams Benthin; two
sons, Lloyd N. and Roger L. of
Sanborn, one daughter, Mrs.
Lois A. Stull of Okinawa; two
brothers, Charles and Frank
Benthin; three sisters, Mrs
Mary Schuler, Mrs. Ella Bech

William E. Behrens, 69, of 389
North Transit St., Lockport, a
retired streets department employe,
died this morning (Jan
20, 1967) at Briody Nursing
Home after a long illness.
Born in Lockport on Sept. 3,
1897, he was the son of Charles
and Johanna Linderman Behrens.
Mr. Behrens worked for many
years for the Lockport C i ty
Street Department until ill
health forced his retirement
more than two years ago.
Surviving are two sisters,
Miss Sophia Behrens of Newfane,
Mrs. Emma Holtz of
Lockport; one brother, Carl
Behrens of Olcott and several
nieces and nephews.

Wednesday evening last was the occasion
of a very pleasant social gathering
held at the residence of Mr. WILLIAM
BLACKLOCK of Ransomville. Upwards of
50 persons accepted tbe lnvitation to be
present and witness the marriage ceremony
of tbeir daughter REBECCA, to
EDGAR CORNELL of Porter. The ceremony
was performed by Rev. J. H. PERKINS,
of Mapleton. in a very impressive
and satisfactory manner. The supper was
of the beat and reflected great credit upon
Mrs. BLACKLOCK and her dtughters.
Upon the center of tbe table stood a
beautiful floral ornament, the gift of Mrs.
BAKER of Ransomville.
The bridal presents were many,in which
beauty and usefulness were combined.

wedding trip followed by the kindest

APPLETON, Jan. 21 - Relatives
from this vicinity have returned
from Lodl, where they attended the
funeral of Fred Betzler, born in Appleton
69 years ago. He passed away
In his home last week, of blood
poisoning. Using a buzz saw on his
farm, Mr. Betzler's hand was cut
two weeks ago. Infection developed
and his condition soon became
grave.
A former Appleton farmer, he had
since resided many years in Lodi.
He is survived by h i s widow, Jenny
Betzler, and three children, Howard,
Donald and Grace Betzler, all of
Lodi; also four brothers, Frank, Bert,
Edward and Charles Betzler; and
three sisters, Mrs. John Lenz and
Anna Betzler and Mrs. Louise
Hewett. Mrs. Hewett resides in the
West. The remainder live to Appleton
and vicinity.
Attending the funeral were Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Betzler, Mrs. Julia
Betzler, Edward, Bert and Prank
Betzler of Appleton.

in St. Peter's Evangelical church,

when the Rev. Herbert L. Siegner,
pastor, united in marriage Miss
Freda C. Boetcher, daughter of Mrs.
Augusta Boetcher of 49 Spalding
street, and Edward Zoss Israel, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Israel of
Newfane.
The bride wore a drer, of Winter
white botany wool trimmed with
white angora yarn and orchid ac-
cessorles. She wore a shoulder cor-
sage of orchids.
Miss Olive Boetcher, sister of the
bride who attended her, also wore
Winter white botany wool trimmed
With white angora. Her accessories
were green and she wore a shoulder
corsage of gloria roses. Arthur Israel,
brother of the groom, was best man
and ushers were Ronald Gilford of
Ridgewood and Edward Lewis of
Lockport.
Mrs. Boetcher wore a dress of
bla"k crepe trimmed with white lace
and Mrs. Israel wore green crepe
with brown accessories. Mrs. Charles
Zoss. grandmother of the groom,
wore black crepe. All three wore
gardenia corsages.
Mrs. Gladys Stahler played the
wedding music and Maurice Sullivan
sang "Because."
Gift flowers decorated the bride's
home, where a reception was held
to 60 guests following the ceremony.

where he operated a stall
until retiring six years ago.
Born in Germany, Nov. 16,
1877, Mr. Bluhm was one of
15 children. He came to this
country at the age of 6 and
was a resident of this area for
almost 80 years.
Surviving are his widow,
Ida Schrader Bluhm; a daughter,
Mrs. George Sehendel, at
home; two sisters, Mrs. Otis
Murray, Olcott, and Mrs.
Ernest Miller, Lockport; two
brothers, John Bluhm, Niagara
Falls, and August

