East Pembroke, April 28.-Hiram
L. Bennett, a lifelong and highly re
spected resident of this town, died at
his home at 11 a. m. yesterday from
heart trouble. He had been in declining
health over a year, but had
been able to be around most of the
time until within a few weeks. He
passed a comfortable night previous
to his death and seemed brighter than
usual in the morning.
Mr. Bennett was a son of the late
Henry and Jane Bennett and was born
at Papermill on October 16, 1843. He
served three years in the Civil War
in the Eighth New York Heavy Artillery,
In Captain E. TV Sherman's company.
Soon after the war he married
Miss Rosanna Lanning, who died a
few years later. On November 25,
1874, he married Miss Mary Barlow,
who died in 1889. On April 2, 1902,
he married Mrs. Sarah Van Horn, who
survives him, with- -two. daughters,
Mrs. R. K. Peard of East Pembroke
and Mrs. William Blair of Batavia;
two sisters. Mrs Emery L. Day of
East Pembroke and Mrs. Elvira Beckwlth
of Batavia, and throe grandchildren,
Leslie and Doris Peard of East
Pembroke and Arthur Blair of Batavia,
He was a man of fine character
and happy disposition, ever interested
in the welfare of the village and many friends
will mourn his death. He
was a member of Batavia Lodge, P.
and A. M.
The funeral will be held from the
family home at 2:30 p. m. on Fridav
and the Interment will be in the- Hillside
cemetery.
