Louis C. LaCivita, 96, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Leonora (Oddi) LaCivita.
Louis was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools including the former Trott Vocational High School and graduated from Niagara Falls High School.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army as a Technician 5th Grade Auto Mechanic with the 34th Ordinance Co. In 1946 he married Gladys L. (Branson) LaCivita in Birmingham, England.
Louis was employed as a heavy equipment operator at Hooker Chemical Co., currently known as Occidental Chemical Co. for forty-two years until retiring in the early 1980's. During the 1970's and 1980's he was also employed as the head security guard at the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion and also worked at various painting and remodeling sites.
Louis was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge in Niagara Falls, NY. Louis was an avid bowler and participated in the Occidental Bowling League. Among his accomplishments was winning the doubles championship with his brother, Ernest, in 1959.
Louis and his wife liked to go dancing every Saturday night at the Canadian Legion and both the Elks and Moose Lodges in Niagara Falls, NY.
Most of all Louis will be remembered as a family man who was kind hearted and generous.
In addition to his wife of sixty-nine years, Louis is survived by one daughter, Karen A. (Brian K. ) Bovanizer of Niagara Falls, N.Y. ; two grandsons, Todd M. Bovanizer and Scott D. Bovanizer; three great grandchildren Jordan, Dillon and Collin; one brother Albert (Bernice) LaCivita of Lewiston, NY.; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters ,Edith (late James) Serrio, Celia (late Peter, Sr.) Barto, Anne (late Sabbath) Cheff; and one brother Ernest P. LaCivita.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 5th at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Steward Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. Entombment with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