OLCOTT, Jan. 22-Funeral services
were conducted Monday afternoon
at his late home on the Transit
road for John F. Leinz. who died
suddenly late but Thursday night
from a paralytic stroke The Rev.
William H Burley at the Olcott
Union Methodist Episcopal church
officiated, assisted by the Rev. Arthur
a Northrup of the Appleton
Wesleyan Methodist church. Burial
was in Lakeview cemetery, and the
bearers were C. Parker Corwin. Al
bert Thief, Archie Briggs, Edward
J- Lapham. Ira L. Dickinson and
Charles J. Lawton The funeral was
one of the largest attended here in
many years.
Mr. Leinz was born in the town
of Newfane May 4. 1871. and had
resided in this immediate locality
all his life. He was president of the
Lake Ontario Fruit Growers Asso-
ciation and of the Lake View Ceme-
tery Association, was a member of
the Olcott Union Methodist Episco-
pal church and had been a trustee
of that society for the past thirty
years.
Had Friendship of All.
For the past four years he has
been associated with his brother,
Danniel Lienz of this village, in the
general wood working business. In
all, he was one of Olcott's most in-
fluential and highly respected citi-
zens, and his presence will be greatly
missed by the entire community
which shares with his relative, deep
regret at his untimely death. He
was a man who always had a kind
word, a smile and a helping hand
for every one.
He was appaarently in good health
the day preceding his death, cutting
timber in the woods on his farm,
and eating a hearty dinner that
evening. He retired early, and short-
ly before midnight, his wife aroused
by his unusually loud snoring, at-
tempted to awaken him but was
unable to do so. She called a
physician but death occured before
his arrival. Coroner Frank T. Car-
mer, M.D. of Newfane, was called
and issued a certificate of death due
to cerebro-apoplexy.
Surviving are his widow, Eliza-
beth Betzler Leinz, one brother,
Daniel of Olcott, and three sisters,
Mrs. Mary Mayer of Buffalo, Mrs.
Christine McCarthy and Miss Emma
Leinz of Olcott.

Allen Edgar Beccue, 31, of the
Bowmiller Road. Town of Lockport,
died Tuesday aftvnoon in Lockport
City Hospital, where he recently
underwent an operation.
Surviving are ris wife, Rhenia
Dec. 26, 1913, and attended the old
Hawley Street School. He was a
lifelong member of the St. Peter's:
Evangelical Church.
For 11 years Mr. Beccue had been
employed at the Harrison plant,
where he was forman of Department
47 and a member of the 0-9
Foremen's Club. When the South
Lockport Fire Department was organized
a few years ago, he was
the first captain.
Mr. Beccue was born in Lockport,
Campbell Beccue; a daughter,
Marcia Eileen Beccue; two sons,
Wayne Allen and Kent Edgar Beccue;
his mother, Mrs. Otto Beccue,
all of Lockport: two brothers, Karl
Beccue, Buffalo, and Clay Beccue,
aad a sister, Naomi Beccue, both of
Lockport.
Members of the South Lockport
Fire Company will meet tomorrow
evening at 8 o'clock at the fire hall
and proceed in1 a body to the
Clemens O. Gaul Funeral home, 263

Cora Brigham, who at 96 is the
oldest resident of the home.
Mrs. Brigham was born in the
Town of Royalton April 17, 1865.
Her parents were Benjamin and
Julia Ostrander Dunkleberger. Se
had two brothers,, Chauncey Dun-
kelberger, a Lockport attorney,
and Frank Dunkleberger.
After attending country school,
she went to Miss Coolidge's Select
School in Lockport.
In 1890 she was married to
James A. Bush of East Wilson and
lived on a farm in that area. After
Mr. Bush's death in 1914 she
moved to 16 Adam St., Lockport.
In 1919 she was married to Dr.
John H. Brigham, Lockport vet-
erinarian, and they lived at the
Adam St. address, Dr. Brigham
died in 1940.
Mrs. Brigham has a son, How-
ard Brigham of Lockport, seven
grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
One grandson, Warren
A. Pearson, made his home with
his grandparents until he married.
Since June 1960, Mrs. Brigham
has been a resident of the Pres-
byterian Home, where she takes
part in all of its activities.

Reed. She had lived in this

to Clayton Bixler. He died in

Mrs Harriett S. Bechtel. 63, wife
of Philip D. Bechtel. Niagara Falls,

a native of the Town of Lewiston
and had been in poor health for
several years.

A young man was Injured fatally

when his automobile was struck by
a passenger train on the Hyde Park
boulevard grade crossing near Buffalo
avenue and two other persons
were hurt in traffic accidents in
other parts of the city last night.
Berak Killed.
The dead:
Anthony Blaz Berak, 22 years old,
126 Twelfth street.
The injured:

Marshall Clark, 11 years old, 1317
Michigan avenue, in Memorial hos-
pital with a fractured left leg and
brush burns of the body.
Miss Janet Thomas, 24, 583 Third
street, in Memorial hospital with
head injuries and abrasions of the
right knee.
Car Torn Apart
The grade crossing accident in
which young Berak lost his life oc-
curred last evening at 6:50 o'clock.
He was driving his automobile, a
sedan, north over the crossing, after
turning in from Buffalo avenue.
The Lehigh passenger train was
traveling west, coming into the city,
on the second track north from Buf-
falo avenue. The right side and rear
of the automobile were torn apart
by the impact of the locomotive and
the car was tossed to the side of
the track near a telegraph pole.

