He was born June 7, 1898, in Lockport, the son of Fred and Minna Rensank Bower and lived in Lockport all his life. He had been a resident at the Clark Senior Home for three years. For 17 years, he ployed by Simonds Steel Division of Murray Corp., retiring in 1964. While employed there, he was a member of the United Steelworkers of America. Surviving are: a sister, Mrs. Katie Peterson, of Westbourne, Man., Canada; several nieces and nephews. April 14-The marriage of Miss Gladys Maacks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Maacks of Chestnut street, Wilson, to William Beutel was solemnized Saturday evening, April 11 at 7:00 o'clock in the North Ridge Lutheran church, the Rev. John P. Barkow officiating. The marriage vows were exchanged underneath an arch decorated with morning flories and Easter lillies and illuminated with electric lights. Spring plants also formed part of the decorations. The bride, escorted by Richard Beutel, was gowned in white flat crepe and a cap shaped veil with a wreath of orange blossoms and lily of the valley and set with twelve rhinestones. She wore white slip- pers and carried a shower bouquet of white roses, sweet peas and Easter lilies. Mrs. Carl Seigfried, matron of honoor, wore a princess gown of spun gold yellow. The bridesmaids, Miss Belva Donner, wore a similar gown of cactus rose while the Misses margaret and Loretta Goldpenny wore gowns alike of turquoise blue and orchid. Each wore an attractive bandeau set with thirteen rhinestones and car- ried a bouquet of roses contrasting with the color scheme of their dresses. The bridegroom was attended by Carl Seigfried. The ushers were Van Miles and Elmer Donner. Jeanette Schuman, niece of the bridegroom acted as flower girl. she wore a pink georgette frock and carried a basket of sweet peas and snap- dragons. A reception for thirty guests was held at the home of the brides parents. Decorations were white and blue, fifteen being seated at the bride's table which was centered with a huge bridal cake. Tonawanda, was the soene of a beautiful and impressive waddng Saturday morning, April 7, when William Bartholomew. son of Mrs. Anna Bartholomew, 309 : Ontario street, Lockport, took aa his bride, Miss Elisabeth Barbara Gane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dane, of Nash Road. The Rev. Daniel Malloy officiated at a nuptial high mass which was solemnized at 9 o'clock. Easter lilies and bright candles decorated the altars and a profusion of spring flowers in baskets were further decorations of the church with palms being used as a background. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a gown of white satin with an over-jackets of lact, long sleeves, pufied at the shoulders, and buttoning down the front. The lace train started from the back waistline and veil was net, cap effect, and caught across the back with orange blossome. She carried a shower bouquet of spray orchids, gardenias and lilies of the valley, tied with a dotted white silk chiffon ribbon. Miss Mary Polllice, of Lockport, was the maid of honor and she wore a yellow net and taffeta gown, with bet and slippers to match. Her bouquet wag of blue iris, blue sweetpeas and yellow roses tied with a blue satin ribbon. The four bridesmaids were dressed in blue. Miss Anne Gane, sister of the bride, and Miss Prances Di Angelo, of Lockport, were dressed alike in blue net and taffeta dresses with bat and slippers to match. Miss Margaret Tompkins of North Tonawanda, and Miss Mary Gane, sister of the bride, were dressed in blue chiffon voile with hat and slippers to match. All carried large bouquets of yellow snapdragons and freesias tied with yellow satin ribbons. Little Eleanor Lubertl, niece of the bride, was the flower girl, and she wore a long yellow ruffled organdy dress with a yellow ribbon in her hair. She wore white slippers and carried a small bouquet of blue iris, blue sweetpeas and yellow roses, tied with a blue satin ribbon. Thomas Di Angelo, of Lockport, was the best man and the ushers were Jack Lubertl and Liberty Camarre, both of North Tonawanda. Mrs. Peter Gane, the bride's mother, was dressed in navy blue silk crepe and .wore a corsage of sweetpeas, and' Mrs. Anna Bartholomew, the bridegroom's mother, wore black silk crepe and a corsage of sweetpeas. After the ceremony, a wedding dinner and reception was held for the two families at the home of the bride with covers laid for twelve at the bride's table which was centered with a wedding cake arid decorated with white snapdragons. Following a wedding trip, the couple will be at home to friends at 92 West Genesee street, Lockport. The bride's going-away costume was a blue suit With matching accessories. Bowler, 70, of 251 Roby Street, a former truck farmer and state employe, died Saturday (April 13, 1968) at Briody Nursrng Home where he had been a patient since last Dec. 31. Born Jan. 24, 1898, in Lockport, he was a son of Vincent and Ursula Batt Bowler, and has been a lifelong Lockport resident. His wife, Ada Bowler, died in January, 1961. For many years, Mr. and Mrs. Bowler operated a truck farm and delivered his produce in the city from a horse-drawn wagon. Before his retirement seven years ago, he worked several years for the New York State Department of Public Workds as a lift bridge operator. