YOUNGSTOWN-Laurence E.
Stephenson, 83, of 421 Lockport
St., a former chief of the U.S.
border patrol, died today (Feb.
22, 1969) in Mount St. Mary's
Hospital after an illness of
several months.
He was born on July 22, 1895
in the' Town of Porter, and
lived for a short time in Niagara
Falls. He was an avid
sportsman, an Army veteran of
World War I, and was with the
border patrol from 1922 to 1933.
He retired about 10 years ago
as a millwright for the DuPont
Co., Niagara Falls, after working
there 18 years. He was1 a
member of St. John's Episcopal
Church here.
He is survived by his wife,
Dora (Spencer) Stephenson; a
son, Russell Stephenson of this
village; a daughter, Mrs. Francis
(Effie) Werner of North
Tonawanda; six grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Monday at 10 a.m. at the Hardison
Funeral Home in Lewiston,
with the Rev. Canon Richard
B. Townsend, rector of St.
Peter's Episcopal Church in'
Niagara Falls, officiating. Burial
will be in Acacia Park
Cemetery in Pendleton.
Friends may call at the funeral
home today from 7 to 9
p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 5
and 7 to 9 p.m. The family said
contributions to St. John's Episcopal
Memorial Fund would be
acceptable as tribute.
