Robert "Bob" L. Horanberg

Robert "Bob" L. Horanberg passed away on October 29, 2012 in Niagara Hospice House. He was born in Johnson Creek on September 23, 1918, the only child of Albert and Ida Horanberg.
He attended Newfane schools and graduated Salutatorian of his class in 1936. Bob played varsity both basketball and baseball. He entered the employ of The Farmers & Mechanics Savings Bank, (now First Niagara) and retired in December 1982 as Senior Vice President and Mortgage Officer. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Port Surgeon's office in Colon, Panama and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in January of 1946. Bob was a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He also completed several appraisal courses at Harvard University, Ohio State University and Swarthmore College. Bob was awarded membership in the Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and was the first one in Niagara County to receive the M.A.I. designation.
Mr. Horanberg served the community in many ways. He was Treasurer of Trinity Lutheran Church over 52 years, Treasurer of the Lockport Chapter of the American Red Cross for 30 years, Secretary of the Lockport Real Estate for 31 years. He was past President of the Rotary Club of Lockport where he was a member for over 53 years. He worked for many years with the various charitable organizations. Mr. Horanberg was interested in all sports. He was an avid bridge player. He obtained an amateur radio license (ham radio) in 1964 but devoted most of his time, after retirement to his computer.
His wife, Mary (Mary Elizabeth Thurston) of over 71 years predeceased him. He leaves one son, Guy (Patricia) of Saugus, CA; two daughters, Susan Gray of Lewiston and Karen (David) Karas of Glendale, AZ; two grandchildren, Caryn Czajka of Rochester, NY and Lyndsay (Robert) Quiggle of Chittenango, NY; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Taylor and Mercedes Czajka of Rochester and Lily Quiggle of Chittenango. Mr Horanberg resided at 193 Irving Street which he had built in 1948.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, October 31st from 3-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 1st at 10 AM in Trinity Lutheran Church, 67 Saxton St., Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery. Donations to the Trinity Lutheran Abinding Memorial Fund, 67 Saxton St., Lockport, NY 14094 would be appreciated.