Neck Broken
When the train crew and others
reached the automobile it was
turned around and the front of the
car was facing east. Berak was in
the back seat, the terrific Impact
having thrown him backward from
behind the wheel. His skull was
fractured and his neck was broken.
According to Dr. Harry r. Emes,
coroner. Rushed to Memorial hos-
pital in the Falls Garage ambu-
lance, Berak died a few minutes af-
ter being carried into the hospital.
The body was sent to the Tubinis
Funeral chapel, in East Falls street.
Members of Berak's family said
that he had left his home only a
few minutes before the accident oc-
curred. He was on his way to Lock-
port to call upon a girl friend and
drove east in Buffalo avenue and
swung north over the crossing, when
the train, known as the Lehigh
?? struck his car. The crossing is
protected by flashlight signals and
??.
Police Investigate
A squad of police officers led by
Traffic Lieut. John J. Dietz and
including Patrolmen Bernard Ader-
mann, Thomas Wasley, Fred G.
Williams tried to find eye witnesses
to the crash but reported that they
were unable to locate any. Investi-
gation of the fatality is being con-
ductedd today by police and Coroner
??.
Berak was a son of Mr. and Mrs.
Nicholaus Berak, of the Twelfth
street address. He was born in Chi-
cago and came to this city with his
parents in 1924. He was graduated
from the Niagara Falls high school
in 1935 and since then had been em-
ployed by the shipping department
at the U.S. Battery corporation, in
??? avenue. He was a member
of Holy Trinity Chapter 512, of
the Croation Fraternal Union lodge.
Surviving the young man, besides
his parents, are three brothers,
George, Samuel and John, all of
this city.
Funeral services will be held in
the home, 126 Twelfth street, Sat-
urday morning at 9:30 o'clock, and
the Holy Trinity church, East Falls
and Fourteenth streets, at 10 o'clock.
Burial will be in Rivedale ceme-
tery.
The Hyde Park crossing has taken
the lives of many persons and several
campaigns have been started to
have it illuminated by construction
??? or overhead bridge. The

groom.
Mrs. Steblein. was dressed in a
fuchsia two piece wool suit, with
navy blue accessories. She wore
a corsage of yellow roses.
DOUBLE RECEPTION
A double celebration followed the
two double-ring ceremonies, with
a reception for 15 at the home of
Mrs. Steblein, 84 Erie St., Lockport.
Eight were seated at the
bridal table centered with an arrangement
of Spring flowers and
flanked on either side by two
three-tiered wedding cakes.
Each groom presented his bride
with a yellow gold wrist watch.
Following the reception. Mr. and
Mrs. Bartz left for Florida, where
they will spend an extended honeymoon.
Upon their return, they
will reside on the Dyslnger Road.
Mr. and Mrs. Fiegl went to their
home on the Lewiston Road in
Middleport.

at her son's wedding. The son, Robert E. Bartz of RD 5 Dysirtger
Road, and Miss Dorothy E. Jones. Miller Road, Lockport, were
married at the Baptist Parsonage, by the Rev. Harleigh Rosenberger
at 9 o'clock. One hour later. Mrs. Bartz married Frederick

