- Sandra Armitage Obituary
Armitage, Sandra L. (nee Treichler)
February 15, 1940 - April 16, 2024
age 84, of Buffalo, formerly of Sanborn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16 after a long illness. She spent much of her final days with her loving children. She is remembered for her sharp mind and sharper sense of humor, which endeared her to all. Sandy was born in Silver Creek, NY on February 15, 1940. She grew up in Sanborn and graduated from Wilson High School in 1958. She raised her children in Lewiston, balancing homemaking with an interest in photography (which led to her frequently commandeering the bathroom for use as her darkroom) and schlepping her kids to various music concerts and athletic competitions. She also worked as a bookkeeper for various Western NY accounting firms and small businesses. A lifelong animal lover, Sandy volunteered at the SPCA in retirement, spending much of her time with cats who were up for adoption. This naturally led Sandy to adopt some of those cats, who became her constant companions. She also loved to stay in touch with, and visit, her nieces, nephews and cousins, many of whom were thoughtful enough to move to beautiful places (Hawaii, California, Virginia). Sandy is survived by her children, Deborah Maloney Hicks of Getzville, NY and Bruce of Pittsburgh, PA, her granddaughter Lara Maloney of Woodland Park, CO, her brother Wilbur (Bill) Treichler of Wheatfield and her beloved cats, Jack and Lily. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Helen Treichler of Sanborn, her sister Marilyn Truesdell of Buffalo and her grandson Christopher Maloney of Lockport and Conway, SC. No Visitation. A celebration of Sandy's life will be scheduled for later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy's memory may be made to the Chris Maloney Legacy Foundation (www.chrismaloneylegacyfoundation.org).
