NORTH TONAWANDA — Homer J. Mye, Jr., age 91, of North Tonawanda, February 2, 2012. Beloved husband of Irene (nee Wells) Mye for 60 years. He was the son of the late Homer J. and Flora (nee Oldenburg) Mye, Sr. Dear father of John (Candise) Mye, Peter (Kathleen) Mye and Charles (Barbara) Mye. Proud grandfather of Charles, Andrew, Christian, Sarah, Emily and Julia Mye and Courtney (Joseph) Jukic. Great-grandfather of Peter Jukic. Brother of Barbara (William) Badgy and the late Charles Mye.
Homer was an elder and lifelong member of North Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Colgate University in 1941 and upon graduation entered the U.S. Army, where he served in WWII in the Intelligence Unit. After his discharge from the Army, he was a sales representative for Columbus McKinnon. He was the President and Owner of Mye Lumber Co. and the Georgian Bay Lumber Co. He had served as the President of the Boys Club of the Tonawandas and Spruce School PTA. He was honored by the Tonawandas' Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the Year. He was also noted by the Habitat for Humanity for his many contributions. He was a 70-year member of the American Legion, Tonawanda Post #264. He was elected to the Board of Trustees at DeGraff Hospital, Niagara County Community College and NIOGA. He was a member of the Advisory Board of Marine Midland (HSBC) and had been appointed by Governor Rockefeller as Trustee of the West Seneca Developmental Center.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., in North Tonawanda on Saturday from 4-8 PM. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 1 PM from North Presbyterian Church, 168 Payne Ave., in North Tonawanda, the Rev. Stewart Buisch will officiate. Burial will take place privately in White Chapel Memorial Park. If so desired, memorials may be made to North Presbyterian Church.