White chrysanthemums and s n a p d r a g o ns
adorned the altar and white satin bows marked the
pews of St. Bridget's Church, Newfane, at 11 Saturday
morning when Miss Karen Ann Bowers became
the bride of John W. Zapp. The Rev. Joseph F.
Coughlin officiated.
The bride is the daughter
of Mrs. Duane Uschold of
6971 Akron Road, Lockport
and Layton Bowers of Miami,
Fla. The groom's parents are
Mr. and Mrs. John Zapp of
372 Walnut St.
Given in marriage by her
step - father, Duane Uschold,
the bride chose a full - length
gown of rosepoint lace with
princess tailored sleeves. A
sabrina neckline enhanced the
fitted bodice and her bouffant
skirt was fashioned of lace
tiers. A crown of orange blossoms
and pearls caught her
fingertip veil of silk Illusion
and she completed her ensemble
with a single strand of
pearls, a gift of the groom.
SINGLE ORCHID
She carried a white prayer
book adorned with a single
white orchid and lilies of the
valley.
Attending her sister as the
maid of honor was Miss Carol
Bowers who chose a gown
of emerald green satin fashioned
with portrait neckline,
three - quarter length sleeves
and a circular skirt with a
cummerbund waist. A matching
crown of maline and crystals
held her brief veil and
she carried a colonial bouquet
of white carnations accented
with green streamers.
Attired identically but in
Valentine red were the bridesmaids,
Mrs. Marine Bowers,
lister - in - law of the bride;
Miss Nancy Zimmerman, cousfn
of the bride; Mrs. Linda
Earner; Miss Joyce Buffin;
and Miss Mary Ann DiSalvatore,
all of Lockport.
FLOWER GIRL
Donning a floor - length
gown of emerald green taffeta
was the flower girl, Miss
Patricia Lynn Degan, cousin
of the bride. A small cabbage
rose held her circular veil
and she carried a basket
filled with white shasta pom-
pons.
Serving as ring bearer, was
Michael Degan, cousin of the
bride.
Orville Brown of Au Sable
Forks, Fla., attended the
groom as best man with Terrance
Zapp, nephew of the
groom; Richard Brauer,
brother - in - law of the
groom; Robert Uschold; Layton
Bowers, brother of the
bride, all of Lockport; and
Douglas Artmann of Middleport,
sharing ushering duties.
Donald Chaplin of Newfane
presided at the organ.
MOTHERS'GOWNS
Mrs. Uschold attended her
daughter's wedding in a
sheath of aqua satin. She added
matching hat and accessories
and completed her ensemble
with a pink cymbidiurn
orchid.
Mrs. Zapp, mother of the
groom, chose a grey silk print
sheath dress with matching
Jacket and added white accessories.
She added contrast
with yellow eymbidium orchids.
The grandmother of the
bride, Mrs. Martin Degan attended
in a Dior blue sheath
dress with white accessories
complemented by pink carnations.
Immediately following t h e
ceremony, the breakfast was
held at Wright's Corners Firt
Hall where the reception followed
from 5 to 9 p.m. Centering
the bride's table was a
five • tiered wedding cake of
white and silver flanked by
crystal candelabra and the
attendants' bouquets.
WEDDING TRIP
For her wedding journev to
Colonial Heights, Va., the
bride chose a winter white
wool sheath with gold accessories
and added a single
white orchid. Upon their return,
the couple will make
their home at 324 Washburn
St.
Guests attended from Buffalo,
Williamsville, and Au
Sable Forks, Fla.
The bride is a graduate of
Lockport Senior High School
and Doyle Beauty School of
Buffalo and is presently employed
by Fran's Beauty Shop
in Lockport. The groom, a
graduate of De Sales Catholic
High School. Is an employe of
the Castle Dairy Co. of Lockport.
He served for two years
with the U S. Army.

Storage. Mrs. Nellie A. Brauer. 80,
died Monday (Jan. 27, 1959) in
Deaconess Hospital, Buffalo,
where she had been a patient since
early that morning. She had been
in ill health for the past five years.
Mrs. Brauer also worked for her
brother, the late J. L. Branch,
Lockport produce dealer, before
moving to Buffalo more than 60
years ago.
Born on the Hess Rd., Town of,
Newfane, Oct. 19, 1877, she was!

a Methodist seminary in the state

Daniel V. Oldham, passed away
yesterday afternoon at her home, 250
Locust street. She is survived by two
sisters, Mrs. H. Poole and Mrs. D. P.
Kline, a brother, William Blackley,
a daughter, Mrs. William Ewart,
three sons, James R. Oldham, Daniel
Engbert Oldham and Alfred R. Old-
ham of Lockport. Funeral ser-
vices will be held Sunday afternoon
at 2.30 at the late home.

PENDLETON, Jan 29. - Mrs
Mary Bisher, widow of Fred Bisher,
died at her home in Pendleton Mon-
day, Jan. 27, in her 82nd year. Mrs.
Bisher had been ill the past two
years and had been tenderly cared
for by her son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. George Bisher.
Surviving are three daughters,
Mrs. Clarence Wiebel and Mrs. Roy
Creasy of Tonawanda, and Mrs,
William Sanford of Lockport; three
sons, Bert of Cambria Center-, Walter
and George of Pendleton; alto
one sister who resides in Missouri.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow
afternoon at 2:15 o-clock, at
the home, and 2:30 at the United
Brethren church. Rev. A. J. Vrooman,
the pastor, will officiate, and
burial will be in Bear Ridge ceme-
tery.

Funeral services were held in Albion
Friday for Andrew Loeschke.
33, of Albion, who died Tuesday in
Strong Memorial hospital, Rochester,
following an operation for a
brain abscess. Burial was in Mt,
Albion cemetery.
Mr. Loeschke lived in Albion but
was known in this locality. He leaves
his wife, formerly Miss Fern Walsh
of Mlddleport; his mother, Mrs.
Reaka Louehke; two sisters, Mrs.
Walter Krause, Royalton Center:
Mrs. Rose Kane, Chestnut Ridge and
two brothers. Walter and William
Loeschke, both of Chestnut Ridge.
