- Hey, Char,
It was great hearing from a Lauer almost--sister-in-law! :-)
I checked my McCollum file and I found Thelma's obituary. I'll transcribe it for you.
Thelma J. Schul
Cake judge, decorator for more than 25 years
SANBORN--Thelma J. (McCollum) Schul, 79, of Cambria Road died Friday (July 30, 1993) in Lockport Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Youngstown on July 6,1914, the daughter of Abrahm [Abram] Day and Minnie M. (Austin) McCollum, both now deceased.
For more than 25 years, Mrs. Schul was a professional cake decorator, instructor and judge at many international cake shows.
She is survived by her busband, Roy H. Schul of Sanborn; two sons, William D. [Day] Fedder and Carl E. Schul, both of Sanborn; four daughters, Joanne [or Joan] R. [Ruth] [Fedder] Brewer of Lowell, Ind., Judith K. [Kay] [Fedder] Heppner of North Tonawanda, Jeanne [Jeanne M. Fedder] of Rome, Ga, and Julie Ann Schul-Bliven of Lockport; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephes.
She was the mother of Mary Jan Fedder, and sister of the late A. J. Melville and Kenneth McCollum.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5983 Hoover Road, where services will be conducted at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton.
Note: I also have the obituary on her second husband Roy H. Schul in 1966. I'm certain that was a typo and was meant to be 1996 in that it said he was the widower of Thelm J. McCollum, who died on July 30, 1993.
Note: I don't have information on the date of Thelma's marriage to Patrick Fedder. However their first(?) child William Day Fedder was born Feb. 20, 1930.
I'm copying Mary with this message and when both of you receive it, let me know of your connections to the McCollum family. Yes Mary I'm certain that the Town of Porter families descend from Scotland; however as hard as I tried, we can't find a definite connection. The farthest back we could go is to Joseph McCollum, born February 24, 1785 in either NJ or PA. Probably NJ.
I have Thelma's pedigree in my genealogy database and I'll send it to both of you if you wish.
This is pretty cool, isn't it?? :-)
