9751 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 2/26/1963 Joseph Bucolo, 76, of 313 Clinton St. died this morning, (Feb. 26, 1963) in Buffalo following an ill- ness of one month. He had been employed at the Harrison Radi- ator Division, General Motor s Corp. until his retirement in 1945. Previously, he had been a farmer n the Slayton Settlement Rpad, Town of Lockport. He was born in Siciy on March 6, 1886 and came to Lockport from Italy in 1905. His wife, Mary Corriere Bucoo ddied in 1936. Mr. Bucoo was a member of the Italian - American Society. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Lawrence McKay, Mrs. Charles Loiacono,, Miss Theresa Bucolo, Mra Marvin Cummings and Mrs. Harold Grage; three sons, Santo, Michael and Jerome Bucolo, all of Lockport; 10 grand- children and 3 great - grandchil- dren. Beginning tomorrow friends may all at the residence, 313 Clinton Street where the family will be present. A Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Church. Mrs. Clark Aldrich delightfully entertained at her Home on Thursday afternoon at a show- er for Miss Arnold. On Saturday after- noon, Miss Mabel Feathertsone also gave. a kitchen shower for the bride- elect, at the former's home In Lake' Road Miss Arnold was the guest of honor at a third shower, given by, the Mystic Circle, of which she is a member. The last occurred on Monday, at Union M. E. chapel. Miss Arnold was the recepient of many useful and beautiful gifts. ALSO Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 3/6/1922 A very pretty home wedding took place on Wednesday, March 1, at High Noon when Miss S. Lucille Arnold, elder daughter of Supervisor and Mrs. E. E. Arnold of Lake Road, Somerset, became the wife of "Vernon J. Bateman, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Bateman. The Rev. A. E. ^Mathews officiating in the presence of about thirty guests. The bridal pair were unattended. The wedding march and other appropriate musical numbers Were rendered by Miss Pauline Arnold, sister of the bride, at the piano and Miss Lulu Arnold, violin, the bride's cousin. The bride was becomingly gowned in blue silk and carried paper-white narcissi and pink roses. Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served, covers being laid for twelve at the bride's table. The decorations were in yellow and white daffodils, yellow and white place cards, etc. Mr. and Mrs. Bateman left for a wedding trip to New York City and other eastern points. Upon their return they will be at home in the Bateman road, Somerset. 9764 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 2/3/1948 A veteran of the spanish Ameri- can War, Joseph F. Ball, 72, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at his home, 17 Cottage St., of a heart attack. Born in the Town of Pendleton March 29, 1875, Mr. Ball was the son of Mr and Mrs. Joseph Ball, and was educated in Good Shepherd Parochial school at Pendleton. He served seven years in the U.S. Navy and afterwards was a fireman on lake vessels at the Buffalo armory and at plants in Niagara Falls and Lockport. He retired several months ago. Mr. Ball was a member of Lockport Camp, 83, United Spanish War Veterans, and was the oldest member of Lockport Navy Ship 110. He was a member of Lockport Aerie, 825. FOE. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Flanders of Spokane, Wash, and Mrs. Charles Wedlake of East Gary, Ind.; a son, John L. Ball, of Rochester; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. J. Harold Moore. 9781 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 2/6/1960 A 72-year-old Lockport woman, Mrs. Lillian Behm, died this morning (Feb. 6, 1960) in Inter- Community Memorial Hospital, Newfane. She was taken there by the Fire Department First Aid Squad Friday afternoon after she was refused admission to Lock port Memorial Hospital because the hospital was filled. The firemen answered a call at 4:10 Friday afternoon when Mrs. Behm experienced difficulty breathing in the home of her daughter. Mrs. WlBwt E&3r, M Akron St. When the woman failed to respond to an inhalator, she was rushed to the Lockport hospital and then to the Newfane hospital. Dr. George H. Barone, chief of the medical staff at Memorial Hospital, explained today that when Mrs. Behm arrived, all rooms were filled. The doctor said that in some emergency cases a bed can be set up in a hallway, but that Mrs. Behm had suffered a heart attack and needed an oxygen tent. State law prohibits hospitals from setting up oxygen tents in corridors, Dr. Barone explained. Buffalo General Hospital was contacted but also was unable to accept Mrs. Behm, Dr. Barone said. The Lockport hospital then made arrangements for her admission at Newfane. Mrs. Behm, the former Lillian Hellert, was the widow of John A. Behm, who died in November 1952. Formerly of 1199 Stone Rd., she had been a Town of Lockport resident for the past 30 years. Mrs. Behm was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. 9785 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 2/8/1947 A Clarence-Center woman was killed about 9 o'clock Friday night when the care in which he was rid- ing collided with another machine at Goodrich and Wolcott Roads, Clarence Center, Erie County. She was Mrs.. Betty Brauer, 21 of Wol- cott Road. The dead woman's hus- band, Donald, 24, with whom she was riding, suffered shock and lac- erations. Cpl. John J. Chambers of the State Police at Clarence said Mr. Brauer's car collided with an auto driver by Wilbur J. Pleas, 24, of Goodrich Road at the slippery intersection. The impact caused Mr. Brauer's machine to swerve 25 feet off the road into a concrete landing in front of the David Bauer Tavern. Both Mr. Brauer and his wife were thrown from the car. Mrs. Brauer was pronounced dead by Dr. David Fisher of Clarence Center. 