- JAMES AUGUST GARDEI IS DEAD AT HIS HOME
James August Gardei, age 35 years, died at his home, 69 FIrst avenue, yesterday morning about 11 o'clock as the result of an operation. Mr. Gardei was a prominent Democrat in the city, having been at one time a member of the Democratic county and city committees. Four years ago Mr. Gardei was secretary of the Board of Civil Service Commissioners. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and of the Red Men. He was an exempt fireman and a member of the Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent Society. He was a charter member of the Sweeney Hose Company.
Mr. Gardei is survied by a wife and three children, a mother, five brothers, Isaac, John, Herman, William of North Tonawanda and Louis of Washington, Pa., also five (sic) sisters, Mrs. Charles Boyer and Mrs. Alfred Martz of this city and Mrs. William Macdonald of Buffalo.
The funeral will be held from the late residence on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Red Men will have charge of the ceremony, and Rev. Duncan Cameron will officiate. Interment will take place at Elmlawn cemetery.