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. LaVerne (Verna) Miller of Lockport; a sister, Mrs. Leona Cunningham of Ken more; two brothers, Kenneth Bowler of Lockport and Arthur Bowler of Gasport; one granddaughter, Sandra Rounds of Lockport; also several nieces and nephews. Barnum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred F. Barnum of Wilson, were united in marriage by the Rev. John F. Leffler. pastor of the church The church was beautifully decorated wiht Easter lillies, palms, snapdragons and other Spring flowers. Lohengrin's Wedding March was played by Miss Julia Stevens. The bride, who was given tn marriage by her uncle. Ernest Donr.tr, wore a gown of white val ray fashioned on princess lines with a train and finger-tip length veil. She wore a lovely cameo necklace, a gift of the groom, and carried a colonial bouquet of white carnations and daisies. The maid of honor. Miss Eloise J Smith, wore a gown of pink val ray and a pink shoulder veil. She carried a mixed colonial bouquet Franklin J. Oldenburg, brother of the bride, was best man and ushers were Frederick Barnum, brother of the groom, and Frederick Oldenburg, brother of the bride. The bride's aunt, Mrs Ernest Donner, wore black trimmed with rose and white and Mrs. Barnum, mother of the groom, wore navy blue trimmed with white. Blackley, 73, of 106 Caledonia St., Lockport, presi dent of the Lockport Fire Commission for several years, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Blackley was pronounced dead by a family physician af- ter suffering a heart attack at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2535 Caledonia St. Mr. Blackley, born Sept. 24, 1895 in Lockport, a son of John and Margaret Noble Blackley, had been a lifelong resident of the city. He retired Aug.. 8, 1960 from the New York State Department of Highways after 27 years of service. At the time of his re- tirement he was head of the sign maintenance department. Near- ly half of his years with the highway department were spent operating snow plows and other heavy equipment in Niagara County. He served on the fire board for 13 years and was elected president in January, 1983, re- tiring from the board Nov. 2, 1966. He also had served on the Lockport Board of Health and as a 1st Ward Democratic chairman. Mr. Blackley attended Lock- port schools and began his working career at Simonds Saw & Steel Co., now Simonds Steel Division, Wallace - Murray Corp. After four years there, he entered the Army and was dis- charged in 1919. He also worked in a garage and an auto parts store for 14 years before joining the high- way department. He was a member of St. Pat rick's R.C. Church and a 50-year member of B. Leo Dolan Post 410, American Legion. Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Margaret O'Hearn; four brothers, Louis Blackley of Kenmore, John and Harold Blackley of Lockport and Robert Blackley of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Tay- lor & Reynodsl Funeral Home, Niagara at N. Transit St., Lock- port. 9974 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 4/17/1967 Archie Dunn, 75, of 508 Blaine St., Geneva, Ohio, formerly of Appleton, died Sunday morning (April 16, 1967) at Geneva Memorial Hospital after a two-year illness. He was born Aug. 19, 1891 in Appleton, the. son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dunn, and had lived in the Geneva area since 1937. Mr. Dunn and his wife, Edna, were partners in a Geneva laimdry for 23 years, retiring in 1959. She died in April, 1966. Surviving are one son, Harold A. Dunn and two grandchildren of Yougnstown, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha McKinstry, Mrs. Beatrice Blank and Mrs. Hazel Tenman, all of Niagara Falls. Her sister, Mrs. James Gill, was her attendant and she wore a navy blue swagger suit with accessories to match. Her bouquet was of briarcllff roses and sweetpeas. Wilson, were pleasantly surprised on Tuesday evening when their children and grandchildren gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hausman to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. 9996 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 4/22/1919 NEWFANB, April 22-The death of William Brado at his home In Newfane last "Saturday removes a figure that has long been familiar to t h i s vicinity. Coming to this country from Germany when he was six years old, he was thrown upon his own resources early In life, and be- gan to shift for 'himself at the age of 12. His home had always been In Niagara County. He was married to Elizabeth Plain in 1863 and at the outbreak of the Civil war he en- listed and saw service from 1861 to 1862. He re-enlisted within three weeks and served till 1886, and was in 27 battles. He was with the third N e w York cavalry. His wife died In January, 1907. His death leaves but three or four veterans of ths Civil War remaining in the township. Five sons and two daughters survive him: William ,T. and Charles of Cambria; Frank. Day McCollum, 88, of the Slayton Settlement Road, died Tuesday (April 21. 1964) at his home after a long Illness. The son of the late Abram and Almyra Sanborn McCollum, he was bom in the Town of Porter Sept. 11. 1875. He operated a farm on the Balmer Road in Youngstown where five generations of the McCollum family had farmed until the TNT plant came into Model City in 1942 to buy up the farm. He subsequently moved to the Slayton Settlement farm where he continued breeding purebred holsteins, a portion of his farming career that took up 45 years. Mr. McCollum married Minnie Austin Dec. 9, 1903. Besides activity in the Co-operative movement, he was a charter member of the Niagara County Farm Bureau, and a member of the Niagara County Extension Service. Surviving besides his widow are a daughter, Mrs. Roy H. Schul of Sanborn; three sons, A Jerald McCollum of Ransomville, Melville C. McCollum of Lockport and Kenneth D. McCollum in Gasport; a brother, I. Lee McCollum of Lockport; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
