Services will be conducted at
2 p.m. Tuesday in the Fretthold
Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St.,
North Tonawanda, for Karen
M. Arnts, 15, a Niagara-
Wheatfield High School sophomore,
who was killed Friday
night in a two-car collision at
Nash Road and Niagara Falls
Boulevard, about a mile and a
half from her home.
Karen was a passenger in a
car driven by Robert A.
Fleischman, 18, of 7115 Ward
Road, Wheatfield, when their
car was struck broadside when
it allegedly failed to stop for a
red light on Nash Road as it
crossed the boulevard.
A family spokesperson said
Karen had accompanied
Fleischman to the Stop N Go
market at Ruie and Nash Road
to pick up soft drinks and beer
for a group of friends reportedly
working on a car near
his home.
Karen was pronounced dead
on arrival at DeGraff Memorial
Hospital and Fleischman, a
Nlagara^Wheatfield senior, was
treated for chest injuries and
released today, hospital
authorities said.
According to the Niagara
County Sheriff's Department,
investigation into the accident
was continuing today. On Friday
night, deputies said
Fleischman would be charged
with driving while intoxicated
and failing to heed a red signal
light.
Her mother and grandmother
learned of the tragedy while
attending a play at the Errick
Road Elementary School, after
enoying a family dinner to
welcome home her brother
Airman Donald F. Arnts Jr., on
leave from the Air Force in
Bitburg, Germany.
Five persons in the car which
struck the Fleischman vehicle
were all treated and released
from DeGraff. They were Louis
J. Amanti, 32, of 59 Fairgreen,
Drive Amherst; his wife.
Rosemary, 34; their children,
Joseph, 12, and Denis, 11, and a
friend, Michael Jarmuz, 16.
Karen is survived by her
mother, Mary Ruth Arnts of
Wheatfield, and her father,
Donald F. Arnts Sr, of
Springfield, Va.; two brothers,
Donald of Germany, and David
F. Arnts, at home; a sister,
Brenda J. Arnts, at home; her
maternal grandmother, Mrs.
Ruth Gerlach of Wheatfield and
her paternal grandfather Fred
D. Arnts of North Tonawanda.
A lifelong Wheatfield resident,
Karen was a member of
the French Club at the high
school.
Her family has said memorials
may be made to the
Niagara County SPCA or the
Niagara-Wheatfield Student
Council.
The Rev. Frank Wright of
North Presbyterian Church will
officiate at funeral services.
Burial will be in Acacia
Park Cemetery.

the Fretthold Funeral
Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver
N St., at Ward Rd., North
Tonawanda today 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. Services
will be held from the
funeral home Tuesday at
2 p.m., the Rev. Frank
E. Wright will officiate.
Interment Acacia Park
Cemetery. If so desired,
memorials may be made
to the Niagara County
SPCA or to Niagara
Wheatfield Student
Council.
