LEWISTON — Anthony J. Ricchio, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Punxsutawney, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Josephine (Buffone) Ricchio.
Anthony came to the Niagara Falls area as a child with his family and attended local schools. During World War II he served as a Corporal in the United States Army from June 5, 1941, until his honorable discharge on December 19, 1945, and was awarded American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal for his service. Anthony began work as a bricklayer working on the Robert Moses Parkway project and also owned a dry cleaners on Pine Avenue in Niagara Falls, NY. He later worked as a driver for Certo Brothers in Niagara Falls, NY, and retired in the late 1970s. On September 21, 1950, he married Christine M. (Colucci) Ricchio in Niagara Falls and together they moved to the Town of Niagara in 1961. Mrs. Ricchio predeceased him March 3, 2007, after 56 years of marriage.
Anthony was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed football and hockey. He also liked bowling, playing cards with his friends and could be regularly found "hanging out" on Pine Avenue in Niagara Falls. He also held great pride in the particular attention he gave to the care of his home and garden.
Mr. Ricchio is survived by three daughters, Rosemary Ricchio (Pierre Bourdy) of Paris, France, Diane M. (William) Bly of Tonawanda, NY, and Toni Ann (Dominic) Pace of the Town of Niagara, NY. He is also survived by one grandson, seven step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Armenia (late John) Laurendi of Niagara Falls, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Albert Ricchio, Adolph (Delores formerly of Niagara Falls, NY) Ricchio; and two sisters, Jessie (late Joseph) Foglia and Elia (Mario of Niagara Falls, NY) Zuccari.
Visitation Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where services will begin Monday at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10:00 AM, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at St. Leo Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls. Entombment with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Dr., Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221.
