Mrs. Lewis,
City Native,
Dies at 81
Mrs. Mabel E.- Lewis, 5623
Buffalo Ave., the member of a
pioneer family in Niagara Falls,
died al home Monday (March
28. 1966) after a short illness.
She, was 81.
She was born in Niagara
Falls, daughter of Carolina
Strieker and Adam Esslie. The
family operated a farm on land
now the site of the Hooker
Chemical Corp. plant in Buffalo
Avenue.
Mrs. Lewis was a charter
member of the Niagara Falls
v\VCA in Niagara Falls and a
Mfe-long member of First Presbyterian
Church and the Circle
1 group of the church.
She was (he widow of William
R. tawis, who died in 1941.
Surviving are two daughters,
Mrs. F r e d e r i c k (Marjorie)
Downing, Erie., Pa., and Irene
Lewis, Niagara Falls; a son,
John L., this city; a brother,
Arthur L. Esslie, Niagara Falls;
six grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.
Services will be held at 11
a.m. Thursday at the Cornell &
Daggett Funeral Chapel. Roy.
John B. Toay, pastor of First
Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakwood
Cemetery.
