NIAGARA FALLS —
Richard L. "Dick" Gibbons, 84, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away Sunday February 24, 2013 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was the son of the late Mack and Pearl (Beatty) Gibbons. Dick was born in Franklin, PA, and moved the Niagara Falls area with his family as a young child. On July 15, 1950, he married Caroline J. (Quigliano) Gibbons in Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls, NY.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from December 11, 1951 until honorable discharge as a Corporal on December 4, 1953. Dick worked as a millwright at the former Stauffer Chemical Company and later at the former Carborundum Corporation, both in Niagara Falls, NY. He later worked as lead mechanic for the Niagara Falls Coach Lines in Niagara Falls, NY, until retiring in 1993. Following his retirement he worked at Garlock's Auto Parts. Dick was always working with his hands and there was nothing he couldn't make or repair, his motto was, "If I can't fix it, it isn't broken!" Dick was a former member of the LaSalle Sportsmans Club and the Moose Lodge, both in Niagara Falls, NY.
In addition his wife of fifty-two years, he is survived by two children, Annette (Herb) Davis of Niagara Falls, NY and Richard W. Gibbons of Cambria, NY; two grandchildren, Kelly Ann Davis (fiance' Peter Brennan) and David H. Davis (Michelle Utberg); one great-grandson, Hunter D. Davis; a sister, Mary (late Bill) Seelbinder of Niagara Falls, NY; a brother, Sam (Marcia) Gibbons of Town of Niagara, NY; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the brother-in-law of Pat (late James "Popeye") Gibbons, and Judy (late Butch) Gibbons; and is also survived by his extended Quigliano family. Dick was predeceased by three sisters and four brothers.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Wednesday, January 27th at a time to be announced. Entombment with military honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. If desired, memorials may be made to St. John de LaSalle Church or Children's Hospital of Buffalo Foundation, 219 Bryant St., Buffalo, NY 14222.
