9602 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 12/21/1955 More than 100 friends and relatives attended the Open House reception, Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clare Ramming of West Avenue, Gasport, in honor of Mr. Ramming's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Coulson of Main Street, Gasport, when the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Refreshments were served from e white linen-covered table, centered by a four-tiered white wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom standing in front of a gold cup. Yellow pompons flanked either side of the c a k e . Christmas decorations throughout the house completed the decorations. Miss Delores Clare served the cake. Miss Bonnie Beakman served at the punch bowl and Mrs. Ramming at the urn. A turkey dinner later was served to members of the Immediate family. Out-of-town guests were from Ransomvllle, Lockport, Middleport and Medina. Mr. and Mrs. Coulson were married Dec. 21, 1905 In Middleport. Mrs. Coulson Is the former Mary Bartz. Mr. Coulson, now retired, was a fanner for many years on the Root Road. He also worked at the Friend Manufacturing Co. and before retiring last year, worked on the caaal lift bridge. (Bud) Lewis, 56, of 6176 Howell Ave., Newfane, died Saturday (Dec. 19, 1964) at Buffalo General Hospital following a twoweek - long illness. Mr. Lewis, who was born in South Dayton, N.Y., was a member of the Island Yacht Club, Wilson; Oak Orchard Yacht Club, Lockport Power Squadron and the New York State Boatmen's Association. He had previously been employed for 10 years at Merritt Engineering. He is survived by his wife, Olive Boetcher Lewis; a sister, Mrs. Charles Thomas, G r a nd Island, and several nieces and nephews. (Dec. 20, 1968) at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Buffalo, after a long illness. Mr. Bower was born July 7, 1913, in Lockport, the son of Fred and Mina Resnick Bower. He served with the U. S. Army in World War II in the European Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge. He was chief equipment operator for the City of Lockport Street Department for 22 years, and had been on a leave of absence since August Mr. Bower was active in Lockort Little League, serving as vice president of die league at one time and also as a team manager. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and Sacred Heart League of St. Mary's Church, Lockport; the Lockport Council, Knights of Colum bus; B. Leo Dolan Post 410, American Legion and the Screwball Club. Survivors include his widow, Rosemary 0. (nee Blackley); four sons, Stephen, James, Neal and Daniel Bower at home; one brother and one sister, William Bower of Lockport and Mrs. Catherine Peterson of Winnipeg, Man., and several nieces and nephews. Llvingstone united in marriage their daughter, Dorothy Amelia and Robert H. Bell. Tha house was profusely decorated with white and purple lilacs. The ceremony waa performed before a bank of ferns and underneath a beau, tiful arch of snowballs white and purple French lilacs, with a large wedding bell of white and purple Lohengrin's wedding march was played on the graphanola. The bride was gowned in white crepe de chine with pearly trimmings and carried a shower bouquet of roses snd sweet peas. Miss Doris Bars, sister of the bride was maid of honor and w a s gowned in yellow organdie carrying a large yellow rose, bearing the wedding ring. The bridesmaid waa Miss Lucy Bell, sister of the groom. Her gown was of whim organdie with lavender trimmings. She carried a bouquet of white and purple lilacs. Walter Bell, brother of the groom acted as best man. The groom's gift to his bride was a string of pearls, and to his best man. cuff links To the maid of honor, the bride presented a ring, and to her bridesmaid, a bracelet. Covers were laid for sixty guests at the wedding dinner which followed, eleven of whom were seated at the bride's table, which was centered with a bouquet of roses and sweet peas. The bride received many useful gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Bell left for a motor trip to Silver Lake, where they will spend a fortnight. The bride'e traveling gown was of tan. with hat to match. After July 1 they will be at home on South Transit road. Bistoff was born In the town of Royalton on February 12, 1883 but spent the greater part his life here. Up to about two years ago he lived in Lockport, at that tlme moving to his late home on Chestnut ridge. Up to the 'time of his Illness he was employed at the Upson Company plant on Stevens street. Besides his wife he leaves four children. Gertrude, Ruth. Helen and Eleanor at home; four sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Henry Bischer, Mrs. Elisabeth Davison, Mrs. John Murtaugh and Anna, John, Edward J. Elbert Douglas 78. vice president of the Western Block Company, died at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at his home. 471 High St. He was an honorary trustee of the Baptist Church and served as president of the YMCA board at the time the present building was financed and constructed. Born in Lockport Oct. 6, 1865 Mr. Whitney was the son of Julius & and Jane Whitney. His father was a carpenter contractor. Rose From Ranks The son was educated in the Lockport public schools. After his graduation from the old Union School, he entered the employ of the former Boston and Lockport Block Factory at the age of 18 years. There he rose from the ranks to become general manager. After the block factory burned about 3a years ago. Mr. Whitney became associated with the Western Block Company, serving first as sales manager, then as secretary ana in recent years as rice president. For more than 40 years a director of the YMCA, Mr. Whitney re-, signed in 1940 when he was elected a honorary member of the board in recognition of continued and very active service. He became a member of the board June 10. 1901 and was president for seven years from 1922 to 1929. Trustee For Life In 1938 the Baptist Church recognized Mr. Whitney's 40 years of service on the official board by making him an honorary trustee for life. At that time he was chair- man of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Whitney was a charter mem- ber of the Rotary Club. While he never aspired to public office, he served on the Board of Park Com- missioners under former Mayor Ernest B. Crosby and Orrin G. Blount. Mr. Whitney was married in ?? to Aletta Esther Brace, who died eight years ago. Surviving are a son, Douglas B. Whitney, work manager of the Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors Cor- poration, and a daughter, Mrs. Clifford W. Beers, Rochester. Seymour Ransom, 77, last of a pioneer Niagara county family and former village postmaster, died at 1 o'clock this morning in the family home, West Main street, after a long illness. Mr. Ransom was born in Niagara county, son of the late William H. H. and Eliza Ransom, and lived in Ransomville most of his life. He served seven years as supervisor, representing the town of Porter, He was a member of uie Ransomville Baptist church and a past master of Ransomville Masonic lodge. He served as postmaster for eight years. During the World war Mr. Ransom was chairman of the Niagara County Selective Service Rules board, and a member of the Niagara Pioneers' association. He is survived by his wife, Grace White- Ransom; one son, Philip of Buffalo; one daughter, Mrs. Everett Ward, of Sterlingville, N. Y., and a sister, Mrs. Lottie Barry, of Wilson. Her fingertip veil was crowned with a sweetheart brim of pleated faille. A string of pearls and matching earrings, gift of the groom, complemented her ensemble. Her bouquet of white roses and carnations, tied with a satin ribbon, was used as a centerpiece at a reception for 200 guests held at the home of her parents during the afternoon. The bridesmaids wore blue and vermiUion chiffon gowns styled with fold necklines and full skirts, their chiffon gauntlets, be- ing complemented by rhinestone bracelets, gifts of the bride. They wore flower headdresses and bou- quets of yellow carnations and blue pompons. Mrs. Blonkowskl, mother of the bride, favored a navy blue chiffon dinner dress with navy accessories and a red rose corsage. The groom's mother, Mrs. Dubai, chose a green silk ensemble and matching green accessories, with a redrose corsage. WEDDING DINNER A dinner for members of the immediate families was served at the Park Hotel.
