Salvatore Dionisio, 83, died today
at Memorial hospital after being
confined there since mid-December
with a recurrence after 64 years of
malaria.
Mr. Dionisio was born in Italy and
contracted malaria, then called "sea
fever," in 1888 while working in
Northern Italy. He recovered and
continued in robust health.
He resided here 48 years and at
the time of his death was a retired
N e w York Central employe.
Confined to the hospital about
two months ago with malaria symptoms,
his case attracted considerable
attention in medical circles and it
is reported that it was found that
malaria parasites had remained in
his system throughout the years.
He was the husband of the late
Louise Dionisio. Surviving are two
daughters, Mrs. Louis DiVito, 1009
Fifteenth street, and Mrs. Leo
Alcuri, nine grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday at 9 a.m. at the residence,
1014 Fifteenth street, and at 9:30
a.m. at St. Joseph's church. Interment
will be in St. Joseph's cemetery
