- Julia A. (nee Hyla) Alongi, 72, of Lewiston, NY, passed from this life on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at her residence, following a brief illness. Born on November 27, 1943 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Eleanor Hyla.
Mrs. Alongi attended local schools. Following her marriage to her husband, Louis R. Alongi, she briefly resided in the Town of Niagara and for the past 22 years, in Lewiston. Julia was employed as a bartender for many local restaurants and for the past 20 years for Apple Granny in Lewiston. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish where she attended the St. Leo's worship site. Mrs. Alongi served as a volunteer at the St. Jude Shrine on Ridge Road. Julia loved to cook and entertain guests.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Alongi is survived by nieces and nephews, Bruce (Cynthia) Wojick and their son, Vito, Frank M. Alongi, Dr. Martin (Mary) Alongi, Greg (Karen) Alongi, Joanne Kirkpatrick, Joseph Perri, Vince C. Perri and Julia Perri; her brother-in-law, Vince Perri and several cousins. In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her step-sister, Shelia Perri; one brother and one sister.
There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 16th at 10:00 a.m. which will be celebrated in St. Vincent de Paul Parish at the St. Leo's Worship Site, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Jeffrey Nowak serving as celebrant. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the St. Jude Shrine, 975 Ridge Road, Lewiston, NY 14092.