9791 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 2/9/1933 NEWFANE, Feb. 9-Among outstanding social events was the marriage of Miss Seva Eleanor Bobzien, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Bobzien, Coomer road to Lester Albert Mayer, son of Albert Mayer of Sanborn, uniting two well known families and early Niagara settlers. The ceremony was performed at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, February 4, in the First Baptist church, Newfane village, with the Rev. Artemas P. Goodwin, minister, officiating. Upwards of 250 guests attended. The church auditorium was decorated in profusion with spring flowers. The altar was banked with tall palms, roses, sweetpeas, snapdragons, mignonette and lillies ln pastel shades, arranged ln baskets. The ushers were Edward Mayer, Sanborn, groom's brother and Burdette Bobzien, Coomer road, Newfane, bride's brother. Miss Maisie Flynn, Newfane, presented nuptial music at the organ, playing the "Alpine Love Story." by Petrie and Carrie Jacob Bond's* Love You Truly," which served as the wedding march and musical theme during the entire ceremony, The bride given by her father was gowned in heavy white satin, fashioned with a long full-length skirt forming a bodice effect, and draped on the left side with white satin roses with valley lilies. Her embroidered tulle veil was caught with orange blossoms and folded gracefully, forming a long train. She wore white satin slippers and white gloves and carried a shower bouquet of white bride rosses, touched with pale yellow and delicate pink, tied with white tulle and satin. Miss Neva Eleanor Bobzien of Buffalo, the bride's twin sister, was maid of honor. She was gowned ln a lovely heavy beige crepe. Mrs. Bobzien, the bride's mother, wore a handsome black and white gown of crepe, with a belt of several strings of pearl beads. The bride's sister. Miss Ruth Bobzien of Sherburne, N. Y., also was in a black crepe. Mrs. Lester Bobzien, a sister-in-law, wore an emerald green crepe with puff sleeves of velvet. Howard William Mayer of San born, a cousin, was the best man. The gift of the bride to her twin sister, who is a nurse in the Millard- Fillmore hospital, Buffalo, gold cuff links; to the organist, Miss Maisie Flynn, a purse of gold. Gifts were also presented to attendants during the reception. The best man was presented with a gold pen knife and the ushers were given ties. Born in Somerset July 19. 1859. me daughter of William and Helen Bullem Bowen, she married George H. Cooper May 11. 1881. and resided in Yates her entire married life. Mr. Cooper died May 26. 1943. Mrs. Cooper, who was a member of the Lyndonville Presbvterian Church and the Worthwhile Class of that church, took part in church work until three years ago when she suffered a broken hip. Survivors are two sons, Fred and, George of Lyndonvllle; one daugh-' ter, Mrs, Henry Welch, Upland, Cal : two sisters. Mrs Warren Smith. Bar ker and Mrs. Delia Mudge, Lakewood; nine grandchildren. and 11 great-grandchildren. A grandson, Harry Cooper, was killed in action in Germany in 1944. Services will be held Sunday at 2 o'clock at the Smythe Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Tighe, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, of- flciating. Transit St. died before reaching Lockport Memorial Hospital after he was found in his parked auto in front of 122 Niagara St. about 9 this morning. The Fire Department First Aid Squad was summoned, and Mr. Taylor was taken to the hospital in Ken- nedy Ambulance. He was a bookkeeper for the Lock City Coal Co. Born in Cambria, Dec. 29, 1982, he was the son of the late Fred H. and Emma Baker Taylor, and had lived in Lockport for about 50 years. He was employed by the coal firm for the last 18 years. Mr. Taylor was a member of Emmanuel Methodist Church; Lockport Lodge 73. F&AM; Unity Chapter 798, OE.S.; Amaranth Court 145 and former member of Lockport Kiwanis Club. 9794 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 2/9/1960 Four area residents have left gross estates exceeding a total of $200,000 according to state tax appraisals signed Monday by Surrogate Frank J. Kronenberg. Ellsworth M. Bigalow of the Town of Wilson, who died Aug 22. 1959, left a gross estate of $92,24581. The net estate was $83,676.08 and an exemption reduced the state tax to $1,600.28. Mr. Bigalow provided for several charitable bequests in a win dated June 21, 1955. The residue was left to a son, Alanson C. Bigalow, Wilson, and a daughter F. Leah Bigalow of Washington D. C. Mr. Bigalow left $500 each to the Exley Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, N. Ridge Methodist Episcopal Church, American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross. His estate included $32,000 in stocks and bonds, $24,255 in mortgages notes and cash and $10,000 in insurance. Bonds included $10,591.44 in Group Securities Inc., and $12,000 in U. S. Savings bonds. Beccue, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter K. Beccue of 32 Carlton place, was solemnized Saturday at 4 o'clock in Christ church, the Rev. H. Irvine Lynds performing the ceremony. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a dress of light blue with accessories of a darker shade and matching hat with dotted veil. She wore a shoulder corsage of pink and white sweetpeas and pink roses tied with pink. Miss Helen Raymond was maid of honor, also wearing two tones of blue, poudre and navy, with blue hat and veil.
