- Raymond J. Forsyth, November 27, 2018 in Newfane Rehab. Born April 17, 1930 in Buffalo, he attended Riverside High School graduating in 1947.
Drafted into the Army in 1951, serving two years of the Korean War at Fort Richardson in Alaska, honorably discharged 1953. Ray married Janice in 1953 celebrating 50 years of marriage in 2003 He attended Buffalo State Teachers College 1956-59, receiving his Masters in 1963. He started teaching elementary school in Ransomville 1959, retiring 1985.
Purchasing a home in Wilson 1963, he was responsible for starting the yearly Flag Day Ceremony at Stevenson Elementary. Ray received an Americanism Award from the Legion in 1985 and was instrumental in starting Scout Troop 67, becoming Scoutmaster and earning a Wood Badge Award. Joining the Wilson Lions Club 1963 and serving as President 1967, 1976, 1989, 1992, and 2007, serving as Lions Zone Chairman for District 20 N 1969-1970, he held every position but Tail Twister, also being a Melvin Jones Fellow 2004.
Surviving is a son, Stuart Forsyth; grandsons, Ezra and Jerad Forsyth; niece, Lyn Ende; and nephew, Douglas Sherman.
A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, December 6 at Noon in St. Brendan on the Lake, Wilson, followed by Military Honors in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are to the Wilson Lions Club.
