NIAGARA FALLS — Eileen T. DiVita, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012, under the care of her family and Niagara Hospice.
She was born in Niagara Falls, NY on September 27, 1924, a daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget (Fitzpatrick) Carmody.
Mrs. DiVita graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1941 and from the St. Mary's School of Nursing. She served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant during World War II.
Mrs. DiVita was a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for over 40 years, before retiring in 1982.
She enjoyed ballroom dancing, knitting, playing bingo and going to the casino. Mrs. DiVita was an avid Notre Dame, Buffalo Sabres and Bills fan.
She was the wife of the late Louis F. DiVita, who died in May of 1980.
Mrs. DiVita is survived by two sons, Michael DiVita of Grand Island and Richard (Annette) DiVita of Niagara Falls, NY; four daughters, Patricia DiVita of Buffalo, Donna (Thomas) Wrobel of Niagara Falls, NY, Mary (Dr. David) Bacha of Akron, OH, and Teresa (William) Fortier of Niagara Falls, NY; 11 grandchildren, Kelly (Scot) Henrich, Samantha (Chris) Shatzel, Stacey (Bryan) Dean, Louis Wrobel, Christine, Michelle and Michael Bacha, Danielle, Eric and Billy Fortier, Ashley Johnston; four great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kendall, Levi and Riley; her care givers, Rose Pilato and Liz LaBelle. She was the mother of the late Louis F. DiVita, Jr.; sister of the late Patrick (Jule) Carmody, Margaret Bohnsack, Rosemary (Dr. John) McMahon.
The family will be present on Wednesday from 3-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERALHOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, at 10:00 AM, at St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, with the Rev. Slawomir Siok officiating. Memorials may be made in her name to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094. Interment with military honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston,
