- Joan P. Thompson, 82, of Lockport, NY, passed away on June 5, 2022 in Tampa, FL. Born on December 26, 1939, Joan was the daughter to the late Chester "Chet" and Laura (Schrader) Payne). Joan married John "J.O." on July 31, 1959 in Lockport, NY. Joan worked as a secretary for Lockport Savings Bank for almost 20 years. Joan enjoyed cooking and canning fresh fruits and vegetables grown by J.O. She loved traveling to see her kids and their families in S.C. and F.L.
Joan is survived by her two children Tricia (Thompson) Lukanic, and Christopher J. (Katharina) Thompson, granddaughter Hannah Lukanic; sisters Loretta (Doug) McCanty, Patricia (John) Chambers, brothers Chester "Chub" (Nancy) Payne, Bruce (Sue) Payne, Terry (Kathy) Payne, Jim Payne; brother and sister-in-laws William (Dorothy) Thompson and James (Paula) Thompson, several nieces and nephews and a host of lifelong friends. Joan was predeceased by brother and sister-in-laws, Gene (Evelyn) Payne, Roger (Karen "Tootie") Payne, Dawn Payne, David Thompson and Patricia Thompson.
A graveside memorial service will be at 10:00am June 18 at Hartland Central Cemetery followed by a reception 11:30am – 3:00pm at the Elks Club, 6791 N. Canal Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Speak for Animals @ speakforanimals.com, or American Cancer Society.
