James Briganti, 74, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on October 14, 2014. Born in Niagara Falls, New York, on December 5, 1939. He was the son of Joseph and Dolores (Gruppo) Brigante. James was employed by the US Postal Service for 31 years, retiring in 1992. He served in the US Air Force from June 1958 until his honorable discharge in June 1962. In August 1962, he married the former Marie Church in Greenville, Maine.
James was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of Niagara Frontier Country Club since 1991. He enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren, to whom he was known as "Papa".
Along with his wife of 52 years, he is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Robert (Tina) Seager of Wilson, NY; his son, Joseph (Erin) Briganti of Rochester, NY; his grandchildren, Robert and Emma Seager, Olivia and Anna Briganti, and a grandchild James Briganti expected in November. He is also survived by a brother, Neil Briganti of Niagara Falls, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Frank (Michelina) Alongi. He is also survived by his uncle, Neil (Mary) Gruppo; aunt, Mrs. Anthony (Nancy) Travis; aunt, Mrs. Ed (Jean) McGinley and uncle, Salvatore Brigante of New Mexico.
There will be no visitation. James donated his body to the University of Buffalo Medical School for research. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the convenience of the family. As a tribute to James, donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, Inc., 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
