William Harold Andrews, 59, of 3006 McKoon Ave.,
former superintendent of the city's building inspection
division, died today (Jan. 27, 1961) at Buffalo General
Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks.
Mr. Andrews retired from
the city post last December
due to ill health.
A native of this city, he was
graduated from Niagara Falls
High School in 1919 and attended
P u r d u e University,
Lafayette, Ind.
He was associated with the
Thomas Andrews and Sons
Building Contractors prior to
joining the city's engineering
staff in 1927. He served as
draftsman and engineer until
1932.
From 1931 until 1933 he
was senior engineer at Old
Fort Niagara during restoration
work there.
Mr. Andrews returned to
city employment in 1939 as a
Civil engineer. He was promoted
to building commissioner
in 1955. The job title
was changed to Superindent
in 1958.
Mr. Andrews was president
of the Civil Service Associa-
tion of City Hall Employes, a
member of the American Society
of Professional Engineers
and was a licensed engineer
and surveyor.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Ethel Andrews; two daughters,
Miss Shiela Andrews,
this city, and Mrs. Don A. McClelland,
College State, Tex.:
two brothers, Capt. Edwin W.
Andrews, of the city's Fire
Department, and Thomas C.
Andrews, this city.
Friends may call after 2
p.m. Saturday at the Gridley
Funeral Home where Rev.
John E. Wlckenden will conduct
the funeral service at 2
p.m. Monday.
