MIDDLEPORT — Willard R. Pritchard, Jr., of Middleport, passed away Monday, February 13, 2012, at his home. Mr. Pritchard was born in Medina, NY on April 26, 1936, son of the late Willard R. and Edna (Tungate) Pritchard.
He had lived in Middleport most of his life and served in the US Navy from 1955 to l959. He served in the Pacific on an ammunition transport and also on one of the cable layer ships. He was an electrician in the Navy. He served in the Army National Guard before the Navy, and then after the Navy he served in the New York State Guard.
He and his wife, Shirley (Waters) Pritchard, were married November 8, 1958 in Medina, NY. He owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Middleport from l966 to l977. After that he worked at the Water Treatment Plant in Middleport and then at Fisher Price in Medina.
Mr. Pritchard was a member of St. Stephen's Church and had been a Village Trustee in Middleport, and also a member of the Middleport Auxiliary Police. Mr. Pritchard enjoyed wookworking as a hobby and he also sold his crafts, and he also enjoyed raising orchids. He enjoyed his family, his children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Bensley and a brother, Walter Pritchard.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Pritchard; six children, Willard (Deborah) Pritchard of S. Carolina, L. Scott (Jerry Ann ) Pritchard of Middleport, Benjamin (Nichole) Pritchard of N. Tonawanda, Amy (Jeff) Strickland of Medina, Tammy Warton of Australia and Ann (Joseph) Blake of N. Tonawanda. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Carol Waters of Middleport and a brother-in-law, Donald Bensley of Medina.
Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 PM and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport. A Vigil Service will be held Friday evening, at 8:30, at the funeral home by members of Holy Trinity Parish. Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 11:00 AM, at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Stephen's Church, Vernon St., Middleport, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J.
