Oscar C. (Ockie) Anderson, of
160 Delaware St., Tonawanda, a
one-time football great, died this
morning at Buffalo General Hospital
after a brief illness.
Mr. Anderson, a native of Erie,
Pa., won All-American football
honors at Colgate . University
about 44 years ago, and was one
of the university's most outstanding
quarterbacks. At the 40th anniversary
celebration of the Colgate
University Alumni Corp., in
1948, he received a Maroon Citation,
in recognition of "significant
and invaluable service to the university."
After he was graduated from
Colgate, Mr. Anderson coached
football, basketball and track at
Erie Academy.
He had resided in Tonawanda
for the past 40 years and was
president of H. B. Koenig Inc.,
at 17 Main St., Tonawanda. A
World War I veteran, he was a
member of First Methodist
Church, North Tonawanda; the
Park Country Club, Buffalo; Tonawandas
Post 264, American Legion,
and the Chamber of Commerce
of the Tonawandas.
He is survived by his wife, Mil-
dred K. (nee Koenig) Anderson;
a son, Robert H. Anderson of
Tonawanda and a brother, Gustav
Anderson of Erie.
Arrangements are being made
by the Hilliard Funeral Home.
