COLUMBUS, OH — Joseph J. Anastasi, 95, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at his home in Columbus, OH. Born on September 13, 1917 in North Tonawanda, NY, he was the son of the late Dominic and Angeline Anastasi.
Joseph graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1935 and played semi-pro football in the Buffalo area, before serving in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he worked with his beloved brother, Louie and many of his brothers and nephews for over 40 years in their family owned house painting company in North Tonawanda, NY, which he dearly loved. Abraham Lincoln once said, "A person is about as happy as he wants to be," and Joe was one of the happiest people we've ever known. With an always sunny disposition and positive attitude, he brought joy and happiness to everyone he touched. He was greatly loved by his family, friends and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Dellisante Anastasi and second wife, Leatrice Cirrito Anastasi. He is survived by his sons, Joseph (Linda) Anastasi of Columbus, OH; and Richard (Carole) Anastasi of Kirkland, WA; his daughter, Patricia (late Mark) Blair of Binghamton, NY; six grandchildren, Sarah (Ian) Fisher, Christina (Tom) Sauer, Richard Jay Anastasi, Mary Lucy Anastasi, Joseph Anthony Anastasi and Olivia Marie Anastasi; a brother, Frank (Pauline) Anastasi of North Tonawanda; three sisters, Carmelita (Leon) Bourdage of North Tonawanda, NY; Lucille (Frank) Habuda of Atlanta, GA; and Rose Belczak of Buffalo, NY; brothers-in-law, Frank (Jenny) Darlak of North Tonawanda; and Philip Dellisante of Elmira, NY; sisters-in-law, Josephine Cirrito of Niagara Falls, NY; Lena (Nick) Cacchio and Marie Russell; and many nieces, nephews, family members and friends. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Louis Anastasi, Anthony Anastasi and Theodore Anastasi; and three sisters, Eleanor Schebell, Jenny Darlock and Mary Sekera.
Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 AM Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Niagara Falls, NY.
