NORTH TONAWANDA, July 23
-A local airman, whose parents were
on their way to visit him, was killed
yesterday near Panama City, Fla.,
when an automobile in which he was
riding collided with a freight train.
The dead man is Pfc. James G.
Running, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Peter R. Running, 15 Ford road. Pfc.
Running was stationed at Tyndall Air
Force base, near Panama City.
Officials there said the automobile
hit a train which was halted at the
junction of two state highways. A
sister of the soldier, Mrs. William
Griffenberg, this city, said her par-
ents were on their way south and had
not learned of the fatal accident until
late last night.
. Pfc. Running was a graduate of
North Tonawanda high school. He
was employed at the Bell Aircraft
corporation plant before entering the
service last November. He had been
stationed,at the Florida base since
Christmas.
Besides the parents and sister, he
is survived by another sister, Lynn
Running, and one brother, Peter R.
Running, Jr., now serving with the
Air Force in Mississippi. The funeral
plans have not been completed.
