CITY OF TONAWANDA — James A. Wendel, age 68, of the City of Tonawanda, unexpectedly, Monday, January 16, 2012, at his residence. A lifelong resident of Tonawanda, he was the father of the late Richard J. Wendel; and the son of the late Emerson E. and Henrietta H. (nee Fahldick) Wendel. Jim was a 1963 graduate of Tonawanda High School and was a retired HV/AC Technician. He was a lifelong Ham Radio Operator (N2POA) and a longtime Stock Car Team Crew Chief.
He is survived by two children, Michael (Tammy) Wendel of Wilson, NY and Shari (Steve) Sprague of Arizona; six grandchildren, Nicole and Matthew Wendel, Stephanie, Sarah, Stephen and Samuel Sprague; a brother, Thomas Wendel of Friendship, NY; and his lifelong friends, Tim Nizialck, Bill Myers, Carl Cater and Dick "Chubsy" Thompson; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Monday only from 4-8 PM at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts.) in Tonawanda. Closing prayers by Rev. Edmund Hoener will be at 8 PM Monday evening. A private burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
