- September 5, 2013 Joseph R. Penvose Anonymous The Tonawanda News The Tonawanda News Thu Sep 05, 2013, 05:34 PM EDT AMHERST — Joseph R. Penvose, age 74, of Amherst and formerly of the City of Tonawanda, unexpectedly, on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Joseph was the son of the late Benjamin, Jr. and Rita (nee Barbour) Penvose. He was president of his Tonawanda High School Class of 1957 and received his Master of Science from State University of New York College at Buffalo. Joseph taught Physical Education and coached at Tonawanda High School for 36 years. After retiring from the classroom, he finished his career as Athletic Director for the City of Tonawanda. Schools. In 1978, he started as a partner in Philrich Construction Company with his brother-in-law , Larry Bodie. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane D. (nee Rech) Penvose, two children, Thomas C. Penvose and Jan R. (Chung) Penvose-Yi, MD, both of Amherst; three grandchildren, Abigail Josephine, Kathryn Jane and Ethan Joseph Yi; his sister, Esther (Alan) Markert of Virginia; two brothers, Kenneth (Janet) Penvose of Lewiston and Benjamin (Joan) Penvose of Middleport; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janice (Larry) Bodie and Charles (Magda) Rech, both of Tonawanda. Also many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Friends may call on Saturday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts.) in Tonawanda, where funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Jerry McGlone will officiate. A private burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
