Donald L. Truesdell of Barker, NY, and husband of the late Flora Eaton Truesdell, entered into rest on Saturday, September 20, 2014 in Taylor Health Center, Bath, NY. He was born in Canandaigua, NY on July 13, 1920, the son of the late James and Ethel Ludlow Truesdell.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving his country during World War II from 1942-1945. Donald married Flora Eaton on December 5, 1942 and they were married for 67 years until her death on February 6, 2010. He worked for the William B. Eaton Construction Company in Lockport, NY and was a member of the Carpenters Union. Don moved to Bath, NY, three years ago after living in the Barker, NY area for over 70 years. He attended the West Somerset Baptist Church. He was a master carpenter and as one of his many projects he built his own boat which he enjoyed taking out on Lake Ontario. During his retirement years, Don took up the hobby of building nearly 30 large and very beautiful model sailing ships which he gave to family members as well as to the Barker Free Library and the Lockport Presbyterian Home.
Don was the father of Sharon (John) Muchler of Avoca, NY, Richard (Charlotte) Truesdell of San Diego, CA and David (Debra) Truesdell of Acton, MA. He was the brother of the late Marjorie Wythe. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2670 Main St., NEWFANE, NY on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2014 from 10-11 AM, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery, Hartland, NY. Memorials to West Somerset Baptist Church, 1876 Hosmer Road, Appleton, NY 14008 or Taylor Health Center, 7571 Route 54, Bath, NY 14810 would be appreciated by the family.
